Good point, but superhero films have also been a trend for at least 1.5 decades and I've still yet to see much evidence to the genre that they're very good or great entertainment (generally). Also, while I'm not the biggest action film fan out there, I think some action films released in the past decade, like Mad Max: Fury Road, 1917, All Quiet on the Western Front, and Everything Everywhere All At Once (I might be missing a couple) received a great deal of positive reception when they were released and, for the most part, weren't dismissed as mindless, disposable entertainment.

I agree. I think Kurosawa is a great example of what you are getting at. I would say modern cinephiles consider him an art house director but his movies have definite mass appeal as far as content.

This argument just always, for me, comes down to a bewilderment that people don't think all these movies can coexist. It's very hard for me to see that Marvel is keeping other types of movies from being made when we are inundated with every genre you can think of year after year.
Anyone available to put an ice pick in my head? Anyone?

We aren’t suggesting these directors were making the mainstream movies of the 60’s and 70’s are we?
No. I think Mr Minio's point is that the homogenization of film with the current superhero trend isn't reflected in Kaiju's, Spaghetti Westerns, and Giallos. While I'm not as experienced in those genr s as Minio is, I would assume, I find the filmmaking of those films to be far more interesting and clever than Marvel's films. To the point that comparing those genres to superhero films feels like minimizing them.

If a certain type of movie quits getting made, is Scorcese still getting $200 mil to make his movies.

People have every right to deride a certain film, but it reminds me of the tolerant person dilemma. Just make sure you agree with me or I’ll get intolerant real quick.

Would that have anything to do with the posting glitches? You can format a somewhat lengthy review such as space out your text and make paragraphs and so forth. But once you post it or try and preview it they go back to one large clump of text.
This was the result of me trying to fix an issue with the editor last night/this morning. It should be back to normal now (might require a hard refresh). Sorry about that.

Unrelated to the reboot, either way.
I have also made it a habit to copy my post to my clipboard (just a rapid ctrl-a /ctrl-c) before I hit the post button, just in case. So, even if the site goes down hard, I can just snap Word open and save the post for a later time.

I'd take any Kaiju, Spaghetti Western, or Giallo over a Marvel film. Even if cheap and made for a quick buck, those films were shot on film and often had interesting filmmaking ideas behind them. Marvel is digital blasphemy that poisons the good well of cinema. Sure, there's a sort of nurture where you can get used to Marvel's low standard, but then again, you can get used to pretty much anything. And then you have James Gunn who makes palatable Marvel films but who is Gunn compared to auteurs such as Ishii, Suzuki, Corbucci, Sollima, Honda, Bava, Argento...
