Children of Men is an excellent film, it's in my top 100.
That was one of my top three flicks of its year, so I'd have no problem adding it to my Top 100+ List.

Last DVD I bought: Raging Bull 2-disc Gold Edition.
Why I bought it? Simple. It's my favourite movie of all-time and I only had a cheap single disc edition with no features (besides a trailer). The gold edition has got the making of the movies, interviews and photo gallery's. Haven't seen it yet but will soon.

Just bought a triple feature Stanley Kubrick DVD. The movies are:
Full Metal Jacket
2001: A Space Odyssey
A Clockwork Orange
I got it for $19.00, all three and I consider that a strong bargain seeming that if I want to buy 2001 (newest edition) alone at JBHifi it's $18.00!

Definitely get a US version of The Beyond (the Blue Underground or Anchor Bay releases) if you can PT. Don't get the UK Vipco version (pictured), the transfer sucks and the extras are pretty much none existant. I have the EC Entertainement version (a Dutch label I think) which is pretty good, but you may find that one harder to track down.
Sorry about this but in my opinion Terror at the Opera is one of Argento's worst; especially the stupid ending. Some of the killings are pretty good, but the soundtrack sucks (laughably inappropriate heavy metal music) and the dubbing track is truly awful. Granted this can sometimes add to the charm of gialli, but here it just detracts from what should have been a classy affair. Infact barring the excellent gunshot-through-the-spyhole sequence, this is a complete waste of time. If you haven't shelled out for it already PT then save your money; or just get The Bird With the Crystal Plumage on Amazon instead.
Ferrara's Body Snatchers is pretty good though, nothing mind blowing, but pretty good forgettable fun nevertheless.:)

Plus the 2000 R1 edition of Logan's Run which I'm happy to report has a relatively decent 2.35 transfer with just a few minor blemishes.

Are the -world flicks decent price now UF? Was waiting for them to sink a bit before shelling out, maybe next payday. I hadn't got The Beyond yet, thanks for heads up! Suppose the same stands for City of the Living Dead which i have from the same company as the other pictured one. IMDB had Opera quite high and was one of the few on play.com, been eyeing up Sleepless and also if i can get hold of them - the one you mentioned, Don't Torture a Duckling and MS-45. Basically best picks of Ferrara, Fulci and Argento :)

You can buy US dvds quite cheap on Amazon now (usually £5-£7 each and the postage is around £1.25 per item). A little more expensive maybe, but for these Italian horror flicks it's well worth it because the Vipco/UK versions nearly always have crap transfers, are sometimes cut, or have limited extras (excluding The Case of the Bloody Iris and Rats Night of Terror which are quite good). This is also true of the lesser known Spaghetti western releases (if you have the Ardent Films release of Django which has some awful print damage you'll already know this).
Re Vipco's City of the Living Dead disc. That's actually one of the better Vipco releases, it has a servicable transfer and pretty decent extras, most notably commentary with Catriona MacColl which is pretty amusing, especially during the gore scenes. It's also good for Fulci enthusiasts, because she's quite candid about her experiences with him. Oh and her description of how he shot the coffin scene in which she nearly got a pick axe through her head (for real!!!) is class. I used to own this disc but now have the EC Entertainment version; I'm actually considering picking up the Vipco version again because the commentary is so much fun, so you've done pretty well there me thinks.
Ms. 45 and The Funeral are my favourite Abel Ferrara films.
For Fulci? Don't Torture A Duckling is good, but trust me get Lizard in a Woman's Skin instead (make sure it's the 2006 remastered one disc edition pictured below) something tells me you'll love the psychedelic early 70's hippy imagery. It's a brilliant giallo filmed in London, and has one of the best dubbing tracks I've ever heard. The only drawbacks are some print damage, a cut nude scene (lost footage - apparently Studio Canal owns the original negative but wont release it) and a couple of scenes that revert back to the inferior Italian audio with English subtitles (again due to lost material). I prefered this one to Don't Torture A Duckling, it puts Fulci's later horror flicks to shame.
http://www.dvdtalk.com/dvdsavant/images/2234liza.jpg
Generally my tip is to stick with US R1 Blue Underground and Anchor Bay discs though when it comes to spaghetti cinema and cult stuff. They're often unrated, have excellent picture transfers and extras compared to the UK offerings. If you're desperate though, or don't like spending lots on trashy movies, then at least check the BBFC website first to see if the film is cut in the UK (my major bugbear with horror and spaghetti westerns). I always do this now before shelling out on exploitation cinema. Also beware of cropped and full frame UK editions of 2.35 and 1.85 aspect ratios (another bug bear of mine). To sum up, it sucks to be a film collector living in the UK, and thank god for internet shopping;)

Heh cheers dude. I got the Blue Underground version of Django funnily enough with a nice bonus film i've not yet watched (it's on a tiny disc i think my PS3 would eat (if even compatible format)). Was mainly going by IMDB rating for most the ones i picked out and was looking to buy on eBay over amazon but amazon sounds a better bet! I mainly go for the Vipco cuz they're dirt cheap. I'm not technical minded enough to know about the ratios and that but obviously can appreciate whether or not it's a decent transfer.

As is my wont when I replace a DVD (a few years ago I was doing the same with VHS tapes - ooh, the speed of change! :D), I'll bung the old one off to whoever wants it or else drop it off at a local charity shop.
I handed the Wild Bunch DVD to the old dear in the charity shop a couple of days ago and her eyes lit up. "I remember that one" quoth the blue-rinsed shop assistant, "It was very good!"
I'll bet she was some girl in her day... ;)
EDIT - I'm getting a bit of a bee in my jaxie about these classic re-issues. Sure, the picture is fantastic but I wash they'd stop messing with the sound. When it's done well, a surround track made from a mono/basic stereo original is fine but all too often (such as here) it's really out of place.
It's not just a HD disc problem either because I remember the same thing with the special edition Wild Bunch DVD.

All are upgrades from vhs apart from The Magnificent Seven and Zombie Lake which are both new additions. Sadly The Addiction is full screen (as is my vhs copy, widescreen versions are very pricey), and The Man Who Fell to Earth is just the one disc edition, but for a tenner I'm not complaining.
I'm now down to around twenty or so videos (I've been giving them to charity shops) which are made up of trash horror, Woody Allen films, the hilarious Stella Street TV series (not the crappy film) and a few Laurel and Hardy compilations. The first one was because it was going for $5 and therefore was an irresistible bargain. The second, third and fourth were all part of a "3 for $25" deal at the same shop and thus I decided to pick up my own copy of Hoop Dreams (which would've cost $25 by itself anyway). Cool Hand Luke - well, it's Cool Hand Luke. I'll be damned if I don't own my own copy. Event Horizon was just a blind buy and looked rather decent - hope it is.

I had to buy Spawn. I hear it's terrible but the comic book character is so awesome that I doubt I wont get any enjoyment out of it. On the cover it says The Special-Effects Movie Event of the Year. Somehow I doubt they're that good, but I still can't wait to see it.
I figured I simply have to have a zombie movie in my collection and Dawn of the Dead is the only one I've seen. And liked.
Starship Troopers. Watched it a lot as a kid and the nostalgia kicked me in the groin and forced my hand.

Psycho is like one of the greatest films ever made, it would easily make it into my top 5. North By Northwest might be able to crack my top 10 with a re-watch, too. For some reason, though, I didn't like Vetigo as much as some other Hitchcock films I've seen. It seemed like there was just something missing from it that the other Hitchcock films had.

Great purchase. They're both two of my favorite movies.
My dad pre-ordered this on Amazon yesterday after I told him to check how much it cost and found it surprisingly cheapish. There are a bunch of extra thingamajigs, but most importantly it has all of the performances that were cut out of the original DVD. When it arrives, he's going to give me his normal copy.

http://www.dbtechno.com/images/Hulk_Bluray.jpg I only buy specific films on Blu Ray. Sometimes most films aren't worth getting on Blu Ray because sometimes the transfers aren't noticable or the film has a deliberate stylistic look that's not meant to look all shiny and new (Death Proof , This Is England). So I went to this site that pretty much gives you the ins and outs on the Blu Ray films worth buying and one of my favourite films ever got the heads up in the video and audio description. And they were right. I know it's not a well liked film, but it looks GORGEOUS on Hi Def. Almost 3D.

You can sort anyway you want. If you want to sort by the audio grade just go to audio, or the video presentation just go to video and blah blah blah. They go into proper detail too about what makes the transfers good and bad, like.

I hope you don't mind me asking N3wt, but how can you afford to buy so many dvds if you're not working?
I pick up the reduced dvds from my local supermarket I spend about £3 - £7 on films. I dont smoke, I cannot drink anymore due to the amount of medication I am on, I dont go out anywhere due to my illness. I picked up A Scanner Darkly for £2 in my local supermarket.

Wow that's one hell of a cheap local supermarket you've got. Saw V, In Bruges and Death Race are seven pounds each in my local. Still seems like you spend an awful lot of money on dvds for someone on incapacity benefit. Not that it's any of my business mind:p

Tescos? They're dirt cheap for anything over about 6 months old and my local has started a line of Blue Ray movies for 8-10 quid a pop.
I drink and smoke too much to be able to afford many. :p

My wife tells me that I have a problem with movies and I have to say I do  but the way I look at it im unable to go to the cinema to watch movies and dvds are cheap enough in asda. Yeah Saw V, is £7 but I got Death Race and In Bruges in a 3 for £10 offer.
I suppose I do spend allot on dvds per month but the way we see it is I dont get out much we dont socalise with our mates anymore due to my condition, for some reason my "Mates" dont bother coming around now after the 3 years ive been disabled.
Also I find watching movies, listening to music, audio books etc are good distraction tecniques that Ive learned from the group I went too. With my condition if your mind is off the problem for a while you'd be surprised how you dont feel the pain... It is very odd how the brain works indeed.
I dont mind you asking mate ;)

Very true. :)
I seem to spend most of my day trying not to think about pain. Stress makes things worse too (for me anyway) so the more things to help you relax the better.

Exactly the same here mate, I try not to think of the pain etc but its very difficult sometimes and if im stressed or having a bad day with depression it is 100 times worse, I try to relax the best I can like keeping my legs up to releve them but most of the time the pain is so intense I cant bare to have socks or slippers on my feet, it truely sucks.

That's fair enough, and I'm very sorry to hear about the pain you're in N3wt. As an unemployed person myself (was made redundant last year) I've recently had to put a stop to my dvd addiction due to financial woes. It's no more dvds for me until I find work; so I was just curious as to how you were managing it. :)

I bought last time 40 YR OLD VIRGIN Its great comedy shortly:
Some may say 40 year-old Andy Stitzer (Steve Carell) has it all: a great job working at an electronics store; an awesome collection of superhero figures and comic books; friendly elderly neighbours who he watches TV with; and a few cool friends. However, there's just one small problem... he's still a virgin!
Once his co-workers find out about his secret they start a mission to get Andy laid ASAP! But nothing seems to work... until Andy meets 40 year-old mother of three, Trish - a woman who doesn't want sex in her relationships!

Yea, well, okay, I'm one of the millions who decided to revisit this amazing talent after he left us and wonder why I ignored him in the 1990s when he made some great music. There's something about the finality of death I suppose that drove me to the point of obsession with obtaining as much of his music and performances I could get my hands on.
And this DVD is a favorite. To watch him in concert is a treat to behold. On the one hand, I find myself amazed at his movements, his distinctive and soulful voice, his brilliant music, while on the other hand, I am mourning the loss of his physical being and remembering the tragedy of his later life. It's a rare mixture of contradictory emotions.
Highlights: His hugging a fan during "She's Out of My Life," and the stage anti-gravity lean and imagery of "Smooth Criminal" (the video of this seen on other DVDs is also fantastic)
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51XETCZ1VFL.jpg
Highlights: The amazing group of drummers in "They Don't Care About Us," the imagery in "Earth Song," and the flat-out brilliance behind "Stranger in Moscow," both in song and imagery. I would like to youtube it here for you:
EDIT: For some reason, all the Stranger in Moscow videos have had embedded removed by request. But you can surely go there and watch. It's really amazing, imo.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqZvsUbQKxQ
I also purchased Dangerous: The Short Films:
http://www.rockmarket.ru/files/Universal%20Music/Michael-Jackson-Dangerous.jpg
Highlight: "Give in to Me" which is now one of my favorite Jackson songs. It's a rock song with Slash doing a bit of guitar. Wonderful song. CHECK IT OUT!
So, yea, the Jackson estate made a bit of money on me. This doesn't include the CDs I bought: HIStory, The Number Ones, Dangerous, Thriller 25 (I had bought the album when it came out decades ago. It was fun to revisit and heck, it's Thriller!)
RIP Michael. :(

Not so much highly underrated (but it's great) but sadly a little forgotten now. I've already got series 1 somewhere but the box set was cracking value at under a tenner.
Tacitus mate that is awesome mate I made a thread about Black Books and im trying to get more and more people into this fantastic show :yup:

I think it's weird that C4 don't seem to repeat it very often, even on their digital channels (unless I keep missing it). It's got a great cast, excellent writing and just the right balance between weird and homely.
Excellent call on Brass Eye, by the way, Brother Blue. I fancy some cake! ;D

I used to watch it when it came paramount or E4 but it only comes on once in a blue moon. But as tou have seen the boxset is cheap enough for the 3 series and its well worth the money.

Thank you. I loved it when it was on, but I haven't seen it in years.

I recently exchanged some of my rare Detroit techno collection for cash to buy dvds. This is what I got in return...

Cleopatra Jones and The Mack. Excellent buys. If you like CJ, there's another one, Cleopatra Jones And The Casino Of Gold. I remember seeing KKFOS when I was a kid and loving it, I don't know if I would now, but I suspect that I'd still think it was funny.

Once Upon a Time in the West - Special Edition
...because it's one of the best westerns ever made.
Not a big fan of westerns....yet I am inclined to agree w/ it being a good film.
