Tim Burton's: A Corpse Bride
The reason is that I haven't seen it, but I have really liked all of the other Burton works that I have seen (minus Planet of the Apes). So I figured that I would give it a try and see if that one is any good. And from the reviews that people have given me, I think that I should enjoy it.

Freak Out (Uk)
It's a low budget indie flick from the Uk. Absolutely hilarious! It's had brilliant reviews pretty much everywhere, and my sister bought a copy (which is how I saw it first). It's packed with extras, which suprised me seeing as the movie is pretty much unheard of in the mainstream - yet they've kicked most DVD releases up the backside!! Anyway, I got my own copy and have been really inspired (I'm a wannabe director, and this film made me realise it is possible to make a movie with substance in your own back garden!!).
Don't know if you can get it in the states yet though.

I actually bought six today. Dave Chappelle's Block Party, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The World's Fastest Indian, Screwed, Beavis and Butt-Head Vol.2, and The Hills Have Eyes remake. My local K-Mart had it a week early which I thought was awesome. Anyway, I bought them for different reasons. Either I love the movie or haven't seen it and am curious. I am a big blind buyer. But usually I am satisfied.

While the 2 disc Munich was never even released in Canada (had to buy it off eBay the week it came out to avoid paying some crazy price), at least 3 or 4 of the 2-disc Jarhead sat around on the shelf at Future Shop for weeks.
I found out it was OOP and went and bought it right up. The next week, there was nothing.:p

I LOVE these ****ing Criterion transfers. They really do such a fantastic job on them. The commentary on Rushmore (with Anderson, Wilson & Schwartzman) is the best I've heard in quite a while.
One complaint though,
Why is it that every Wes Anderson flick has a Criterion edition, except Bottle Rocket?
Don Fishies
06-17-06, 01:33 AM
Oop?
OOP = out of print.
As for Bottle Rocket, I can only assume it will become a Criterion one day. Seems like Buena just handed over the reigns to Criterion to distribute all of Anderson's flicks after they put out a barebones Rushmore (which I sadly own).
Rocket is a Sony release though, so that partially explains why it's missing and not being released like the others.

Just hit 700+, most of the dvds I buy range from $3-$10 bucks except for the new releases so Im not really spending alot of money. I am always getting movies out of the $5.50 bin at wal-mart, $3 dollar dvds from the pawn shops and I catch some good deals on ebay also. I sell alot of stuff to buy dvds Im really into shoes (Nike, Jordan, limited release shoes) so I buy alot of them and then resell them on this other forum. Its a cycle buy shoes, sell shoes, buy dvds.
If the shoe is really limited or a Quickstrick I can get it for retail and make like a $100 dollar profit off of them, it just depends on how limited the shoes are, and once I have sold them I will spend like $50 on dvds and put the rest back for another limited shoe release.
What an interesting person you are Hazii :yup:

Nope, not terrible, when all is said and done. The sets retail for $60 and $50 respectively, which averages out to about $10 a piece for each film. But yes, I ordered them online at a substantial discount, so it averages out to about $7 for each of the eleven films.
I've done much, much worse of course. I just wish Warners had spaced out the sets by a few weeks or so, so I didn't have to lay out all the money for them at once.
But Warners has been doing just MARVELOUS stuff with their libraries. FAR more than any of the other major Studios. They're putting everybody but the indpenednets like Criterion to shame. Keep it up, guys....just space them out a little more, please.

Ren and Stimpy - The Lost Episodes.
I was a fan of the original Ren and Stimpy cartoons when they came out, and I'd heard that there were new ones on cable, but I'd missed them when they aired, and now they are on DVD and I must say that they are just perverse and wrong and absolutely hilarious. "stimpy's Pregnant" is probably the sickest cartoon I've ever seen.

Ay. But i didn't pay anything for the first one. I just saved it up til i was really in the mood for a bit of full-on-cinema. And was then sorely disappointed ;)

You know what he means. Besides, movies you don't like don't have to be considered as 'crap'. You could at least just say you simply dislike it. Or it isn't your type of film. Putting everything down that alot might like gets pretty boring if ya ask me. Others have a wider variety of tastes in film than you do ya'know.
Knowing you, what I wrote here will go in one ear and out the other but that's alright. I guess

Had a change of heart, and decided to forgo the orginal releases of "Cowboy Bebop". Opted to get the "Remix" version, which is pretty much the same thing with updated 5.1 audio and slight color correction. Bandai are abunch of blood sucking parasites sometimes, I swear. I know they can fit more than 4 episodes per DVD instead of trying to bleed people dry. The packaging sucks quite frankly, but I guess it's the content that matters the most, right? I should be getting my HT set up in the near future which will make this purchase all the more enjoyable.
If you guys enjoy good story telling, then Bebop is a must see. It stray's away from the stereotypical anime formula. I must admit, even I was put off by the title at first. Once I put aside my reluctance; I was blown away by not only how mature a story it had, but how spiritual it was. Regardless if you're an anime fan or not, you will love this. I'm not even that fond of anime to be honest, but this OVA is amazing, You'd be doing yourself a great injustice by passing up on this.

See, the better plan would be for every one of your Northerners to buy yourselves some street urchin from London to be your translator.
Something like:
Yorkshire guy: "asgdaksdgkagdksa"
Chav Translator: "Pass the Lentils, please"
Which would make for both superior television AND rid the world of loitering chav types, causing not only an economic boom but, in fact, world peace. You just need to beat the "oy"'s and "apples and pears" out of them. And teach them how to speak.
But it saves me from trying to find the caption button on my remote.

Which would make for both superior television AND rid the world of loitering chav types, causing not only an economic boom but, in fact, world peace. You just need to beat the "oy"'s and "apples and pears" out of them. And teach them how to speak.
But it saves me from trying to find the caption button on my remote.
That's a Special Edition DVD I'd consider shelling out for but I think the Health & Safety people would have a collective heart attack. ;)
Incidentally, if you couldn't understand the dialect in the show itself, don't ever venture as far as the commentary track. Kay, McGuinness & co are not only all speaking at once...they're also drunk.
Great stuff actually. :D
Brian: What's the matter with you, man?
Jerry: What's the matter with me? I'll tell you what's the matter with me. Me first week as licensee, I'm stood here looking like a gay Satan cos somebody sold all me clothes on t'jumble. I've been rolled round t'car park all day dressed as a hernia and I've got 12 people in casualty with rubber burns.
Brian: Rubber Burns? Weren't he a Scottish poet?

This one I heard about for a long time before it came out and just the sound of it I knew I was going to love it and then low and behold when it's released it turns into one of my favorite movies of this year. If you haven't seen it go rent it, better yet buy it.

I just bought the Special Grindhouse Releasing Edition of Cannibal Holocaust, The Big Lebowski, Dog Day Afternoon, and The Short Films of David Lynch.
I had $100 in this DVD store I had just found, and it had all these movies I've heard of but could never find anywhere, and with good prices. I had to get them.

Mm-hmm. Indeed. I plan to but still need that price to drop. 24 bucks is a little too high for me at the moment. I think I can be a little patient and wait out a few months.

JRS. How is the "Cleaned up transfer" on the Blade Runner disc you bought? The old DVD transfer is just terrible, and I have been watching my Euro cut on VCR instead, for the most part (thanks again Holden). I would like to get back in front of the directors cut, but I think maybe I should wait a few months until all the BR hoopla gets going with the new cut (http://www.cinematical.com/2006/05/26/ridleys-final-blade-runner-cut-is-coming/) I hear is coming out? Holden, have you seen this recently released disc at all?

Last DVD i bought was Rules of Attraction. Because I returned it late to blockbuster. So i figured i would just keep it. :p
If you havent saw the movie yet. Its worthy of seeing. It has all the Bad stuff that sells. Sex, Drugs, and Rock and Roll. Also it uses some good literary devices and film techniques. That are worthy of Praise.
