I'll get it someday. I had it on DVD years ago.
Actually, I do have a box set of the trilogy on VHS, but the VCR's broken.
Sean - if Lucas knew what he was going to do for the prequels, why didn't he have the stormtroopers all have the same voice in the original trilogy? He changed it later on for the special editions.

Swan!! You already know the answer to this. There's no free will, thus, George Lucas just didn't think about doing it at the time. It came to him later.

I think some of the best quotes are in The Empire Strike Back.
Leia: "Will someone get this big walking carpet out of my way?"
Obi-Wan: "That boy is our last hope."
Yoda: "No. There is another."

It's not just about our enjoyment. Yes, we are gonna die. George Lucas is gonna die.
George Lucas is alive. Let the man change things about his movies. The original versions will survive and be a part of history. The new versions will be, as well. This is no different than any great composer simply putting out changes and fixes for his music.
In the future, other generations will decide which version they like best. The future may prefer the Special Editions.

I just wish he would release the unaltered versions already! Do that and then he can change them all he wants. I just want to own the unaltered versions.
Sexy you better not be getting reps for that jibberish your spouting :D
Of course, I suppose it's Disney's duty to release the unaltered versions now.

i think the genius of Star Wars as it was originally had to do with the combined efforts of a lot of talented people
not to take away from Lucas the writer/director
The tinkering might've come out better had Lucas surrounded himself with the same group of talent that helped collaborate with him bring Star Wars (1977) about. Ya know, an environment where sharp choices and decisions prevail rather than one person just changing whatever they feel like

Lucas owns Star Wars, though.
Or, at least, he did until Disney bought it. I dunno.
But it's still his baby. The names of the other people who worked on Star Wars won't be remembered and become a household name, but George Lucas always will.
I think they should remain unaltered but I really am not too bothered by the new versions. I can see past it pretty easily.

i do think it's kinda sad that the guy who made probably the most loved movie ever gets nitpicked like crazy

You need to see it then we can do a commentary on it. I did one with SC, but he wasn't particularly enamoured with it if I recall correctly.
Do you think I'd like it?

This is the cover for Chopper that we have over here.

I think so. But I would recommend watching it properly first. Death Race 2000 is the kind of silly thing you could watch in a commentary for the first time (as with most silly film, IMO) but Chopper deserves your attention.

I like this kill but I'm not really sure that the tone of it fits with the rest of the film.

I definitely want to see Death Race 2000 though. Need to see more Corman.

Cool. I seemed to remember thinking you didn't enjoy it too much. Not that you hated it or anything, just that it was a little meh for you.
This dude turns out being totally messed up.

Well, he agreed to pay people to kill his family so, yeah, he's messed up.
I really like the ending of this for some reason. It's not profound but it doesn't need to be. It's just like, in your face and kickass.

It was a little meh, but not in the "so meh I hate it" levels. I think about it fondly and I still have the DVD, so something worked.

I thought of the Mendes Brothers a couple of times while watching this for the first time.

I like the ending too. She ends up being as bad as them, if not worse and then you have the distorted truth. Or you would have if the copper had survived, though I'm sure forensics would have a field day trying to put that all together.

That's nice to hear. :) Maybe when Swan's seen it, if he likes it which I think he will, we could do another one.
Well, I like this film. It's a solid 3 atm and something I think could score higher in viewings to come.
Thanks for the commentary, Swan. I enjoyed it.
I really like this movie. I give it a 3.5-.

Yes indeed, this is one of the very best comic book films ever made.
Christopher Nolan gets a lot of crap among film buffs, it's kind of sad.

Love how the bus clearly doesn't hit him. Bad stunt work!!
It just goes to show that the Joker is a master manipulator, when he could convince ALL THOSE GUYS that they would stay alive while the others would die.

Rises was great the first time I saw it, but really loses luster on repeat watches, whereas TDK doesn't.

People generally seem blinded just because it's Nolan and it's a Batman film.
If you really look at it, there is too much wrong with Rises though it has its moments.
The third one doesn't have interesting enough villains. Bane really lacks the punch (ironically :p) that Joker had.

Some people loved Bane, but I'm with Swan, he wasn't that great.
The first one doesn't have overly interesting villains either, but it works because that's an origins story. After that one, you need interesting villains.

I see what you mean, but it was nice to see Batman get some competition, physically.
And tbh, Bane was one of the best things about the third. I loved when he was on screen though Joker is of course 1000 miles better. Still a great job by Hardy

Yeah, I always thought Caine and Nolan hated each other.
They should have done the Riddler in the third one.

Eric Roberts. The actor who has been in most quality-diverse film. That man has seriously done some low-budget stinkers, and yet he's here in TDK for example, and in last years Inherent Vice.
The thing is, Batman is supposed to be a detective, but I don't feel like he was ever challenged intellectually. He was challenged physically in the first one, morally in the second one, then physically again in the third one. They could have done the Riddler in the third one and have him challenged intellectually.

Actually, I think Dark Knight Rises might hold the record for most Oscar winners in a film.

Jep, and that was even their plan at first. But then they changed it to Bane and all that 8 years later or whatever...
