I've never been but it's supposed to be one of the most beautiful towns in England. I'm sure my friend would love me to visit but possibly her husband won't be so keen... ;)

Thanks.

I really enjoyed my stay in Whitby, and had the "Dracula experience" ,it was so scary, but come to think of it,that was quite interesting! It's really a beautiful place. If that reminded you to give them a ring, this might encourage you to give them a visit.lol.
Great pictures Jacquie, you are very cute :yup:

I love Whitby :yup: my Mother and Brother were born there, I still have relatives there :yup:

Oh. My. God. http://smilies.vidahost.com/cwm/cwm/eek7.gif

Does this mean you can leave us now and just pollute YouTube instead? And I have to admit, pretty much exactly as I pictured.

Well he does know what plot means, which is more than I can say for a lot of the students I teach in Stixville, Iowa.

And he has basic editing skills.

I love this thread. It personalises the fellow MOFO.

So, Meatwadsprite, have we a new Django from the sounds of things? He seems far too small and likeable for such labels.

And Mr Toose, Awesome photos of the Universal backlot, I would LOVE to stay in Bates Motel...however if they are sold out the giant teapot in Whoville will certainly suffice.

Hmmm, considering i have been away since the beginning of the year, and it is now approaching the end, I thought the best way to just cover what i've been up to is via a shamelessly self deprocating/praising selection of photograms. So it basically what happened was *Takes deep breath*...

But isn't [the restaurant in Heat] the same cafe from When Harry Met Sally?

No. Not even close. Well, they are both restaurants, I'll give you that, and in both movie scenes the kitchens are visible in the backgrounds. But Michael Mann's Heat was filmed in Los Angeles, of course. That scene where DeNiro and Pacino face off over a cup of coffee was filmed at the Kate Mantilini Diner, which is on Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills.

And you may remember that When Harry Met Sally... takes place mostly in New York City. The famous fake orgasm scene was filmed at Katz's Delicatessen on Manhattan's Lower East Side.

Brilliant stuff HP. Before i die i will make sure to visit both and orgasm all over the place.

I bet NO ONE has ever thought to recreate the Meg Ryan orgasm in Katz's Delicatessen. The staff are gonna find me a RIOT!

In honor of the recent conversation going on in this thread (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=15021), I'm depositing some pics of some of my caving trips, which may or may not interest you. But it does me. So, nyah.

That's me (on the right) and one of my caving buds, Spen, after one of our initial trips to Wells Cave Preserve (http://www.caves.org/preserves/wells/wells.html), (in central Kentucky)- a wild cave owned by the National Speleological Society (http://caves.org/) as a scientific and recreational nature preserve. We've been spending much of the last 4 years of our caving down there, which is an 11.5+ mile, three-level system and the 58th-longest in the USA. It has 4 entrances and we have been spending the last year in search of the River Entrance (which requires wetsuits).

http://www.movieforums.com/community/userimages/2995847998a33a8cf9.jpg

Going OUT of a precarious, 8-foot-long crawlway in Wells Cave at the top of a 20-foot, 12-inch-wide climb (you come in head-first). My feet are at the top of the narrow crack, which is just around the bend (and the ceiling even lowers). You have to wiggle your way to your belly to orient yourself feet-first so you can wedge yourself down the drop. This area is a major junction to the third (highest and dustiest) level of the cave, which was part of the ancient stream passage (note the "scalloped" ceiling at my nose, which indicates water having moved through in the history of the passage).
http://www.movieforums.com/community/userimages/2995847998a33bdc54.jpg

My 115-pound buddy, Dave, checking out areas in Wells that ONLY he can check. In caving, it is acceptable to remove one's helmet for only a short distance to check out a crawlway too tight to negotiate with one on. Sometimes you have to disrobe to get through some spots. I am holding his helmet while he checked the lead. And, luckily, for all the cave's inhabitants, Dave IS fully clothed.
http://www.movieforums.com/community/userimages/2995847998a33c8c81.jpg

Spen negotiating a low waterfall passage in Wells in the low level. Yeah...you have to go through it.
http://www.movieforums.com/community/userimages/2995847998a73a4e4e.jpg

In a tributary passage leading to the main river passage in the lowest level of Wells Cave. Note the smoothed-out ceiling: the cave drains a whole valley of runoff rainwater. During what's called valley tides, this whole portion of the cave is submerged.
http://www.movieforums.com/community/userimages/2995847998a73b05bb.jpg

Damian, another caving buddy, on a trip to a small central Kentucky cave that was only 300 yards long and wet, wet, wet. That is as big as the cave got.
http://www.movieforums.com/community/userimages/2995847998a73cedff.jpg

A small colony of the federally-endangered Indiana bats in Wells Cave. Bats are splendid.
http://www.movieforums.com/community/userimages/2995847998a8e25f50.jpg

If any MoFo's are ever in the area and wanna go, give me a yell!

Tatanka, i honestly could not think of anything more terrifying. Fascinating, but i don't think i would be able to handle the claustrophobia. How the hell do you not freak out squeezing between parts of the planet where clearly humans are not meant to fit?

I used to cave! Small cave system in Southern Arizona called...hmmmm, Agua Caliente, maybe? Myself and two caving buddies used to scoot around in there quite a bit. Only had one experience where we thought one of us was stuck in a passage. We went less after that.

Thanks, blibb. Most people usually surprise themselves once they get in a cave and begin moving around in it. When you see what you can do underground and begin to be comfortable with your body dimensions, you can do a whole lot. I take a lot a novice cavers on first-time trips and this is usually the case. It is natural to be apprehensive though. Once you know your limits, you just don't go beyond them when you're underground.

I'm like a bean pole over here, I never get stuck anywhere. ;) It was my friend Dan in high school. Dan was a stocky guy, played on the football team etc, but he loved to hang out with my group of friends at the time, and loved the caves. It was some crawlspace and he got angled funny and got his shoulders stuck somehow. We eventually got his arm to pop up and out and Chuck and I dragged him out. He wouldn't go after that. I probably still would. It was DAMN scary, though.

Oh, the cave system was Agua Caliente de Huapoca, btw.

Ha, I found this picture, which isn't of me or any of my friends, but I used to sit right there on that little overhang and get ready to head into the cave, so this pic slammed a bunch of nostalgia right into my face.

Well i said a while back i would provide photos of a very bizarre evening out, so here they are.

When: Valentines Day 2008
Where: The Vaults under London
What?: An Evening of Loss and Sadness featuring mutated toys, dead flowers, The Onion Room and coffins. Supremely strange.

These are some of my friends photos, thought id share as it was a lot of fun and recommend one of these events to anyone wanting a bit of a different night out...

I'm still looking for the photo of my mom in boy's clothes and my brother in a dress (seriously).

That photo would have been from 1910-1911. I always assumed that was a form of night clothes, but that was a professionally-taken photo. I cropped the elaborate matte job out of the image.

Yes I think babies, boys and girls, wore dresses in those days; perhaps a sign of wealth, I'm sure there is a name for the garb, but I forget it right now. Also, I think babies wore rings on their fingers when they were old enough--could be wrong but I thought I read it somewhere.
Now back to them there crotchless panties Blib...

Boys and girls did wear dresses back then... which made it hard to tell who was the boy and who was the girl in a lot of the old pictures... :)

Arent those dresses worn when a child is baptized? Im not that informed on religion, but ive seen lots of pictures of dutch boys in dresses (i dont know the english word for it, in dutch it is called a 'doopkleed')

r3port3r66
02-28-08, 06:55 PM
Ah yes! Now I see. The cute little one is wearing a very finely made dress of lace, which by the way wasn't the cheap kind you find in Chinatown today, it was very expensive in those days--maybe even imported depending on where you're from. Also notice Marc's father is wearing a necklace gold or silver I'll presume--both only afforded by the wealthy. Can you imagine letting a child that age wear a necklace nowadays? And photography, ha! Another sign of being in the upper class.

mark f
02-28-08, 07:43 PM
My dad's dad was a prison guard in Kansas (!), and his mom was a housewife/mom. He had three sisters. I'm not sure how they could be upper class. Although my dad did graduate from high school and go to college for a bit, he quit in the twenties to help support the family.

r3port3r66
02-28-08, 07:48 PM
oh. Well, maybe this stuff was handed down by your grandparents...? Off topic: Where are you from?

mark f
02-28-08, 07:59 PM
You may not believe this, but I'm from Compton (and my mom was born in Watts - it says so on her birth certificate), so that means I'm a Californian. My daughter is a fifth generation Californian on my side. My dad moved with his family from Kansas to California for high school, and that's where he met my mom at Jordan High School in Los Angeles. OK, stalkers, that's enough for now.

Ok, I'm COMPLETELY WRONG Marc! Sorry read this:
From this site: http://www.spinningtheweb.org.uk/m_display.php?irn=85&sub=clothing&theme=clothing&crumb=Childrens+wear

Babies 1890 - 1940
The major revolution in babies wear in this period was the introduction of terry towelling for nappies and the first pairs of rubber pants. Babies were no longer swaddled ('long clothes' were worn for the first few months of life) but dressed in smock shaped 'shortening' dresses which reached only to the baby's ankle instead of trailing. These dresses, in white or cream cotton fabrics, had small yokes and long sleeves and were trimmed at the hem with embroidery or hand made lace. The 'New American Shape' had no bodice and the yoke ended at the armholes. Raglan sleeves were used for dresses and nightgowns. Babies wore flannel or cambric cloaks with hoods and decorative bibs with popular slogans or characters of the day. The invention of iron-on embroidery transfers in the 1890s enabled busy mothers to trim and decorate their babies' outfits cheaply. Romper suits first appeared around 1919 at the end of the Great War. During the 1920s the pram 'took over in status from the length of the carrying shawl'. Matching bonnets and matinee jackets became popular as only the top half of the baby could be seen in the pram. About this time the convention of pink for a girl and blue for a boy appeared.

But I'm still gonna look into that necklace....

I've seen a picture of my uncle at a similar age to Mr Eff's dad and, believe me, he's looking even more girlie than the picture shown here - long blonde hair and a dress. My uncle's just in his early 60s now so the practise isn't that old.

He was from a traditional rural family, dunno if that made a difference or not. I very much doubt if my dad's crowd (Belfast shipyard workers) would have allowed my old man to be seen in that gear. I'm pretty sure he was born with a cig in his hand, leering at women...

Further to Mark's pops photo - which was gorgeous btw. He's wearing a beautiful smock which looks to me like it's made of broderie anglaise . Possibly his christening gown as suggested by Veronica and maybe the necklace is a baptism medal (were they Catholic Mark?) or maybe just a family heirloom just for the photograph - don't forget that in those days having a photo done was a very special occasion.

Here's one of my grandad in 1905 also wearing a dress!

I'm still looking for some of my old photos, but I do have some from our last big vacation to New Zealand in August 2005.

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t203/bejmaf/McCrackensRest.jpg
This is on the southernmost part of the South Island. In fact, it wasn't too far from here that we encountered...

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t203/bejmaf/penguinkong.jpg
...a very scared and lonely little fellow. This undoubtedly explains the following:

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t203/bejmaf/PenguinCrossing2.jpg
Brenda actually has this sign on a T-Shirt.

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t203/bejmaf/InternationalAntarcticCentre.jpg
Since New Zealand is as close to Antarctica as you can get, all the major explorations launched to conquer the South Pole started here. Hence, they have the International Antarctic Centre in Christchurch. They have a room where the temperature goes down to -18 degrees Celsius with 40mph winds. Needless to say, I wore shorts inside.

http://www.movieforums.com/community/userimages/3041847cb686b67da6.jpg
We also cruised the fjord at Milford Sound. This is Milford Harbor, with Mitre Peak on the right.

http://www.movieforums.com/community/userimages/3041847cb701a37129.jpg
We also saw one of the most spectacular rainbows at Taupo on the North Island.

http://www.movieforums.com/community/userimages/3041847cb701a5a3a2.jpg
Believe it or not, we do take plenty of photos of people too, even if they don't especially like me to post them. :) This is at Rotorua at the Maori Cultural Center. The geyser is Pohutu, which means "Big Splash". Yes, Brenda (in her Indiana Jones hat), Sarah, and your humble photographer all got splashed.

http://www.movieforums.com/community/userimages/3041847cb727ed8c1a.jpg

And to think that I almost choked to death the first time I puffed one of them and I still went back and tried it again & again.

I've been smoking for over 20 years (well over half my life), gave up for 2 or 3 and have finally cut down to a few a day. Giving up was easy (and I was on more than a pack a day at the time) but taking it up again was just as easy.

At the end of the day I gave up because I wanted to and I smoke now because I want to. When you really want to give up you'll give up - don't beat yourself up about it, you'll know the time. :)

aww Lennon. Are you still so cute?:D

7thSon - Allison is a little cutie. I bet she brings much fun into your lives. I could say I'd love to have a little kiddie around the house again, but my son's will kill me for saying that, so I'm just thinking it ...:D

Sarah, those cartoons are AWESOME! I want to try it!

Also, looks like we have a new hottie in the mix, eh? ;)

What app did you use...I found Photo Flexer, but it doesn't work anywhere near as well as the photos you posted, so i trashed it.

I just tried using that. The pics don't turn out too well for me for some reason. Or maybe I'm just picky.

Here is a picture of me at a recent party. I was kissing up to the camera and I was already pretty well shitfaced at the time.

Is it me, or does Scout look like Sienna Miller in this pic?
Mmmmm very nice.:randy:....... Better make sure the girlfriend doesn't read this!!! Or she'll remove and wear my family jewels as ear rings!!!!!

This is one good-looking forum.

She'd need long lips from where she's standing.

7thson
03-15-08, 11:36 PM
That or to drop the urine sample cup and crook her finger.

But then there'd be urine on the floor.
And who wants to kiss over a puddle of urine?

Scout
03-16-08, 02:25 PM
Yes I was giving the camera man a kiss. He is one of my close friends. As for clutching the purse I was just closing it at the clip. It is hanging around my neck for safety. :)

We got back some photos of our cats today:

http://www.movieforums.com/community/userimages/3041847ddf241a0428.jpg
This is our youngest, Sylvia. She's sometimes considered "evil".

http://www.movieforums.com/community/userimages/3041847de022295fb8.jpg
This is Ulysses. He can be considered Annakin to that forshadowing Darth Vader on the left.

http://www.movieforums.com/community/userimages/3041847de03401cee9.jpg
Here is "dead" Sylvia. Sarah decided to decorate her so much, she not only killed her, but then made her blind.

http://www.movieforums.com/community/userimages/3041847ddfc4474502.jpg
This is the resurrected zombie Sylvia attacking an innocent China Doll. The horror...

http://www.movieforums.com/community/userimages/3041847ddfc448db7e.jpg
Here is the "recalcitrant" Sylvia, stylishishly modeling her Zelda hat. As you can all see, she LOVES wearing it!

Here is my fish pond. Well, a part of it. There is a stream that goes uphill, and makes a sharp right, to the garage.
Ignore that bucket. Oops!
Oh, and yes, this was taken last year. All of that will come back, and then some. I love perennials!
