I wonder if the rest of the world is infected by Nanny State syndrome as much as here? I woke up this morning to the news on the radio solemnly informing me to beware of the terrible weather in my area - gritters had been on the roads 3 times last night etc etc.

I pulled the curtains expecting at least a foot of snow ... but all I got was a hard frost (and the most glorious sunny morning imaginable). It's winter, fer gawd's sake! I can remember 5 foot snow drifts and still having to get to school!

Is it the cold weather, rain, and snow? Does that make you hurt worse? I've been a lot worse since the start of October. It's no longer just mostly my back, and stomach, but my shoulders, hips, knees, knuckles, and muscles are killing me now, as well. I have to stay doped up all the time, twice as much as before, to be able to function any. Once my ankles go, I'm probably screwed. To bad they couldn't figure my problem out.

On another note, my uncle is in CCU with pneumonia, and congestive heart failure. He is the next to the oldest, of the ten, with my mother being the oldest. My other uncle died of this, just last year.

Also, my dog, which some of you know almost died during the Thanksgiving holiday, hasn't eaten, or drank anything past a smidgen, in over 24 hours. The new vet is calling me in the morning with all their test results. I'll let him know then. Needless to say, I'm worried about what they will say. She was doing so much better, and then, on the day I took her, this past Friday, right after that, she started acting bad again.

Sometimes I think it is but I really can't be sure. The doc says that a bit of arthritis might have set in as well but, to be honest, I'm past caring what the cause is. This last bout of trouble came on because I had the temerity to laugh in the face of God and get up early 2 days on the trot and do some driving. :)

I've had back problems of some sort since I was 17 (well over half my life now, yikes) so am used to a degree of pain. It's just getting wearisome right now, but I guess I'm kinda preaching to the converted because of your situation. :)

It kept getting a little worse, as the years went by. I had morons for doctors. Now it's a lot more than my back.

My uncle is showing a tad improvement, but I don't know much about that yet.

My dog's vet was very pleased with the tests results. All improvement. I let him know that she won't eat, or drink now. If she doesn't in these next two days, she goes back for that. I wouldn't be surprised if it were her feeling so bad over her hip dysplasia, and diabetes, that she isn't feeling like it. My pains make me feel the same way.

I was on morphine for a while a few years ago but the amount I had to take turned me into a breathing corpse, a constipated breathing corpse at that. I've found a happy medium since but there are times, such as now, when nothing save taking me out the back and shooting me will help.

I can really empathise with you about the pain though. I started as well as someone who had an occasionally dodgy back - usually in good enough health but occasionally having to take a week off when things got on top of me. It's amazing how quickly that became a way of life - self medicating with over-the-counter pills and just putting up with things. Looking back on it now I suppose not being able to stand up straight for an hour every morning might have been a sign that things were not as they should be, but my mum and dad both have bad backs (but nothing more than the occasional grumble) so I just figured I'd been dealt a rough hand by The Maker and consoled myself with dashing good looks and killer sense of humour. :D

What pisses me off most is not the pain per se but the fact I'm not able to do nearly as much as I used to. Since last Wednesday it's been a struggle to even get into the car, let alone drive the bloody thing. At least I'm more environmentally friendly than I was. ;)

The pain pisses me off, because it's what stops me. I think the muscle pain may be because of the fact that I am using them to lift myself up all the time now. It may be what is also affecting my shoulders. I dunno. I use to have Vasquez sized arms. Now they are half Vasquez, half fat. :( There was this guy from the next city over, a paraplegic, who taught people how to weight lift the upper half of their body into massive shape. His sure was :p. He was on a local channel/exercise show. I must find that, and let that be my New Year's resolution.

Well, on a brighter note, my dog pigged out tonight, and before that, she was very playful.

Get those eyes checked. Could definitely be that. For me it was driving and movies that gave me headaches -- turns out I'm near-sighted.

And lately I've also needed reading glasses (OLD!) because I was squinting at everything I was reading or crocheting. Ugh.

Right now I am proofreading and watching the 6+ inches of SNOW build up outside. Yoda lives about 40 miles away and they're not getting any of this. We're "north and west" of Pittsburgh -- getting an "all-snow event," as they're calling it on the news.

Yoda's area might get freezing rain later, but we might stay all snow. Fine with me. I prefer fluffy snow to ice!

I am playing with my new toy -- a $99 USB turntable! I'm recording all my vinyl digitally right now! It was so easy to figure out and set up (plug-n-play!), and the software dumps the tracks right into iTunes automatically, using Gracenote to get the album info for me too. Gosh, I haven't been able to play this Traveling Wilburys album for twenty years! (And many more are older still, of course -- thirty or more years.)

And the sound through my computer speakers (with woofer thingy) is amazing. Good thing I took good care of my vinyl back in the day.... :)

The funny part was showing my 15-yr-old daughter how to work a "record player," since she's never touched one in her life and hadn't a clue how to operate the cue arm or anything. Made me feel quite OLD...

... but right now I don't care. This is great!
