Cutest baby ever (but I'm not biased or anything).
Less than a month until I finally get to meet the little bugger. My parents and I are driving up to Idaho next month to meet my mom's biological mother and some of my mom's half siblings and their families. My brother, SIL, and William are going to meet us out there. (My brother and his family live in Washington. My parents and I are in California). I'll be meeting lots of new family members all at once. Should be interesting.
Also, I can't wait for little William to get a little older and have more coordination. Then I can go crazy buying all of the most obnoxiously loud toys I can find.

Do any girls get offended if a guy calls them beautiful?
I think that depends on the delivery of the line from the guy. If you say it like a distraxted, harried film producer doing screentests, they probably gobble it up. If you look deep into their eyes and say it with a tent pitched out to their pubic area, they'll probably smack you like Moe would with a back hand.
Good grief, didn't this just happen to me a month ago!?! Spill! Tell me which one you are, Mr. too hot for your own good! You're one of the three in the back! Now watch, he'll tell me he's the other one off to the left side.
You mean the Steve Coogan look-alike?

Since I finally took a new picture to replace my Halloween one on Facebook, I figured I'd might as well share it here since I've only posted two pictures of myself, both of which were in costumes haha. It's poorly lit because it's really dark out today, but on the plus side it's just freezing rain instead of the snowstorm we were supposed to have, so I'm not complaining haha.

Beard pictures! This is almost five months of growth, with very little trimming:
29647
29648
Plan is to try a light trim on Monday, just to even it out, and then maybe go even shorter depending on how that looks. I've also booked a time for a haircut at a relatively fancy salon on Wednesday, since it's been a long time since I've had a haircut (obviously) and an even longer time since I've had it done anywhere particularly nice.
So, by this time next week, I should look pretty different.
I'll be sure to take before/after pictures, and possibly some in-between if I end up trimming the beard more than once.

NOOOOOO THAT BEARD IS GREAT!!!!!!!!
I do feel surprisingly ambivalent about trimming it, though probably just because it took so long and I've never had it this length before.
I'm gonna play it by ear, though and see how it looks before making any major decisions. Pretty good chance it'll end up shorter than this, but longer than I had it before.
Red Beard! Can you talk like a pirate?
Ya...yar? Yar? Am I doing that right?
One downside of the longer beard: makes it much more obvious how gray I am. I don't particularly mind, but it's an odd combination.

The only way to test your options empirically is to shave half of it off (left or right, your choice) for a side-by-side comparison. Science!

We have briefly. I went through a brief country phase last year and found out about them, but am only now digging into their discography since I have Spotify now. I'm listening to Sackcloth N Ashes right now. Really great stuff.
Whole lot of trimming and experimenting left to go, but I think it's a definitely improvement so far (before/after):

Even the longest setting (1") was shorter than I expected, and I was kind of alarmed for a moment. But seeing them side by side, it still looks pretty full, so that's a relief.

Somehow you look like you are out of a job and holding a wealthy job at the same time... What is this sorcery??? The Mark Zuckerberg life? Or just the forum moderator life? :D
Nice. I didn't know you had gotten such a gnarly beard.
Gnarly is definitely the correct word. I've got a handful of photos where I'm flaring it out as much as possible, just in case I ever need to demonstrate how crazy it got. I look pretty insane in them.
Somehow you look like you are out of a job and holding a wealthy job at the same time
Makes sense; both types of people are in a position not to care what other people think any more.
Whole lot of trimming and experimenting left to go, but I think it's a definitely improvement so far (before/after):

No, you're right. They're my nieces. The last time I had a chick on my junk from playing bass I was watching a Jaco tutorial with an Al Bundy hand sandwich.

My hair's not nearly as Michael Douglas-in-Wall Street as it looks. It's just kind of wet out.

Do your Robins eat worms or insects. The Robins in the US often feed by turning their head towards the ground, I assume to listen, then they pull a worm out from the grass. It's really amazing that they can do that.
Tacitus
04-10-17, 12:05 PM
I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure they eat insects over here. The birds on my lawn pecking around after a shower of rain are usually magpies and blackbirds.
I do have a nesting pair of buzzards, though, but they're in a tree in the far field. Magnificent creatures.
Not as magnificent as this Victorian Christmas card, however - Which proves what a European robin looks like!

They're called Robins because of the colouring but are a totally different species to the Flycatchers. Thanks I didn't know that. But now that you mention it, we do have a bird called the Varied Thrush that looks like the cousin of an American Robin.

They never come to bird feeders unless you put out fruit.
The Rodent

Could well be related if it's a Thrush.
There's loads of "Robins" out in the world, but only in name because they have a red breast.
Australasian Robins, Scarlett Robins, American Robins, Norfolk Robins... there's only one true type of Robin though, found only in the UK and European countries.
There's a type of bird in the Canary Islands as well named Robins, though it's believed they're an evolutionary throwback in a similar way as the Madagascan Lesser Hedgehog Tenrec.
It's not a Hedgehog, not even related, yet is identical to hedgehogs, and even has the same diet and breeding habits.

Okay I've got one.
My sister has the pics - once I get them I'll post. But the concert last night was freaking amazing. Afterwards a milestone in my life happened: for the first time not only did I meet a famous person but it was a famous person I really admire. I got to meet Jamie, 1/3 of KKB and one of my favorite electronic producers alongside Gus. In my own little world shaking his hand, thanking him, getting a pic and having him thank me for coming to see them (the genuine sincerity of which is worth nothing) meant a lot to me.
As for the concert itself, they were spectacular. Sarah had the amazing stage presence you'd expect but I was surprised that Gus and Jamie had so much presence, as well. For some reason I kind of expected them to just be in the background with their gadgets, but they were really having fun with it. All three put on a great show. The crowd was amazing too and the vibes all around were as upbeat, positive and energetic as you'd expect from a KKB concert.
Anyway, this was basically my sister's birthday present to me, and it's without a doubt the best present I've ever gotten.

This reminds me that a 2017 Tattymobile thread should be started soon. I'll need to order it within a month.

Where I live is mostly winding roads up and down mountains and, even though it's underpowered, most people can't keep up with me on those 2 lane roads. It's also fantastic at passing on those roads, too. Everywhere else (city and highway) you will have to rev it up pretty hard to keep up/pass some people. And I've read they made some improvements to the handling for the 2017 model.
Oh, and 30-35MPG doesn't hurt either. I'm one of the few people who loves Toyota putting their D4-S fuel injection system on it: lots of people don't like it because it's hard to tune.

It looks like I'll be facing a straight choice between style and performance. I could get another DS3 Sport (or whatever the Sports are called these days) or a Seat Leon FR, which has 185bhp and 60mpg but looks like a box.
I'm leaning towards performance. ;)

I kinda lucked into my car. But if I had to do it all over again I'd get the same thing.
I wanted something highly impractical and fun. Also, I like the looks of the Leon.

I was only a little kid when she was born but man, I'm so proud of her. She was super smart and beautiful the day she opened her eyes. And her husband is the nicest guy I know.
Lest we forget.

Yes they are. Its a pretty small community and i think that mental illness up here can be a lot more devastating, since there are so few options in terms of getting on with your life.
It is beautiful up here :)

yes I can understand that. It must be really hard. It can be more difficult too in traditional communities that stick to old ways. Don't know if it's like that so massive generalisation, but I'm just thinking of some rural villages I know.
A little VHS hunting today. Snagged a decent copy of these two. E.T. still shrink wrapped from the Caldor's days.

dont make jokes about this very serious spot in india....serious because it is also famous for people committing suicide from this spot , by jumping off the tableland . yeah , people in financial trouble , people whose relationships are failing , young couples whose marriage plans face opposition from parents or their communities because they belong to different castes or religions---all have committed suicide by jumping off this place . people travelling alone to this spot are under the scanner for potential suicide attempt , as lonely people are more likely to commit suicide .

Are you really? Where are you staying? I'm showing 12 Angry Men on 18th May then not 100% sure what date/film next month. It will be a Thursday night though so most likely 22nd or 29th. What dates are you over?

I keep trying to figure out who "Holden Pike" (or the guy in his photos) reminds me of - it's an amalgam of famous people, but it finally occurred to me - (there's a little bit of a young John Goodman in there) but there is a strong element of Victor Buono in him. He's obviously a lot better looking & thinner (Holden, that is). But imagine that expression on "King Tut" on the old Batman TV show! ;)
