I was at the electronic stores earlier today looking at the television sets. The service was awful both places I went, so I just said screw it...
After all, I was only semi-serious about it and I kind of needed someone to come up to me to actually make me consider it. That's their loss

This is why I hate buying electronics even more than cars. Cars only depreciate if you drive it off the lot, but electronics depreciate as soon as you click add to cart.

I can see myself buying a 4k monitor quicker than I buy a 4k TV, the reason being the amount of native 4k content out there.
My rural fibre probably won't be able to stream 4k so I'll be reliant on discs, and there aren't many of them yet.
Then HDR will be a thing to factor into a TV purchase. Then I'll probably have to think about opgrading my surround system when Dolby ATMOS come on song.

Yeah, but that part about laying a lot of money and then you'll see it drop to about half price - that's how it will always be... and with everything you buy.
When these OLEDs drop, then there will be a better display, which might have some new standard you just have to have.
But I agree, OLEDs are insane right now, but the "price drop" still intriuges me. It dropped to half price now, but unfortunately it just went from extremely insane to just a little insane. But still insane...

This is the problem. I had friends who bought a 50" Bravia a few years ago for £1000.
I bought a much better 50" Bravia in January for £590, and I'd expect the same TV or equivalent model to be £499 next year.
But, hey, who am I to give advice? I bought a graphics card for my PC last year for £620. The same ones are selling now for £349.
If the price seems affordable to you, then it's a good deal. OLEDs aren't anywhere near what I'd want to drop on a TV yet.

I bought a new TV a few months ago, fully aware that it's just a stopgap until 4k OLED becomes actually affordable.
Anyways, the 55" are hella cheap, but I need that 65" and the cheapest right now is $4,500...
