Some girl once stole my pencil or pen and I tried for two days to get it back and she kept teasing me about it. I gave up. I think that's why I quit buying them; people would take them and not return them, so what was the point?

I had a perfect system for the whole "writing utensil" conundrum in school; I never bought a single one vis I found them on the floor, and I never used them because I never took notes because I didn't need to take notes, and when someone would ask to borrow one, I'd happily hand the person one of the many I had found, and wouldn't worry about getting it back because I both rarely used them and never paid for them so I would never be out money.
