Singin' in the Rain

It's not like I'm going to start suddenly seeking out musicals; I just think this was a special movie. There's not many movies that bring on such a good feeling.
glad you liked it. i was the same way, as i had never sought out musicals or really thought i'd be that interested in one

i think one thing that helps elevate this one is that Gene Kelly makes dancing look like a sport. like he's an athlete performing at an elite level yet looks effortless, almost like watching Michael Jordan in his prime type thing

all-time great movie, and in my estimation there is little doubt

Rodent-I agree with you completely; Prisoners is a really strong film. Except Paul Dano was one of the strongest pieces to the puzzle for me.

Matteo-Glad to see your Killer Joe opinion as that's a movie that seems to divide people. I love it, it was an instant favorite.

Notromo87-I like the Michael Jordan analogy-right on!

Mona Lisa

The second great British film and Bob Hoskins performance I've seen this week(The Long Good Friday). I found the story to be very interesting.

Willow (Ron Howard, 1988)

After giving up hope of seeing this one make the 80's countdown, I decided to rewatch this childhood favorite. While I enjoyed it for its high cheese factor and nostalgia, it quickly became apparent that the 7 year old me had a much, much higher tolerance for fantasy than the nearly 33 year old me does.

Pacific Rim

Giant robots going head to head with giant monsters.

Visually and erm, actionery, actioni... actionif... actionally, it's everything Transformers and Godzilla want to be.

Story wise, a bit lacking... it's all about the 'bots striking a pose while they smash, and get smashed by, giant creatures with blue spit.

Idris Elba is best on show... as always he plays it very well.
Everyone else though, pretty wooden.
Especially crap British Soap Opera actor Robert Kazinski, who seems to allow his accent go from American to Australian to cod British to something that sounds reminiscent of South African to something I think he made up, within the space of a few lines of dialogue.

And I have no idea what kind of character the other crap British Soap Opera actor, Burn Gorman, was trying to portray.

If any other director had made it, it would be regarded as surprisingly good, maybe even decent, but from the likes of Guillermo Del Toro? This feels a bit rushed in the writing department. I'd have expected a bit more from him in the story stakes.

Still, in a good way it feels like a throwback to the epic disaster films and monster features of the olden days... just this time round the SFX are absolutely outstanding and the action sequences are highly polished.

Simply a popcorn smash'em up... needed a little bit more in the writing dept. to make me really care about the characters.

American Graffiti

I didn't quite love it as much as I hoped, but it is plenty enjoyable with a great vibe. The music, cars, and Wolfman Jack are some highlights.

The Sting

Very well crafted movie with Newman, Redford, and Shaw all doing their thing. Highly enjoyable, yet fell just short of greatness for me.

Finished here. It's been fun.
Tokyo Story-
. Simple,poignant and extraordinarily beautiful.

++ Solid gangster flick with a great over the top performance by James Cagney. Nothing to spectacular, but it was pretty entertaining.

Finished watching Wall-E this morning. What a film. Emotional, fun, cute, relate-able. Absolutely loved it.

The Lego Movie.

8/10

It was surprisingly good. I thought it was only going to be for kids but I laughed a lot.

Finished here. It's been fun.
Something else in the film is worth a
though, am I right?

You can say that again hehehe. My favorite scene of the movie.

Have seen it many times but I the last movie I watched was North by Northwest (1959), one of Hitchcock's most fun movies, with two of the great actors (with the greatest voices) in cinema, Cary Grant and James Mason, leading the pack in this thrilling romp.
