It's a bootleg. I don't think they ever legitimately released the special. I still prefer it over the garbage they have now where Lucas essentially destroyed his initial work and the I, II, and III and VII, VIII, IX are just terrible. Unless you can get a copy of Star Wars in its original format, (which thankfully I do)... I don't think the series is worth watching.

I've loved One Piece for a long time, but I stopped watching due to the fact it went on and on. I'm waiting for the series to end and then I can do a marathon of reading the manga and then watching the anime.

I heard rumors of this, but never actually saw it before. I looked it up and tried to watch it, and I couldn't stomach it. After five excruciating minutes of people in wookie costumes grunting and groaning like cave men, I started skipping to various parts to see if it improved. Unfortunately I found the scenes with Luke, Han, Leia, and the Imperials almost equally aweful. Only the Boba Fett cartoon was watchable, but even that wasn't particularly good.
Have you seen Caravan of Courage and Battle for Endor?

I remember watching Caravan of Courage and Battle for Endor... but it's been a loooooong time since I've seen them. As for the Star Wars Holiday Special... all those reasons you hate it is why I love it. The whole movie to me is so bad that I find it rather humorous. It's like The Room or Plan 9 From Outer Space or Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. It's wonderful. Plus if I can drink George Lucas' tears in some way it makes me happy and gives me superpowers.

I can appreciate that. The whole thing made me feel really bad for the actors. It was just so impossible to wrap my mind around someone taking the time to write this, it getting approved, and then building a set, hiring actors, having a film crew... How can all those people sit there and watch this happening while they're making it. I'd have thrown the script in the garbage. "You have thirty pages of people grunting and motioning with their hands..." It reminds me of a really bad children's show, like Barney or something. Where it's presumably educational, but it's stupifying at the same time.

Now I want to watch the whole interview. I have enjoyed that interviewer before, he's very thorough and asks great questions. He lets the person he's interviewing talk, and directs them to interesting meaningful discussion. I forget his name though, but I really liked his interview with Jennifer Lawrence, and Quentin Tarantino. I really feel sorry for George Lucas. Who says, "I'm a great ____." Okay, he thinks he's a great dad, great. But do other people say that about him? That trembling lip over not getting an Oscar for Star Wars. I feel really bad. I've made fun of him in the past, but now I just feel sorry for him.
I got mad at a couple of clerks at a comic book/hobby shop because they were attributing things that other artists did in the Star Wars expanded universe to George Lucas as if he was more brilliant than Tolkien when it comes to world building. As if George Lucas invented everything about Manadlorians, when George Lucas didn't even care about Boba Fett as a character, let alone develop a thorough backstory for all his random minor characters. He couldn't even write a half decent back story for his main characters, look how he butchered Anakin and Obi-Wan's backstory.
I used to be a huge Star Wars fan. I used to watch the original trilogy 2-3 times a year. I've seen them at least 25 times. I used to roleplay on Star Wars forums, and in Star Wars games. But I haven't the original trilogy in about six years. The last two times I tried to watch The Empire Strikes Back, I turned it off shortly after the first act. I can't seem to enjoy them very much anymore. All I notice are flaws, incessant flaws.
I can't even say that the original trilogy were particularly good movies. Entertaining, sure, but they have this "family" quality. There's no horrors of war, no gruesome violence, the dialogue isn't particularly deep or meaningful. There's no poetry, no art. Just cool space ships, lasers, Storm Troopers, and lightsabers. Those things are just stuff, they don't make a movie good. To me a movie is only as good as its substance and its artistry.
I remember how Alec Guinness talked about Star Wars, and some of the hints he gave of things that happened behind the scenes. For example, Lucas wanted to call the lightsabers "laser swords," and it was Guinness who suggested changing the name to something that didn't sound as silly. There were quite a few changes to the script that Guinness suggested, and he commented on a significant portion of the script needing to be altered. Then there's also the case of early footage being very boring, and they had to make significant changes to the movie. It was almost a disaster, and there's a good reason he wasn't allowed to direct Ep. V and VI, and they turned out better with him being less involved. When he had full control, we saw how much of a disaster the prequel trilogy turned out. I've heard that he sold Star Wars to Disney out of spite towards the fans for liking the Star Wars movies that the studio interfered with more than ones he made.
I couldn't stand the changes he made to the original trilogy. He made the Sarlaac look stupid, and he dubbed over the original Boba Fett actor's voice, just to name a couple that I particularly disliked. To me that's just disrespectful toward the original actor. I loved the original actor's voice. I was always a Boba Fett guy. When I was a kid and I saw Star Wars for the first time, I was mesmerised by Boba Fett. His death was a little heartbreaking, but it didn't deter how awesome he was. There was something very humbling about the fact that he died. I didn't care that they revived him in the books. Either way he is the perfect epitome of a cold calculating killer. I love Star Wars, but now it feels more like nostalgia than anything else.
I'm watching the full interview, and it just got to the part where he said, "I was a great dad." It wasn't him saying that he was. It was him responding to being asked, "What do you want the first line of your obituary to say." And he said, "I was a great dad... or I tried." And then he laughed. It wasn't a sad, lonely, pathetic moment at all. Actually so far I'm liking the interview. Lucas has a pretty good understanding of art in general, and not too bad a perspective of his own work on the original Star Wars. I think I'm getting a little more sympathy for him, a bit more of a moderate perspective.
Wow, 27 minutes in Lucas starts talking about his low opinion of his movies. He says Star Wars was terrible, but everyone told him it was great. He talked about how when he watches it, all he can see are the flaws, and the scotch tape and rubber bands holding everything up. I did not know he had this much self-awareness. I'm actually starting to respect the guy. I don't think I feel sorry for him anymore.
Here's the full interview.

What does George Lucas have to say about his greatest film American Graffiti?
He said he did it in response to his friend, another filmmaker, challenging him to do a comedy. He also said it turned out fairly well, and he got a fair amount of academic praise for it, and awards.
He said it was a more artistic film that he didn't expect anyone to care about.
I haven't seen it myself.
It's been on my watch list forever.

Yes I know this is a terrible film, and one would question why anyone would want to voluntarily watch it, (let alone own it)... But, this is "the" film when I was a child that got me "hooked" on cinema. I was obsessed with Tommy Lee Jones' character as "Two-Face." I must have bought every single "Two-Face" item and accessory when I was a child. Practically every day I'd drag my poor parents to see this film when it was in theaters, and when it was starting to leave the main "theater circuit," I requested that my parents take me to see it in theaters way on the outskirts of practically deserted towns where said theaters were last on call to get a "big budget" picture... for a film such as this, (and to relive my childhood even more), it was an easy decision to own this film on VHS.

Taoism Drunkard DVD
I've been looking for this film for years! It ran under the title of "Taoism Drunkard" and "Drunken Wu Tang," but damned if you searched for either of these titles you could find it as the right one. Apparently there is a lot of other kung fu cinema that runs under the same name! Eventually I downloaded a copy of this film and ripped it as my own personal "bootleg." (Which believe me, I hated doing, I really like getting things legitimately). Well, with all that said, this finally came in today, and much to my happiness, it's the right film. Now I can trash that bootleg, finally!

I don't particularly care for The Wind Rises, it seems evident in the film that Miyazaki is running out of steam. It's not a bad film by any stretch, it's decent. But some of the magic of some of his earlier works seems lost in this film.

It's not so much the "realism" to it that I find lacking, (as a matter of fact it breaks into the fantastic quite often). But I find that the narrative itself was rather dry. It just doesn't "move" as much as his other pictures. All other Miyazaki films have this wonderful flow and pace, you often forget your immersed inside a complete fairy tale. But with The Wind Rises, I find the narrative moves at a snails pace. Like you said, it's not for everyone. But this is my main upset about it. I do have it, so I'll give it another go sometime, just not my favorite work of his.

Indeed! I purchase DVDs, as a matter of fact they are as a rule for my mum (she has a remarkable assortment), however I do purchase (or get) DVDs for myself.
In spite of the fact that I use things like Netflix and Prime, you don't get everything on there, and I like to keep my DVDs available to me, not to make sure I'm not constrained to spilling administrations, yet in addition so I don't need to depend on the web.
I realize I need power to play a DVD, however you needn't bother with WIFI, so it limits on what I have to watch something as basic as a film. That, and I can watch it on the TV, not on the PC.
I comprehend that individuals figure DVDs will be outdated one day, and I do concur, however I don't think it'll be at any point in the near future, not until everything is 100% on the web and it's not anyplace close to being that way.

I get the feeling that later seasons will be much better than what I've seen so far.
Oh yeah, definitely a good set. The subsequent seasons were technically better than the first season, but since you don't quite appreciate the conspiratorial landscape yet, the first is more of a discovery process.

Nice cover.
My nephew is not an anime fan. I think it's more a clique thing at school though, being a rural south kind of thing. I'm not sure he's ever seen anything except for Dragon Ball Z type stuff or whatever plays now on cartoon stations. I'm kinda surprised he's not into that one though. I've been tempted to make him watch Akira, but it still may be too early for him to take that on. He's good with adult content and violence, just I mean length and animation style. It does have an 80s feel to it and I think that may throw him off not being a fan to begin with. I thought maybe Samurai Champloo, or at least a few select episodes. I'm not sure he would sit through a full length movie ...yet. Unless it was just out of this world, from his perspective. Poor kid. I was watching Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind younger than he is now! What's this kid's problem!?

I saw over on reddit the Friday the 13th Blu-ray Collection came out... don't get me wrong, I'm probably going to get it... but honestly I've been sniping those films via eBay to get the set on a VHS transfer. Those films just do so much better on a VHS than a DVD or Blu-ray... 80's/90's films look better in 80's/90's quality stock.

She was HUGE on GOT. Talented & beautiful. I’ve seen her in one or two things: nothing worth mentioning.
I spent a little more than I should have on the director's cut of Richard Stanley's Dust Devil. There is an under 90-minute cut of the movie on Amazon Prime, but the director claimed he had nothing to do with it, so I want nothing to do with it as well. That's how much of a movie geek I've become.

For whatever it's worth, I really enjoyed the series. It's a prequel, of sorts, but doesn't quite align with what I remember of the movie. The series was gorgeous though, mixing both practical puppetry and CGI effects very well. Story arcs were more an ensemble set and felt modern and faster (?) compared to the movie. There was more world building too, if I remember correctly. As good as any other televised drama currently out as far as writing goes, but with puppets!
I believe Netflix decided not to create a follow-up season, which is unfortunate IMO. Still, I feel it's worth the watch for any fan of the movie or for anyone who is in need of a single season run of something that's not easily distracted by fantasy/sci-fi chacters.

Out of convenience, I have been buying my films digitally. The more I’m getting into film and learn to appreciate it, the more I found myself wanting to start a collection. So I decided to buy six films from the criterion collection to start off with a bang. Since this was my first haul, I wanted to acquire some of the greatest films from the best directors in the world. I ended up purchasing:
•Stalker by Andrei Tarkovsky
•Tokyo Story by Yasujiro Ozu
•8 1/2 by Ferico Fellini
•Hakakiri by Masaki Kobayashi
•Tree of Life by Terrence Malick
The sixth film I wanted to get was Persona by Ingmar Bergman but it was sold out atm.

The great thing about buying disks is that a lot of them are so cheap. My latest was a set of a dozen WW II movies, including From Here to Eternity, Fury and Anzio, bought for 12 bucks. I like watching movies on disk sometimes. There's some completely psychological comfort in being off-line, even though that seems stupid, and, they're cheap enough to be an inconsequential purchase.

A three pack of Richard Pryor movies including car wash, see no evil, hear no evil, and stir crazy. I really bought it for stir crazy because I've already seen the other two, but didn't own them. Sadly, stir crazy is not a great movie. From what I've read, it seems he was free basing the entire time until the wee hours of the morning, then showing up in a state that wasn't categorized as crisp.
Today I bought two box sets on blu ray. I got Tony Curtis Collection, which has 40 Pounds of Trouble, The Great Imposter, and The Perfect Furlough. I also got the Deanna Durbin Collection, which has 100 Men and a Girl, 3 Smart Girls Grow Up, and It Started With Eve.
Today I went to Giant Tiger and bought 2 dvds and 4 blu rays. I got:
Airplane and Airplane 2 blu ray
Billy Madison blu ray
Fences blu ray
Primal Fear blu ray
Get on Up dvd
He Said, She Said dvd

Yes! I buy DVDs, admittedly they are usually for my mum (she’s got quite the collection), but I do buy (or receive) DVDs for myself.
Although I use things like Netflix and Prime, you don’t get everything on there, and I like to keep my DVDs at my disposal, not just so I’m not limited to streaming services, but also so I don’t have to rely on the internet.
I know I need electricity to play a DVD, but you don’t need WIFI, so it narrows down on what I need to watch something as simple as a film. That, and I can watch it on the telly, not on the laptop.
I understand that people think DVDs will be obsolete one day, and I do agree, but I don’t think it’ll be anytime soon, not until everything is 100% online and it’s not anywhere near to being that way.

I'm still trying to figure out where I want to move to... I used to love the United States, but it's been taking a dive for sometime now. I thought of moving to Australia, (as I think I'd like the weather), but its heavy on censorship laws as far as I know. I'd like to go to Finland, but its way too cold. I thought of going to Italy or Southern France, (because of their artistic beauty), but having relatives who live over there, they're going through things too. So then I find myself back where I started... accepting fate and realizing there is no place on Earth that's more or less "better" than the next, (to some subjective and other objective degrees.)

A Holy Grail of 90's Space and Time...
EDIT:
My cinephilia is actually kind of a problem. I've been going from goodwill to goodwill on an almost daily basis because I'm under the most dreadful notion that there is a "run on VHS" 📼🏃🏃🏃 And when I didn't have the 49¢ I needed to afford the VHS copy of "Ben-Hur" it kinda sent me into a bit of a panic and worried that it'd be gone by the next time I stopped in there... wouldn't you know it though? A week later I stop in and such suspicions I had were incorrect! It was still there!
Also spent I don't know now much money on gas going down to the next town over only to find that there selection boiled down the the John Goodman’s live-action "The Flintstones" VHS... and unless that's also coming in bundle with that horrid Arnold Schwarzenegger ruse "Jingle All the Way" for 49¢... I think I'll pass...

There's a children's book that I had when I was little titled, Dinner Time. Each page was a pop-up of an animal or whatever opening its mouth. I loved that book and wore it out. I still have it and every few years I'll open it up and giggle like my five year old self.

It's The Mothman Prophecies, of course the one with Richard Gere, Will Patton and Laura LInney, not any of the purported documentaries. In addition to movies, I like weird stuff and the actual story of the supposed Mothman is definitely among my favorites, one that I already knew well, so I could not, not have a copy of this along with my other weird stuff.
The movie, of course, condenses a whole bunch of events into a 90 minute movie that, in spite of being condensed, is rather slow moving and quiet. That's OK because these characters, being composite characters with a lot of crypto-zoological experiences, are at the end of their wits and don't do much running and screaming that usually comes in a movie like this. In case you are not sure, the bridge collapse in the real Mothman afflicted Point Pleasant really DID happen and the movie does that well, so for those late nights when I need something that mildly creeps me out and I don't want it to be loud, this needs to be on my shelf.
It is.

Great stuff. Did you know there would be pop-up treats?
I did not, hence my childlike glee.
And I was also a pop-up enthusiast as a youngster. I might have had the same book you're describing. I was the type of kid that had to figure out how stuff worked, so I was fascinated with the mechanism of it all. Even tried to make some of my own. A few of them even worked.

I think I'll pass...
ahhh bringing back the memories of windows 95 :p

I found these at a garage sale last weekend. They were marked $1 each, but I got a bargain at $2 for all three movies. :)

Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky and Witchfinder General. They're not streaming anywhere, I really want to see them and I had an Amazon gift card burning a hole in my pocket.

This one arrived yesterday. Haven't had a chance to watch anything yet, but from a packaging standpoint I'm thrilled. The 50+ page booklet is pretty much a mini-biography.
Also, I can't say that I ever needed the Castle of the Living Dead soundtrack on CD, but hey why not?
