In general, old movies focused more on the story and character development than many movies do today. After the new generation of directors who cut their teeth making music videos began making feature films, they utilized filming techniques that emphasized style, camera technique and fast editing over the older story telling method. The French had a term for that older cinema style, tradition de qualit�. Of course those kind of films are still made just not as common...That's why I love old movies especially mid 20th century films, they feel more personal to me.
