These are top-secret photos. My in-laws don't like me to share their photos (Don't ask.) Here, they are watching my DVD of "All in the Family". While watching it, they kept assuring me that Carroll O'Connor was better in "In the Heat of the Night". OK...

These are top-secret photos. My in-laws don't like me to share their photos (Don't ask.)

I'm telling!

There is this new application on Facebook where you turn your photos into cartoons. It is pretty good.

I can't get the colored one to work anywhere near as good as you all did. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Maybe my photos are too dark. Hell, in one, I ended up looking like an ugly man. No, I'm not showing it.
The only one that worked, was the sketching option. Here is a very old picture, or maybe I should say a very young picture. I want to go in there with a pencil, and fix that. Where the hell did my fat, bottom lip go!?!

Aye, it's a whole 2 years 8 months old and 18,000 massive miles on the clock. :p

It's on one of those 3 year deals so I need to get shot soon-ish (July/Aug) and drop into something new. When I was in the trade I'd get extra commission for knocking out a finance deal like that but now I'm a mere customer I can actually see the benefits. ;)

Still got the Mondeo? :p

"It goes really fast and gets really sh*tty gas mileage!"That reminds me of the time when I went to a track day at Donington for the launch of the Series II Land Rover Discovery (oh, the perks I had! :D) and we were allowed to thrash various huge lumps of metal around the circuit. The best/worst one was that awful Lexus SUV thing which, according to the trip computer, returned 5 mpg after I'd done a lap.

I've got an old photo somewhere of me racing a Formula Ford car at Knockhill in Scotland. I say 'racing' but I distinctly remember asking the wife to take some shots of me racing along the back straight but all that resulted was one of 10 cars sitting stationary at the start...

...then she ran out of film (which dates the photo, digital cameras were just a nightmare for quick print photo shop managers). :(

christine

Still got the Mondeo? :p(

:D touché!

yeah, but we got the estate ST TDCi now , ace for fitting in two German Sheps and the mpg is pretty good for such a meaty car.

We just have this psychological bar on buying anything red ;)

Hello!

So, I think you are probably blood related to the lady on the bottom left, correct? You posted their pics so you have to tell us who they all are :)

She wishes! :D That chick has the serious hots for my brother, and is really hoping to be a part of the family - which, of course, means I should to go to everything she has, including this, which was a birthday dinner for her with those of our pals who could make it. She's the piano player for our choir; to her left is the current choir director (and older sis of the girl in the hat on the far left ->who was our former choir director  ), me; and then in the pink, the baby of our group - sliding in at 23yrs.

Toosy, Im going to tell her you thought we were sisters - it'll either shatter her vanity, or fill her with warm fuzzies about the future. Who knows?? It'll be interesting to watch THAT reaction play across her face. *laughs evilly*

After seeing the silhouette my initial thought was that you're Jeremy Clarkson! It must have been the hair that gave it away...

I quite like Jezza, even though he appears to be as far away from me politically as Hitler. The folk he annoys don't seem to realise he says things with a wink and fine sense of irony. Top Gear is the best programme the BBC make...

Ok, he's a tw@t but as a friend of mine once memorably said, "He's The Alpha Tw@t!"

So. me and my sisters went to vist our demented grandmother the weekend before last. with our dad, who is her son. she spent the balance of the trip thinking that our aunt (her daughter) was our dad's mother (thus thinking our aunt was our grandmother), which pissed my dad off, but was kind of fun. it was more fun the more irritated he got, simply because the man has spent his life being a blunt instrument - unfortunately, you cant fix someone's mind by telling them to "suck it up!" finesse. gentility. understanding. these words are not a part of his vocabulary. apparently she thinks her daughter is dead, and refuses to believe otherwise, even though aunt comes by every. single. day. (and then I went and made the mistake of calling our aunt (who is my very own namesake!) "grandma" over dinner --- it was a very tense moment, in which I almost wondered if I was going to catch one of those grown people beat downs. However, my gaffe was intentionally and artfully deflected by the immediate and sudden cacophony of my sisters' loud and inane chatter. plus, they were between me and her. ;))

R to L: little sis, big sis, me. dad, aunt, unc

This weekend though, me and my mom kicked it with some family friends. our fam + their fam = friends since the old days. childhood buddy got married the way some people did in the old days.....at the end of a shotgun. except. there was no shotgun, no "family way," and no underage or even college age minors. instead, it tasted of the new new shotgun wedding of people who already have the house, honeymoon and car, tire of "living in sin" and decide to finally put the cart before the horse and get a judge to tie the old knot. so yeah. he called me friday night to share the news and to see if the fam could show on short notice - since mom and I were the only ones in town, I dragged her out to the celebratory dinner, where I spent the evening like all singles at marriage events - being shamelessly scrutinized like I was for sale - to which I compensated handsomely by messing with the guys and couple at my table. something so wrong should not have felt so right, but they got me back by trying to give me the bouquet. Then I played with the children, which is always fun (actually, they ran me a little ragged, and me and all my "stuff" felt a little worse for the wear).

CHARIOTS OF SNOT

That would be me in the yeller shirt at the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon into mile 13 about several yards from the finish of my first half-marathon. This was on May 4th of this year.

I finished at a blazing 2h25m and just one minute ahead of the full marathon winner. I started running last December and ran in 11 degree nights during the winter, etc., and never got sick. Ever. About 3 weeks before the race, I contracted some severe allergies for the first time in my life. I tried to tough it out, but I was relegated to gulping Nyquil and eating Drixoral just to sleep at night. Nothing even touched the drainage though, which was relentless. Why I didn't go ahead and see a doctor (which I had to do the next week)- I don't know.

So, by race time, I was as dry and listless as a bone and felt terrible. Nonetheless, what a terrific time this was. There were over 100,000 people lined up all along the course, cheering you on like a rock star. The whole course was rife with bands, banners, choirs, parties and random cheering masses. The whole thing was spectacularly organized.

Overall, out of about 16,000+ total participants, I finished 4,325th....about an 11:00 mile pace, which was in my goal. Well, the real goal was to train well enough not to kill my bad self. Mission accomplished- and I may even do this foolishness again.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b69/greenspagbol/4.jpg

This is my actual view from my living room window and that building is the old ruin on the left here, in front of the cathedral.

Which means that the 'Convent' is my neighbour Bertie's house and mine isn't in view at all. The convent is, indeed, a white building and my house does, indeed, have a red tiled roof.

The moral of this story is - take your own bloody photograph next time! Of course, I'm crap at photoing. ;)

I'm there 3 1/2 years now and don't see me moving anywhere else in this town. I've got a move left in me but am biding my time what with this credit crunch/recession and the undeniable fact that I can't really be bothered right now. There are only two places I fancy, either back 'home' to Omagh or 'home II' somewhere in England.

The balls are still up in the air and I imagine they'll stay there for another couple of years. ;)

METEOROLOGICAL LUSCIOUSNESS IN OHIO
I am a storm spotter (http://www.erh.noaa.gov/iln/spotterpage/spotter.htm) for our regional National Weather Service office. We are activated out of this office during impending severe weather.

Ever since the April 3-4, 1974 Super Outbreak (http://http://www.publicaffairs.noaa.gov/storms/index.html), the largest recorded outbreak in US history- (dropping 148 tornadoes in 13 states in 48 hours)- I have been smitten by weather.

Here in SW Ohio this past June 3-4, we had about 6 separate rounds of severe weather. On June 3rd, we were under a tornado watch for a total of almost 18 hours over the course of the day.

That afternoon, tornadic supercells exploded over us (http://www.erh.noaa.gov/iln/June2008/Event2-1Z.png). I was meeting with a guy in a coffee shop in town when the owner came out and scooped up all the furniture, mumbling something about a tornado coming. I was a bit incredulous until I saw the warning when I pulled it up online. I looked at my buddy, who, thankfully, used to be a professional photojournalist, and said "let's go get it." I say luckily because he happened to have his 12,000 dollar camera with him.

We took up a couple of positions in the NW part of town with tornado sirens blaring and the police driving through the nearby trailer park, alerting citizens on their loudspeaker. At a gas station, someone came out and told us a tornado was on the ground 5 miles from us, so we moved in a little closer and got some more shots when the hail started. We decided to take up another position further south because the precip core was getting too close, especially if there was a rain-wrapped tornado inside it.

My thoughts were to drive the mile to my house and call in any needed reports to the NWS office. But the storm had cut us off basically, as it was expanding overhead. We had no recourse but to race into Kroger (our grocery store), where the store manager and a couple of employees and some oblivious citizens were standing or trying to walk to their cars. The manager asked if there was going to be a tornado. I could barely hear and see him over the sirens and the horizontal rain sheets.

I saw that no one really knew what to do there and I instructed the manager we needed to get everyone to the center of the store as fast as possible. I gave the manager some radar updates (I kept up with stuff on my Treo 700) to let him know when people could go and made some calls. I could see the rain stopped and that's when I knew if this storm had something in it, this was the time and place. My photographer buddy, the manager and I went to the front and out to the parking lot and this is what we saw:
http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg85/rpglennj/SevereWeatherPics/CopyofCWM_7847r.jpg
Looking west between 9-930pm, this was the storm being warned for a tornado. This is the rotating wall cloud and the thinner filaments of cloud to the left of center were shooting straight up in the updraft. Wall clouds are rotating updrafts in supercell thunderstorms that are detected by doppler radar. About half of all rotating storms actually put down tornadoes.

http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg85/rpglennj/SevereWeatherPics/CWM_7877r-1.jpg
The wall cloud is now directly overhead, still rotating. There is a small funnel cloud just to the left of center that lasted about 10 seconds. The bright spot next to the wall cloud on the far left is perhaps the rear flank downdraft- a downward thrust of cold, dry air from the top of the storm. They are thought to be significant in spinning up the actual tornado, but no is really sure how/why.

http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg85/rpglennj/SevereWeatherPics/CWM_7893r-1.jpg
About a minute later, the storm was to our north, and exhibited a classic rotating wall cloud, reaching very close to the ground level from the base of the parent storm.

http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg85/rpglennj/SevereWeatherPics/CWM_7911r-1.jpg
Funnel cloud #2...although a bit harder to see, it spun up another funnel cloud just right of center, above the two appendages to the right. The funnel was thin (with smoothed edges in comparison to the other features in the picture) and short-lived as well at about 5-10 seconds. A better shot of it is here (http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg85/rpglennj/SevereWeatherPics/CWM_7911r.jpg)

The National Weather Service actually later confirmed a weak (EF0 (http://www.spc.noaa.gov/efscale/))tornado touchdown just a mile SW of my home about 15 minutes before we took these pictures.

Though some of you may have seen tornadoes before and may live where it is more happenstance, (such as the great Toose in his Texas abode), this was a fairly rare setup of SW Ohio.

It's not often I get to post about something related to my avatar.

Buck Snort, TN? Buck Snort?

Did you make that up? You're from Knoxville, I thought. I know Knoxville. I should. I'm there once to three times a week, usually. David Keith lives there.

Buck Snort?

Buck Snout sounds better.

Yep, Justin's a cutie, and Slug, I can finally stop picturing you as Rodney Dangerfield. Sorry! I couldn't help it. ;)

Haha......Bucksnort (actually the way it's spelled) is between Nashville and Memphis on I-40. There is a sign for it on the road.
Buck Snout or Buck Snot does sound cool too. Let's go start a new town.

And I am indeed from Knoxville.

My wife is actually from a town in East Tennessee called Bulls Gap, but named after John Bull, an early settler and store owner.

hehe OK, we will.

The only thing we have named after us, that I know of, is Koontz Lane. Well, Koon Lane. He switched it. Long story, short. Something about people hating Germans. Then later, that became a nasty, slang, racist word. He just couldn't win. My great grandfather, that is. I hear he was a VERY nice man. :yup:

I hear there's another Koontz, that writes some really good books. No relation. :D

I have been looking through some photos which included some of my earlier pets, so I thought I might share some of those who have passed on. They are still with us, in memory, of course.

Velvet, named after the Elizabeth Taylor character in National Velvet. She just crawled into a mailed Christmas present box we received in the mail. R.I.P.

Mousse, who was once one of Santa's reindeer. She was named Moose because she had big feet, but the the spelling was changed because of her color. R.I.P.

Here's the Christmas tree involved with these pets. :)

Nice animals, Mark. I had no idea you had a cloud fetish, it changes how I think about you. But in a good way! :)
