My wife Brenda just came back from the Big Bear Fly-In on Saturday, so I'll try to post some photos of that too. They had lots of skydiving, a Piper Archer lost its landing gear (all three wheels) on arrival, and the Warbirds made some spectacular takeoffs.

Yeah, he was doing alright until the fighter jet flew over. Of course, when you live close to the base, the planes literally fly right over you. We ended up sitting outside on our back porch watching the rest.

Of course, my wife and I shared our fear that something would happen and a plane would crash into the house. You already know... the rest of the story. :D

I didn't go because I'm still nursing some pain I have in my back, and we didn't think it would do me much good going up and down that long, windy road to Big Bear. She went with four other 99s and enjoyed herself though. I've got to make sure I'm in good enough shape to start school.

Thanks C. Alex just got a major haircut... chopped it all off. He's had really long hair since the 5th grade so it was a big change. Whether or not he keeps it like that is anyone's guess :^)

I was browsing around for some pics of the Cathedral next to me for nebbs and came across these.

This old building is the one which is between Tatty Towers and said Cathedral. As you can see, it's seen better days but is a listed building (17th Century coaching house, apparently) but there is planning permission in place to turn it into posh apartments. The problem is that the permission has been in place for about 3 years and nothing has been done.

The old girl is slowly crumbling away. :(

A well-known developer in the town bought it a few years ago with grand plans but hasn't done a thing bar applying for planning permission. Being a listed building he can't change the shape of the building or the materials its made from so I know it's not gonna turn into some modern monstrosity.

Everything's blue - including the ceiling! It actually looks really nice ... by mistake. :)

Y'see, the kitchen was proving a bugger to paint and my back was giving way after about 15 minutes each time I started. My control went to pot and the bit where the walls met the (2 coats of) white ceiling looked like I was trying to paint it while riding a galloping horse. :D

A friend suggested that:

a) Get someone to finish it - and there was no way I would let that happen

Or

2) Do the ceiling the same colour as the walls

The moral of this sorry tale is that the next time Tatty Towers needs decorating I'm gonna swallow my pride and pay someone to do it...

...Although I have a feeling Old Big Head here will think he's Picasso again. :)

While unpacking yesterday, I came across some old photos of my family and me.

Let's see. The top left one has my bro Todd, my Grandpa, my Grandma (they both died in the '70s) and I'm in the shadow. That was taken around 1965 at Shelter Island, San Diego. The top right one has me standing in front of my Dad's copper Chevy Impala. Somehow the date got cropped. It was developed in Sept. 1960. The bottom left has Todd and me at Santa's Village in the San Bernardino Mountains (the only time we ever went there). Finally, on the bottom right, we have Todd, my Mom and me in front of our '65 Oldsmobile Delta 88. The two right photos with our cars were taken in front of our house in Compton.

so today was supposed to be a typical day like every other day where I take a visiting friend to downtown London to do some sightseeing when suddenly i came across the premiere of Sherlock Holmes in the Empire theater on Lester Square,and to make it a bit more interesting we decided to stay for 3 whole hours so that I can see at least one celebrity I never knew that on premiers its so tough to wait and hope some of the stars of the cast to come around you so that you can take a picture however I was lucky enough to take a snap of Rachel McAdams who was stunning believe me she is incredibly beautiful then director Guy Ritchie with whom we shook hands and he said to me "Hello Mate"(I am not making this up at all it was an awesome experience) and then of course came Robert Downey Jr but he was a little bit far from us however a nice video was taken Jude Law and Mark Strong were the only ones who gave a lot of interviews and didn't have time for the fans,btw Mark Strong is bald(i didn't know that hahah)anyway here are some snaps that I took

Wow... you go all out Mrs. D! :D How did all the food turn out? The pics kinda small so it's hard to tell...

Everything turned out well. The strudel was nibbled, but the chocolate croissants were gone immediately after dinner. The meatballs were a hit, and I served grilled shrimp for my pescatarian friends. No one was adventurous enough to try the blue, Avatar-themed drink, but the 'Red Carpet Fizz' was a success. The airline sized liquors went home with guests as party favors. :D

aww, Anneke, I like you already! what a great answer to a great compliment. ;) reminds me of how in Bleak House the protagonist reminisces on how she watched one of her friends (who knew how to read in a time when women didnt), pretend to be unlearned and sign with a "mark" after her fiance, who was a man of little means, signed with a mark prior to her signature. the girl was clearly more than him, if only intellectually, but was unwilling to shame him about it.

in the book, it reminded her that there were still good and compassionate people out there.

up to date though, years ago one of our longtime friends, who I shall describe as a dashing beauty compared to her beau, one time mentioned in passing to us that she knew he wasnt "you know," but that she loved him. What more can you ask for? to date they are still together and have 2 absolutely gorgeous daughters whom I imagine will keep their father busy with their many exploits as he will have to beat the boys off with a stick.

LOL, you always get your feet wet a bit to trailer the boat. So I got all clever with my new waterproof boots. Only the water was thigh-level, so I just jumped in without taking them off. When they started filling up I felt like an idiot. (gotta remember---boots higher than the water, boots higher than the water) There's always spectators to view stunts like these..... (for a laugh, set up a lawn chair at your local boat ramp and sit back and watch the shenanigans)
