Yep! There will be a lot of crap, I'm sure, but for that price, and with some of them being really good, it's worth it. Besides, I love cheesy horror. Not all, by any means, but I'll get to view them all to see.

They have a few other packs at Amazon (Mystery, Family, and Westerns), for that price. All have 250 movies, for right around 50 dollars. Sure, they aren't Blu-ray. Good thing for me I don't give a crap about that. ;)

As soon as they show up, I'll let you know how the quality is.

I picked up Lantana and They Came Back from the bargain bin at the drugstore today at 2/$5.00. I haven't seen either of them before, but they were cheap and if I don't like them it's no big deal.
I love Lantana :yup:

I picked up for $1 American Dreamz  it is so bad i could watch it all the way through  i am just about to Frizz-bee it :yup:

I have both of those, you're in for a treat. First viewing? The Killer Shrews. One of the funniest horror films I've ever seen, but then, I'm easily pleased... And I was with friends... And we were drunk. Still, good times.

God, I'm such a fangirl.

I actually bought the Directors Cut of Troy because I read some reviews that said it was better and it was better because Odysseus was in it more which helped to create more sympathy for the Greeks.

Sean Bean plays Odysseus. And there was more of him, yea, and he's still the best part of the movie!

But, you know, that movie has so many problems.

I was confused because you can get Waxwork (not the second one though) Inglorious Bastards, Vanishing Point and Altered States at play.com. I think that, with a little more research, you might be able to find most of the others too. I'm sure that I've seen Monster Squad on R2 as well. Le Samurai maybe somewhere too, but if you'd just want to see it or don't mind a tv recording, then I think they still show it on TCM.

I watched the trailer for the new Star Trek flick and got pumped for some Shatner action, so went out to fill in the gaps of my Trek movie collection with the one where they go the save the dolphins. So i go into HMV to get the Special Edition but there's no blurb on the back, so to make sure i get the right one I check the cheap ones. Find out it's Star Trek: IV so go find the Special Edition version, buy it, go home, put it in the collection. Then i notice it's exactly the same case as my Star Trek: VI. Conclusion- epic fail.

Excellent Iro! What made you buy Peep Show or how did you hear about it?

Well, it was going for half its usual price (A$30 to A$15) so I jumped on it while I still could. And I'm not entirely sure, but I think I heard about it on this site, caught most of the first two series on TV shortly afterwards.

However, distributors are yet to release anything past the first series on DVD. I wonder if I'm desperate enough to import the rest yet...

Pyro Tramp
12-01-08, 10:48 AM
I wouldn't unless you're head over heels for it. The first two seasons are the peak of the show before they started toning it down a bit when it got a more mainstream audience.

Finally found Masaki Kobayashi's Human Condition trilogy for a reasonable price and I bought them because I love every film I've seen of his (and I hear these are even better than the rest) and also because every other time I've seen them for sale they've either had no English subtitles or have been absurdly expensive (like $200+ each). Picked up Letter From An Unknown Woman (from the UK as it doesn't appear to be out in North America) at the same time because that's the last one I needed to complete watching Time Out's top 100 films.

Picked up the fantastic Wall-E and the hopefully OK Kung Fu Panda for the whole family.

And on a more embarassing note, picked up Harold And Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay because I found it funny when I rented it and it looks to have rewatchability.

http://www.stanford.edu/group/iberia/images/800balas.jpg
I liked Accion Mutante in a daft 'I know it's silly' kind of way; plus this is a Spaghetti Western homage and it was only £3.

I like it, Giorgio Moroder did the music and Nastassja Kinski is very hot, end of story.

Classic horror flick, Cushing, Lee, and Telly Savalas as a mad Cossack; mine for £3.

Ordered from the States, violent 80's horror, can't wait for this remastered version to arrive.

I've just watched this and, without wanting to come over all anal (Ooo-err!), the transfer is bloody gorgeous. It seems to have the same extras as the DVD (as per usual when I replace something, the R2 DVD - the original 2 disc edition in the cardboard sleeve - is free to a good home, same goes for 2001 - both pristine) but no complaints there as everything's a good compliment to one of my favourite films.

This box set features the following films:

Alien (Dir. Ridley Scott) (1979): The terror begins when the crew of the spaceship Nostromo investigates a transmission from a desolate planet and makes a horrifying discovery, a life form that breeds within a human host. Now the crew must fight not only for its own survival, but for the survival of all mankind.

Aliens (Dir. James Cameron) (1986): Sigourney Weaver returns as Ripley, the only survivor from mankind's first encounter with the monstrous Alien. Her account of the Alien and the fate of her crew are received with skepticism, until the mysterious disappearance of colonists on LV-426 lead her to join a team of high-tech colonial marines sent in to investigate...

Alien 3 (Dir. David Fincher) (1992): Lt. Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) is the lone survivor when her crippled spaceship crash lands on Fiorina 161, a bleak wasteland inhabited by former inmates of the planet's maximum security prison. Ripley's fears that an Alien was aboard her craft are confirmed when the mutilated bodies of ex-cons begin to mount. Without weapons or modern technology of any kind, Ripley must lead the men into battle against the terrifying creature. And soon she discovers a horrifying fact about her link with the Alien, a realisation that may compel Ripley to try destroying not only the horrific creature, but herself as well.

Alien Resurrection (Dir. Jean-Pierre Jeunet) (1997): Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) died fighting the perfect predator. Two hundred years and eight horrific experiments later, she's back. A group of scientists have cloned her, along with the alien queen inside her, hoping to breed the ultimate weapon. But the resurrected Ripley is full of surprises for her "creators", as are the aliens. And soon, a lot more than "all hell" breaks loose! To combat the creatures, Ripley must team up with a band of smugglers, including a mechanic named Call (Winona Ryder), who holds more than a few surprises of her own.

Predator (Dir. John McTiernan) (1987): Deep inside the jungles of Latin America a team of elite commandos are being slaughtered by a mysterious predator. No longer are they the hunters, they are the prey: of an alien whose only instinct is to kill. One by one it strikes with inhuman ferocity. Now to survive, with the jungle as their only ally they face their greatest challenge: to stay alive.

Predator 2 (Dir. Stephen Hopkins) (1990): Last time it landed in the jungle. This time, it's chosen Los Angeles. Ravaged by open warfare between rival drug gangs, L.A. is the perfect killing ground for the Predator, who is drawn by heat and conflict. When the police find mutilated bodies, Lieutenant Mike Harrigan (Danny Glover) thinks it's the work of the feuding gangs. Then a mysterious government agent (Gary Busey) arrives and orders him to stay off the case. Instead, Harrigan sets out to learn what is really going on, and comes face to face with the savage alien in a climatic, electrifying confrontation...

Alien Vs Predator (Dir. Paul W. S. Anderson) (2004): It may be our planet, but it's their war! The discovery of an ancient pyramid buried in Antarctica sends a team of scientists and adventurers to the frozen continent. There, they make an even more terrifying discovery: two unstoppable alien races engaged in the ultimate battle...

Aliens Vs Predator Requiem (Dir. Colin Strause, Greg Strause) (2007): The warring alien and predator races descend on a small town, where unsuspecting residents must band together for any chance of survival.

For Christmas, my lady friend and I were going to "give" each other a road trip to Washington D.C., but we've had to put it on hold. Because of this, I'd only bought her some small, supplementary-type presents. So to make up for this, we decided to use some of the Christmas money we received to go on a little second-hand shopping spree at the local Goodwill, Marshall's, and The Exchange.

The Exchange, for those of you who don't have them, sells new and (mostly) used media; DVDs, CDs, video games, etc. Pretty good place to go for cheap used movies and discs just rare enough that you won't find them at Target or Wal-Mart. Tons of DVDs for $5, and a fair number for $2.50.

Anyway, I got the following...

http://www.horroria.com/i/nposters/00/13/1316-CO.jpg http://images.rottentomatoes.com/images/movie/coverv/51/129251.jpg http://www.dvdmoviecentral.com/images/Cover%20Art/mother.jpg http://www.spout.com/ProductImages/t22763v5yk0.jpg

That's not Aeon Flux the movie, mind you, but the complete animated series.

Less than $60 for the whole lot, and the last two were almost two-thirds of that. Love The Exchange. :)

I bought one of the more glorious DVDs anyone could buy at this time. It's technically called The Films of Michael Powell. It's a double disc set with one of my all-time fave films (and the one I've been waiting for the longest to show up on DVD), the Powell/Pressburger masterpiece, A Matter of Life and Death. The other disc is Powell's final fictional film, Age of Consent, the story of Australian painter Norman Lindsay (later retold in the equally-unclad Sirens) which not only has a great James Mason performance, but features Helen Mirren in her first film (I'd estimate that she's naked only about 5-10% of the movie).

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t203/bejmaf/powellflicks.jpg http://lancastria.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/a_matter_of_life_and_death_lancastria.jpg

The set is beautifully-packaged with gorgeous photos which aren't even on the Web yet. Marty Scorsese gives a nice intro to both films, and I realized, just from watching the bonus features, that I saw a recut and rescored version of Age of Consent which comes across as much more buffoonish than I ever thought that Michael Powell would allow, so I'm incredibly looking forward to seeing the Master's original version which will be undoubtedly more poetic that Columbia Pictures wanted 40 years ago. As far as A Matter of Life and Death goes, if you have a DVD player which allows you to watch American DVDs, this is almost too beautiful to believe.

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t203/bejmaf/ageconsentmirren.jpg

After I watch the films, I'll post my comments at You Need a Shot of Michael Powell! (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=14668) I got this double disc for $20 out the door at DVD Planet.

Did I mention before that A Matter of Life and Death might be the most romantic film ever made? Besides that, it might be the most creative and Ahead-of-its-Time flick ever made too!

Because of my lack of purchasing much in the DVD department, I haven't posted much in this thread if at all. Though, I did pick up the Frankenstein Legacy Collection yesterday for $20 and I'd like to brag about it here. It includes the original Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein, Ghost of Frankenstein, and House of Frankenstein all on 2 discs(one double sided). A fine buy.;)

You get a +rep point just for buying this UF. It took me over 20 years to finally track down a copy, then it was released on region 2 about a year later. I love it and it'd possibly make my top 100.

Had a spare gift voucher and I couldn't find these movies at any of my usual rental places so there you go.

Well, it was $13 for the two of them or $18 for the first by itself.

I found a copy of Truly Madly Deeply on a bargain table for a buck... and as I've never seen it before, I decided that was cheaper than renting it...

Let us know what you think about it. From what I've seen around here, most members haven't seen it before. It's great.

p.s. Have tissue near by.

Funny thing is that these were both on the top of my 'too buy' list, and both just seemed to be on sale this week at Best Buy. I guess I just got lucky.

Pulp Fiction - I had never seen it before. I watched it a couple of weekends ago and love it! I like Tarantino's non-linear style, which he brought in from Reservoir Dogs (I watched that for the first time last weekend).
