Im not a happy bunny at all, I had something known as the red ring of death so my 360 is fraked. Not good considering I was planning on getting some games tomorrow as its my b-day and also my son wanted games for christmas :(

honeykid
11-09-09, 06:55 AM
Feeling sorry for n3wt.

I had so many problems with my 360. The last time (after 2 RRoD and a replacement unit which they said was new but was probably reconditioned) they wanted £76 to fix it, I told them to stuff it. I could almost get a new one for that and it'd come with a guarentee. I decided it was cheaper not to bother with a new one and just forego having a games console.

n3wt
11-09-09, 07:09 AM
Cheers HK im gutted mate my son loves playing on the 360 and we have already got him some games for christmas I dont know what we are going to do :nope:

Im gutted about my 360 and very annoyed with Simon Cowell on the X-Factor what a douche bag, Lucie Jones so should of stayed and those idiots should of been kicked off the show.

Tacitus
11-09-09, 07:12 AM
I've heard of people getting relief from RRODs with something called the 'towel fix', however temporary. The X Clamp fix seems to be longer lasting.

I know it looks like I know what I'm talking about here but am just going on the hearsay of a few guys who've had 360s a lot longer than me. Mine's still under warranty, thankfully.

I guess they're worth a try if the only other option is buying a new one. The new Arcades have a motherboard which prevents RRODs, apparently, so if you eventually go down the route of buying a new one I'd go for one of those and just use your existing hard drive (if you've already got a Professional or Elite). :)

n3wt
11-09-09, 07:20 AM
Cheers Tacy mate, I have a Professional edition and my mate on fb said I should try the towel fix, I thought about it as ive got nothing to loose really the warrently has run out. If I get an arcade model can I put my hard drive on it then? I thought it was the console with out a hd and you couldnt put a hard drive on it? if you can then that will be my next option.

Tacitus
11-09-09, 07:49 AM
As far as I know that's what people do (I've got a Pro too) and M$ provide upgrade kits - the 60GB HD - for people with Arcades who want more space. Check when you buy it but I'm 99 and nine ninths percent sure it's as simple as swapping your existing hard drive because the Arcade already has the port to connect one.

EDIT - I know when I bought mine that I priced an Arcade and HD separately but the Pro was better value for someone starting from scratch like me so I went with that.

I just got back from a fun night at my sister's house. I cooked her a birthday meal and got a nice buzz from the wine. I sang phony opera arias and duets to my nephew to make him laugh. "You are a poopyhead" a story of revenge, "let's run off to the woods and neck" a love story and "I must clean the toilet." Then we danced to Hendricks and listened to Tom Waits. An excellent party due to the especially nice buzz I had going.

We noticed recently that there was mold on the dvd cabinet so I pulled out the dvds and the shelf and wiped it away, but today we pulled all the dvds out of the shelves and there is mold everywhere pulled the cabinet out and it is completly ruined! and bugger me we pulled the other one out and its the same but not as bad, theres mold growing all over my dvds and my discworld novels im completely gutted, luckerly the damage caused isnt major and the books are ok and the dvds are also ok some of the papper in the cases look as if they have been wet. I guess some people are just mega-organised. Or weird.

I'm with you on this Christmas time slot thing, though. We had Easter eggs on the shops in February, Halloween stuff at the end of the summer and Christmas gear when the kids were still on their Halloween break. It's probably gotten worse (earlier) during this economic downturn because everyone's desperate to drum up business.

The shop at the bottom of my road had Cadbury's Creme Eggs in before Christmas, last year and, a few years back, I remember going into Sainsbury's on New Year's Day and seeing Easter Eggs on sale. Still, they can't wait to get the decorations down, can they? And I bet the staff have a ritual burning of the Christmas cd every year too.

There's one song that appears on all those Christmas albums which I quite like but my mind is in such a fug right now that I can't remember the name of it.

Mold has always been an on going problem here because of the climate, but after Katrina, it seems to have spawned into some kind of super mold that just laughs at the stuff we use to get rid of it... It keeps bleeding through one wall in my bathroom... so I bought a sledgehammer the other day... :p

Was that so successful that you went out and bought one of those 'woodworm chainsaws'? I've got a few 'blocked drain hand grenades' somewhere. ;D

Talking of damp, I've just nearly been engulfed in a flood! I'm always one for taking sneaky little shortcuts in the car and used one of my regulars which usually shaves off, oh, half a mile from a 15 mile journey.

It's little more than a country track and the river had burst its banks beside the road but I was able to get turned round and take the motorway home.

Apparently half of Fermanagh is under water today after 32 consecutive days of rain so I guess we've escaped with a few minor problems (unless you're the farmers who's fields are now lakes) up here in the civilization of Tyrone. :p

Oh Lord, this cold I have took a turn arsewards (I like this new word and think I shall copyright it!).

I've got children who are smaller than the antibiotics I'm now taking...

Being somewhat of a connoisseur of medication the whole experience has, nonetheless, been eye opening. :p

They gave me some of those kind of antibiotics when I had strep throat... and I asked them what poor horse was going without his meds for me... I couldn't even swallow water at the time but was supposed to swallow those pills... :p Feel better soon...

Right now I'm wondering how long this flu crap lasts... 'tis a pain in the arse... and everywhere else too... grrr...

Aye, these pills are just yer standard penicillin but they're massive. They are working though, but make me feel a bit drunk.

Funnily enough, the doc said I'd be eligible for the first round of swine flu jabs but told him not to bother. I'm gonna turn into Hunter S Thompson at this rate. ;D

Hope you're back on your feet soon. :)

My mother's words are ringing in my ears right now (she's not dead or anything, it's just that she tells me this every time the floods get mentioned :D) in that she has always tried to live in a house on a hill "in case of flooding".

Looking back at it, the first house I can remember living in (when I was 3-ish) was on top of a hill, as was the place where we grew up (until I was 18). As was her parents' house and where she's lived for the past decade or more.

I live kinda half way up and half way down a hill. Rock and roll! ;D

12-04-09, 07:15 AM
The Tattymobile annoys me in weather like this. When the outside temperature drops below 4C it beeps at me, quite why I do not know and I can't turn it off.

Is it warning me that there might be ice in four degrees time? Is it telling me that it's a bit cold? I can answer the second because I've got my bloody heater on, even before it beeps at me. The first one is also redundant because of the great big temperature graphic on the instrument panel.

Anyway, the temperature here over the last few days has been hovering around the 4C mark which means that my car beeps every couple of minutes, when the temperature drops .1 below 4C - then I hit some sunshine and it rises marginally only to drop again a few hundred yards down the road. Then rise. Then fall. Beep!

In the old days I would have pulled the offending fuse out but cars are so electrically complex these days that I'd be doing more harm than good, such as stopping it putting on the air-con when I want to demist the windscreen. Every. Single. Time. :furiousdevil:

If they help you that's all that matters, I suppose. The withdrawals when they're running out is a pain though - I've got a head like a sieve at the best of times and if I forget to take my meds I start wondering why I'm feeling sick and really irritable a few hours later.

I am watching/listening to Wim Wenders' DVD commentary of Rainer Werner Fassbinder's The Merchant of Four Seasons. I've already seen the movie four times, but this is the first time I've heard Wenders' commentary, and it's his fave Fassbinder film. (I certainly think it's the best film Fassbinder made through 1971.) It's really quite touching, but what would you expect from Wenders, doing a commentary about his Doppelganger who was born the same year with a similar doctor father? Wenders chokes up several times during the commentary which only makes me think better of him, if anyone cares.

My baby girl goes to court, she goes to jail, or not? My mother is having surgery, and I am up for a promotion at my current place of employment. I really want to just sleep in.......

That's a lot of crap, and I know you've had problems before with getting a promotion. God Bless You and Yours. :)

Thanks Mark, you are a good friend, even if we have never met. :)

Thinking about you and yours, 7th. :)

I don't think it's fair that the day I decide to begin my Christmas shopping, the bank statement lands with a slap through my letterbox. :(

However, in a quick 'thinking on feet' manoeuvre, I've decided that everyone is now getting a fun-sized Twix, a framed photocopy of the bank statement and an origami wildebeest constructed from the multiple pages of junk adverts that also came in the bank envelope.

I've also remembered where the Christmas tree is! It'll take me half a day and a Sherpa to recover it from the Northwest Loft but at least I know what direction to point the little Nepalese chap. ;)

Ditto. I hope all goes well.

Currently having my morning coffee and smokes, and wondering how many more strings of Xmas lights I must buy in order to short out the entire neighborhood.

Good luck in your endeavor Karibou.

About to get dressed and get some breakfast. I feel like I have been run over by a truck from working 12 hour days.
