I finally got my Atmos set-up up and running, in a 5.1.2 configuration, and that means I need Atmos content to test the hell out of it...

...that also means I actually went and spent money on one of the worst films I've seen in recent times, and though mind-numbing, I can't deny the visuals and the audio experience. Top notch, mostly.

Of course, I'm talking about Transformers, and in this case the fourth one, Age of Extinction. Great for Atmos and testing home theaters in general. The first Transformers has actually been one of my most chosen demo-discs when playing with the settings on my system. Also the only truly watchable film in the franchise...

Other movies I bought:

- The Conjuring / The Conjuring 2 (both atmos)
- Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (4K, atmos) [ Iroquois :randy:]
- Mission: Impossible 1-5 (fifth film is in atmos)

I've always liked My Dinner with Andre, recently enjoyed A Master Builder (Jonathan Demme) and it's unusual mixture of 60 fps and 24 fps digital cinematography..and never saw Vanya so..I spoiled myself with the 3 pack. Gregory and Shawn always concentrate on the interesting aspects of theater. Self aware commentary on the craft fused with some obnoxious humor and disturbing themes. Or something like that anyway...

The copy I bought actually has special cover-work. I found The Fly on Blu-Ray at Wal-Mart for $7 bucks and couldn't resist the temptation. The cover-work is done up for Halloween, gives the film a "Day of the Dead" type feel. I already own the DVD, but I knew i'd be watching the film again soon and wanted to see it the best I could.

My copy of Puppet Master: Axis Termination on Blu-Ray arrived. I contributed to Full Moon's Kickstarter for the film. Their estimated arrival for the Blu-Ray to arrive was September 2015, and so, they went a little behind schedule. Nevertheless, as everyone knows, eleventh installments in low-budget horror films about killer puppets are usually where they get to the good stuff, quality wise.

I've been wanting to get Samuel Fuller's masterpiece of revenge noir for a while now, but I didn't want to dish out the $35 - $50 for the collection that the DVD that was apart of. I could have gotten a digital copy through amazon for $12, but I'm still a strong proponent of physical media. I was able to find a lone copy of it on eBay for $8.00 and free shipping, so to me it was a no brainier.

If you didn't catch my love letter (https://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=10846&page=1919) to Duke Mitchell's sleazy, 70s Godfather wannabe Massacre Mafia Style (1974): Despite all its flaws, I absolutely loved this movie. Mitchell followed up Massacre with Gone With the Pope (1976/2010). Unfortunately, unlike Massacre Mafia Style, Gone with the Pope is not streaming on amazon, so I just bit the bullet and bought the blu-ray. If you're unfamiliar with the story behind the movie, Mitchell made Gone with the Pope right after Massacre, but never finished editing it before his death in the early 80s. Film editor Bob Murawski (Army of Darkness, Spider-Man, The Hurt Locker), basically found the film in Mitchell's garage and busted out a cut of it in 2010.

Bought two DVDs today.

First one is Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I've been wanting to get but couldn't afford $25 every time I've gone by it at Walmart, but today I went to I think Dollar General and found it for $10. I couldn't pass it up!

I also found Smokey and the Bandit for $10. That one I bought as a Christmas gift for my mother, as she loves the movie!

Nothing about the DC felt tacked-on. It turns an already sizeable film into one the size of the belt I'll need by New Year, but it's still a very easy watch.

Yeah, I could easily watch a few hours more of it. Incredibly well done. Each time I watch it, I feel more invested in a different one of the three, and they seem to rotate favour. I read Robert Graysmith's book some years ago, so part of the fascination for me is watching his obsession unfold on screen.

Though an Italian production cashing in on the 70s Mafia movie craze that The Godfather (1972) spawned, Crazy Joe (1974) has an impressive American cast: Peter Boyle as the titular Joe Gallo along with Eli Wallach, Rip Torn, Fred Williamson, and Fonzie himself: Henry Winkler. Despite it never getting a Region 1 release, I've been wanting to see this movie for a while now. Someone is advertising, what has to be a bootleg DVD on ebay, but for $10, I'm willing to roll the dice on this.

Yeah, it was (and still is) very influential. It became the first Chinese-language film to win an award at the Cannes Film Festival and the first wuxia film to win at an international film festival. Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon wouldn't be a thing without A Touch of Zen for example.

Yeah, my collection needs great directors :).
The fighting looks cheesy cause it's a 17 old film. I can't control myself sometimes and I laugh too, it's funny, but also, very impressive how it was done in 1971!

Finally found a copy for less than the scalpers were asking ($150+) on eBay that wasn't a bootleg and didn't slip right out from under me before I could get it. It was still a little steep at $22 but since I had a lock on it, I thought I should go ahead and get it since I probably wasn't gonna find a better price.

I probably wouldn't have bought most of these if they weren't so cheap (under $14 for the lot). Not a very impressive haul, just building up the library. Altered States, Gosford Park and Inception are the best of the bunch but Waiting and Shoot Em Up will probably get the most play.

Saw the DVD of the 90s remake of Night of the Living Dead (1990) at Dollar General for $4, so I figured why not (Trust me, I wish I could say I was buying the newly released Criterion edition of the original Night of the Living Dead (1968). Hopefully I can snag a copy soon).

I (in this case, unfortunately) already own Robert Altman's masterpiece The Long Goodbye (1973). I was at Wal-Mart yesterday, and saw that they not only had The Long Goodbye on sale for $4.00, but the cover art on this DVD is waaaayyyy better than the one MGM put out a decade ago (which is basically just Elliot Gould walking in front of a beach). I hate endorsing Wal-Mart, but ****, this is a good deal.

I've been meaning to get Elia Kazan's Panic in the Streets (1950) for a while now. Really, it's the only decent noir shot on location in New Orleans (New Orleans After Dark (1958) is too hokey to be considered a noir, and I've still yet to see New Orleans Uncensored (1955). Though I would have loved to have seen Richard Widmark doing his Tommy Udo on the streets of the French Quarter, he's not even a criminal in this movie, playing instead a doctor working for the U.S. Public Health Service tracking down a criminal (Jack Palance plays the madman in this flick) who is infected with the bubonic plague.

I grew up in a Freddy/Michael Meyers household, so there's wasn't enough love to go around for Jason. I've seen a few Friday the 13th movies, but I'm embarrassed to say that I haven't gone through all of them. I picked up the "ultimate" 8 movie collection, but I was dissapointed to see that Jason Goes To Hell (1993) wasn't included. Thankfully, I found a Jason Goes to Hell and Jason X (2001) combo DVD pack, so if I really want to be a Jason completist, I guess I'll pick that up.

I have to say it’s the best show I have seen for a very long time. Yes, there are some great American & British tv shows around at the moment, but Gomorrah is exceptional. For me, it’s almost impossible to beat The Sopranos, but Gomorrah is of the same high quality. What it is lacking is any sense of humor, which was one of the things that made The Sopranos so wonderful to watch.
