I guess, but that's how it is with every movie with a central character, really.
Exactly. It's why I never really get tense about these things. Probably why Hitchcock is so boring, too. He's another one who drags it out to an interminable level. Of course, I usually think the score is too bombastic in his films, too.

If this was a 2 hour film I'd think it was too long, but that it's a 2 hour film after a previous 2 hours? Editing, Quentin. It's called editing. :D
Personally I wouldn't edit too much, especially not in vol. 2. Every line of dialogue is perfection. Scenes are great character development and explanation for further plot points.
Anyways, back to the film! Soon comes Pai Mei! aka Gordon Liu in his second role in the Kill Bill series.

Tarantino can't even write a commentary as great as this. This was a lot of fun, and like me and Swan with Death Proof, we managed to jump in and out of the movie discussing all sorts of stuff, but always finding our way back. I enjoyed this a lot, and the movie worked surprisingly well even while doing a commentary. I was afraid I would miss much of the dialogue and stuff like that.

I did have this more like a 3 before, maybe a little higher. But there's just a lot of stuff in this I don't care for too much and others which go on too long. Plus, and I don't know if it was just tonight, but I really noticed the soundtrack on this viewing, which was crap for the most part. ****ing westerns. :D
Glad you enjoyed it, MM. :) Hope I wasn't too much of a downer for you. :D
Oh, if I have any criticism, it's that this film is a bit disjointed. I forgot to mention that. But it's not a big problem, for me, as I admire the craft and fun of the film nonetheless.

Some Westerns are ****ing great. Like Django Unchained. I like all of the Tarantino films I've seen except Kill Bill. Granted, it's been ages since I last watched them, but I doubt a rewatch would improve my opinion.

They might've back then, but tbh, over here at least, no one cared about this stuff until the late 80's/90's. Basically my generation grew up watching videos and I think that kickstarted the celebrity culture. I don't think there was even a national movie magazine in the UK until the very end of the 80's or start of the 90's. Apart from Sight & Sound, of course, but pretty much no one outside of those with a big interest in film or London would've known about that.
Difficult as it is to believe, there wasn't a celebrity culture anything like the one we see now.

What TV shows did they come from? I know SMG is from Buffy.
JLH was in Party Of Five (as was Neve Campbell, I think. Another battle between the two films) while I think the others were just starting out in their careers and had done various tv work. FPJ's dad was famous, too.
For a horror film their intellectual level is pretty decent.

Yep. I'm only watching this movie because it's you two and a commentary. :D
Well I'll take that as a compliment. :D
But it works. I can kind of see teenagers being this dumb.

Things didn't work out for Helen.
I expected an Enter sign.
So the movie would end quicker.

Hi, Bar.
I used to have this, which was just a stupid DVD that compiled a bunch of kill scenes from various slashers. Including a kill from this film.

They're at the fishing harbor place thingy, Gatsby.

OK, tell me when Ray turns up again. I'll pause till then.
Pause at first shot of Sugar Ray.

Wow, this movie has a lot of cover songs in it.
honeykid

I like this song. In fact, I like it so much I'm not sure which version I prefer. That or the original.
This movie is really asking me to suspend my disbelief with him being a fisherman. :D

Why do they always run straight ahead?
Why do they always run straight ahead?
So the screenwriter doesn't have to think too much. :D
Why do they always run straight ahead?
Because they're straightforwardly dumb.
honeykid
05-22-15, 09:09 PM
It was rhetorical, but yes, you're both right. :D
I don't know if I should cringe or laugh at this hospital scene.

Because it's a Kevin Williamson script. Pop culture references ahoy.
