I was wondering... Do we have a thread specifically for photographing?

christine
01-28-15, 10:51 AM
I thought we had one MM, but can't find it on a search for 'photograph' or 'photography'. There's a couple that people have started for their own photos but not a general one as far as I can see.

There's the MoFo Art Gallery (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=9230&page=52), that might be what you're looking for :)

Wow Matt, how are you getting around so much?

I used to love traveling but I've suddenly become afraid to fly.

I have never been afraid of the flying, even when the turbulence hits. It's probably the second best way to go (besides dying in your sleep), and it's kinda exciting. I hate waiting, being searched, etc., but it is what it is. Or as I say, "Traveling is great except the traveling part."

Great photos Matt :)
Did you travel around the UK or just stay in London?

Besides London, I did see friends in Chelmsford and Romford. My friend is good friends with Roger Waters' lead guitar player, and we all met on a forum just like this many years ago before a concert in Toronto (has there been any meetups from here?)

I also had a friend and her mom drop me off after seeing the countryside of Essex (in the dark) and in the "American" drivers' seat which was "wicked." I asked two people where the station was, got two different responses (yankee treatment) and it was midnight, so I had to walk to London, haha. I was so lost, and as it started raining I thought to get a cab.

"Eighty quid, mate"

"Please, I only have 40"

"I can't."

I even said, "Could you just drop me halfway for 40." -- I ended up settling for 60 pounds to get back to my hostel!

That's the great thing with traveling. I can laugh at even the not-so-great times.

[quote=cricket;1246933]Wow Matt, how are you getting around so much?

Being a musician and writer, I can work wherever or whenever I'm at. My first book was on traveling, I even published a photography book on Amazon.

There's artwalks everywhere, place to sell books, plays, CDs, playing gigs. On my last trip for example, I had people at the hostel (or who worked at a hostel) asked to buy some stuff. I do book signings in Flint as well, and other events, Institute of Arts, etc, etc.

https://scontent-b-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/v/l/t1.0-9/1525449_10152087887840743_333999289_n.jpg?oh=445f2dbc9c2abbfae5e88ee7e4321810&oe=556C2E31

I've busked as well. I also live like a pauper, I still wear the same clothes from 10 years ago. The only other things I spend my money on are concerts, which is worth more than any amount of money.

Woke up this morning to the radio telling me that there'd been 6 inches of snow overnight and that lorries were getting stuck on the hill outside the village (if you can see a building off in the distance in the picture, that's where the village is) with a concertina effect blocking the main Belfast/Enniskillen road with mile long tailbacks.

Don't need to leave the house, fortunately. ;)

I've had about 3 trees down over the winter but fortunately they've fallen into the fields and not onto the house. One fell on my phone line last summer but that wasn't due to the storms - Ivy had killed it and the thing had probably been dead for 20 years before finally toppling over.

Italy and Germany were together in WWII, and South American took them. A lot of Jews who had money got the hell out of Germany in the late 30's as well.

No, most Italians and Germans went to South America at the same time they went to the US, in the 19th century and early 20th century. Immigration to the New World from Europe happened to ALL of the Americas, not only the English speaking countries.

There are quite a few white people in South America, overall the total white population in Latin America is not much smaller than the US's though most of them have darker eyes and hair because the proportion of people with dark eyes/hair is higher in southern Europe, where most South American whites are descendant from. However even in Portugal there are quite a few fair haired people and many light eyed ones. I am particularly of German, Portuguese and Italian descent. Like many others from my state, the population in my state is 11 million, 80% white but some with darker skin and some blacks too.

That's a typical highschool class from my region:

http://www.univates.br/naestrada/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Pouso-Novo2.jpg

Brazil has more people of Italian descent than the US: "Today, over 17 million Americans claim Italian ancestry, third only to Brazil and Argentina, which have 31 million and 24 million people of Italian descent, respectively." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_American

There are some 5 million people of German descent in Brazil as well as 1 million of Japanese descent, being the largest Japanese community outside of Japan (not much given that very few Japanese emigrated).

While Americans associate Italians and Spanish being generally dark it's also true that there are many pale ones there. Northern Italians in fact have the same skin color on average as White Americans and Germans. In Brazil, Italians are associated with being pale skinned because most Brazilian whites are Italian such as my grandmother.

I went to a Brazilian party in the US and half of the people there were Brazilian, I could tell just by their "style", it's true that most Brazilians living in the US are darker but that's because migration to the US from Brazil happens usually in the central and northern Brazilian states whose population is darker than in Southern Brazil, which is the region I came from.

In Rio de Janeiro, for instance, people are much darker on average than in the South and many central states, this is a high school class from Rio, compare to the one I posted before:

Northern Italians are lighter because of the climate, sun, etc.. From friends who visit Italy say that even the culture is much different, that the southern part is more conservative, while the northern part is more liberal.

And to an earlier thread, immigration was abundant before World War II, but countries like Brazil and Argentina allowed an influx of immigrants leaving persecution or prosecution as well. My Brazilian friend said that there was a lot of money to be made (legal and not) for the immigrants.

The women (and us) had a lot more stuff to carry as you can see by our picnic area... We didn't even use tents! We didn't want to bring attention, and it wouldn't be very backpacker friendly to have my friend in a tent while the rest of us were exposed.

Northern Italians are lighter because of the climate, sun, etc.

Also I think there were migrations from the middle east into Italy as Southern Italy was under arab control in the middle ages, same applies to Spain.

And to an earlier thread, immigration was abundant before World War II, but countries like Brazil and Argentina allowed an influx of immigrants leaving persecution or prosecution as well. My Brazilian friend said that there was a lot of money to be made (legal and not) for the immigrants.

Still the overall demographic impact of that was very limited. Among my family, of the families of my four grandfathers and grandmothers, everybody came in the 19th century in South America. I have, however, one of my grandmother's sister married an Italian who came to Brazil in 1950. There was some migration but most was earlier than 1945.

My parents are not musicians but they both like classical music, especially my father. I study music since I'm 7, but I'm exposed to it since I was born. Same with both my sisters, though they are not following musical careers.

Yes... my hair is still blonde.. its a dark blonde near the roots and lighter as it goes outward... there is a bit of gray underneath but with the blonde it seems to appear more as gold thread in my hair which is nice. Most think I look as if I am in my mid to late 30's, which makes me laugh.
