Both films are excellent. Can't believe hardly any CGI was used on the creatures in Silent Hill, all make-up and so on instead.

Just bought the following for someone:

I missed 10 of the 15 episodes, so can't wait to catch up. Cousin's voice is something that you have to get use to, it turned a lot of people off the series. Didn't have that with the wonderful book the series is based on at least. :nope:

Yep, his voice killed it for me. Not helped by the fact that I kept 'hearing' Stephen Fry do his voice from his episode of Room 101. :D

Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead

Because it looked too awesome to ignore. I mean, just look at the title! And it stars Ron Jeremy, so you know it's gotta be quality, right?

And just read the description from Amazon:

A fast-food franchise is built over an Indian burial ground, leading the spirits of disgruntled Native Americans to invade the corpses of chickens destined for the grill. The reanimated birds then engage in a human head-chomping killing spree, and the result is the finest and funniest chicken zombie movie with songs and lesbians you are likely to see this--or any--year.

Someone recommended the film because I'm a fan of the animation Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind - Hayao Miyazaki worked on Horus also as an animator - and this film is similar. It looks fantastic. It's called Little Norse Prince here in the UK but I think its original title is Horus: Prince of the Sun.

After having it on my rental queue for ages and waiting it was taken off the list by the company because it was no longer avaliable for rent and it still isn't. So decided to buy it on blu-ray but it's been going for an expensive price on most mainstream websites I order from - £20+... - but I just had a look at HMV and it's gone down to £12, so I've snapped it up because it's still expensive from other places.

The last films I purchased were Cache, Funny Games, The Lookout, The Box, and Appaloosa.

I enjoyed Funny Games, that's why I got Cache, to see other works by the director. The reason I'd re-purchased Funny Games is because my other copy had oneside full and oneside wide, 'I HATE THAT!!!'.

The Lookout was a good film so I got it for someone I thought would enjoy it, they did.

The Box and Appaloosa were three bucks at Walmart, that explains that for the most part.

Over the years this movie developed a cult following and for some reason became a must have among certain segments of society. There was a period that it was virtualy impossible to get in Dvd and even when they had the bidding wars on E-bay, I lost out over a dozen times.
I just wasn't prepared to pay the overinflated price.

honeykid

It had a cult following back then, too. However, without the communicating wonder that is todays web, it was up to most individuals to discover their own gems. As I'm sure you rememeber only too well. ;) The good old days, as we call them now. :D

I don't blame you not paying those prices.

Blu-ray certainly isn't going anywhere anytime soon and apparently the next format requires a new television set and I can't see many people buying a new(I assume expensive) television in order to play the next format.

Blu-ray is all I buy for films now unless it's only out on DVD and every single person I know has a blu-ray player now.

Well that's where you and I differ, as a film fan I want the best picture quality that's out there that I can get at the moment, and blu-ray is that format. I'm not spending money on DVDs when I can get the film in much better quality.

who's to say even these won't be modifiable with some future computer programer wiz and marketed as such?

You will be waiting a long time.

Blu-ray players already upscale DVDs to look slightly better(enough that you can see a difference). So if can and you buy a blu-ray player, your DVDs will look better than they do now.

I did a similar thing with Nolan's Batman. I bought the boxset of the first two... now TDKR is out in just over a week from now and will make my eye twitch when I see the boxset and the singular one on the shelf together.

I could throw the box to one side and put them all on the shelf loose, but the OCD in me knows that the first two don't belong with a singular DVD by their side.

I just dropped $85 on this god damn Totoro blu-ray.

$85?! you can get it from Japan for about £35/$57... It looks a nice blu-ray though!

"American Graffiti" for my grandfather, because it's one of his favorite movies and I understand him.

Because it was $7.95 at a local used store. I do enjoy Eric Rohmer though.

I also spent a lot (50) on this version of Blademin, because I like this cover art better than this new one that came out.

Jaysus, that cost me £19.99 delivered from The States when it was released. It was a fantastic deal then (eBay, new and sealed I think) but seems even more fantastic now. ;)

You mean apart from the fact you end up with a copy of Blade Runner? :p

Alfred Hitchcock: The Legend Begins

Bought it for cheap at the same used bookstore as the copy of Triple Agent. It has 18 movies and 2 Alfred Hitchcock presents episodes. I bought it because it has a large amount of what I believe are his silent films, as well as Blackmail.

^As far as multile copies of a film.

Spoiler!!!

I did somthing somewhat similar, in pursuit of a version of the more recent Funny Games, I could've sworn that the first version I saw of this film was far more twisted, that Watts had been bound into a sitting, almost fetal position, her last gasp for breath screwed with my head, ended up buying several alternate copies to no avail; I need help.
