Like Slumber Party Massacre II, this movie also has a kind of weird ending that takes place in a mental hospital.
What is it with Juliette Cummins and this kind of movie that she chooses to do?

The Jason in Tommy's visions is kind of cool.
He's like that rabbit figure in Jake Gyllenhaal's visions in Donnie Darko.

Friday the 13th Part V is nothing but an early Donnie Darko.
That redneck woman (with her son) is an early version of that old weird woman in Donnie Darko.

I love this ending.
Tommy closes the door to his room. He's in a hospital gown, with the Jason mask on, and a butcher knife in his hand, ready to kill PAM!

To me, it really doesn't matter that it's not actually Jason. I don't see why everyone complains about it not being Jason.
It's still a man in a hockey mask and he does a very convincing Jason.
In fact, as a kid, when I'd watch this movie, I'd never even really get that it wasn't Jason, 'cause back then, like when I was really young in the '80s and I'd see this movie -- I didn't watch it to focus on the plot or anything really. I didn't really know what was going on. I'd just know it was a slasher killing everyone and I'd watch for those scenes. The "it's not Jason" thing never even really dawned on me until I got older and REALLY watched it for what it was.
So, to hate this movie because it's not actually Jason is stupid. I think it just makes it more unique and fascinating. They did something different. It's what makes this film interesting. It has its own thing -- it's own theme -- which is that someone took the Jason legend and used it to act like Jason.
All this and you complain about Halloween III not being Michael Myers?:D
They let the white boy grow up and appear in two more sequels, but did the black boy?
Nope.
Racist!
It's a black guy in a horror film. It's the horror equivalent to the red shirt wearing man in a Star Trek away team that you've not seen before.
What is it with Juliette Cummins and this kind of movie that she chooses to do?
I guess it's what she's offered.
I don't have this, so I couldn't have done it anyway, but thanks for the commentary, :)

Friday the 13th Part V at least still talks about and deals with Jason and characters from movies in which Jason existed.
Halloween III has NOTHING to do with Michael Myers. It's a totally different kind of thing from this.
I'll give it a 3+, a full point+ higher than what I initially gave it. I'm tempted to give it an extra half a point now that I'm a fan of Juliette Cummins, too, but whatever.
Thanks for commentating with me, Sexy.
What the hell, I'll give it a 3.5.

BTW, Honeykid -- I just had a thought. You were saying it was bad that FRIDAY THE 13TH PART V was basically lying to us and tricking us making us think it was actually Jason going around killing everybody and then it wasn't ----
This isn't bad, though. Actually, it's keeping in spirit with the first FRIDAY film. That movie was a mystery where you didn't know that the killer was the mother until the end. Same thing with 5 -- although it's not really a mystery, it still has the same kind of surprise element at the end -- this time with the father of Joey.
FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2 is sort of the same deal -- imagine seeing that when it came out in 1981. Although we're led to believe that Jason is the killer in it, and he is, it still might possibly not be. There COULD have been a twist at the end where the murderer turned out to be someone who isn't Jason. Jason was not the established villain of the series, yet, really. Part two is simply where he began. Part three establishes him -- hence the hockey mask first appears in part three.
Sexy Celebrity
06-14-14, 07:47 PM
FRIDAY 5 is actually cool because it goes back to the roots of the series by doing something different and having a surprise ending. It's A NEW BEGINNING -- it was like a horror reboot at the time -- FINAL CHAPTER was supposed to be the last one, the death of Jason. 5 was still honoring all that and starting the franchise again in a similar, but different direction.
5 is more awesome than people think it is, but everyone just goes gaga over Jason. Hence the overrated JASON LIVES after 5.

It's definitely not anything great... but the ending was better. The lead girl in that movie was tied up to an altar for a sacrifice. People were dressed like druids. Paul Rudd came in and saved her. They ran and got out of there. Paul Rudd used some rune stones on Michael and made him stop chasing him. But then it got confusing. Dr. Loomis suddenly had a mark on his arm, like the mark on Michael's arm. I don't know where it was going to lead, but Michael was leaving the hospital dressed as The Man in Black. It almost seems like Dr. Loomis is now cursed to become like Michael, which is stupid.

I can see why the Angry Video Game Nerd thought the released film was better. A lot of times when something gets changed, the original version is automatically deemed BETTER because "the evil studio changed it and ruined it." But maybe they changed it because it really did suck.
But I recently watched H6, the released version, and I didn't like the ending. Although... it's kinda better seeing Paul Rudd hitting Michael with the lead pipe. Maybe it is better, but there's some stuff that's really stupid, like the crazy lady in the hallway Paul Rudd runs into.

The use of light and shadow in this scene is great, too.
Originally, Halloween 5 was written to include Jamie as Michael's sidekick killer, apparently. I'm not sure how that would have looked, though -- Jamie trotting around as a little kid killer working with Michael.
It's weird that 4 ended with her killing her mom and then 5 does nothing with it, acts like it never happened. Kind of like Friday the 13th 5 and 6.

I don't believe you. Show me.
When Loomis is talking to a man about Michael escaping -- "How did Michael drive out of here???" "Maybe someone gave him lessons!"
Apparently, according to the writer of Halloween 6, that's Wynn, the guy who is The Man in Black in Halloween 6. Remember how in that movie, the man in black was a visitor/old friend of Loomis' at Smith's Grove?

In order to continue the franchise with Jamie, I personally think it was a good idea that Jamie returned to normal instead of becoming evil herself. She was just momentarily possessed by evil.
Silly, but whatever. Maybe she can become evil, but she has a stronger good force within her? Kinda makes it scarier. What if she just suddenly turns evil at random moments?

I've heard that female apes, when they're having sex, like to make loud noises so the other females can hear them having sex. To show off that they're getting some. It signals that that particular female ape is good at getting the males and has a higher status than the other females. Maybe it would be the same kind of thing here.

Another modern horror trope. There's a whole thing about horror movies being a reaction to the middle classes fleeing to the suburbs in order to protect their children and escape the realities of poverty.

I think one of the reasons this movie inspired me so much as a kid is it does feel like a movie anyone can make (anyone with passion) - I mean, it's very minimalistic, there's pretty much no blood or special effects. But it still works so well.
