The Shoutbox
Yeah, that sounds like something I'd do, too. I have in fact.

I'd be working with friends and I'd be all "don't deviate or improvise". And as soon as they did I'd stop everything and be like "you know what you did. Let's go again."
I'm generally too much of a control freak to collaborate well with others. Taking criticism on a work in progress is another matter. Just I find it very difficult to work with others (musically) unless there are clear lines of roles. I mean, I'm good to follow direction under another's lead but if I'm writing whatever, I want others in support roles rather than a creative partnership. If that makes sense.

When I was younger I used to drive my friends to anger in the few cover bands we had. I was the guy always saying, "No. You're flat. And that's supposed to be an A. Not an E." To be fair, I beat the living daylights out of myself much more than I ever did with others. So there's that, I guess.

Almost always, I would agree. Otherwise, everything is stuck on one person's creative direction, there is no push-pull, and nothing to keep potentially weaker ideas in check or in perspective.
Also, Firehouse Subs. mmmmmm

I mean, I have a lot to say. Just nothing anyone wants to hear.

It ain’t short when you trying to compose the **** and think of stuff to say: 3 minutes is like an eternity.

A lot of pop/rap songs have fallen under 3 minutes. But like, most of the stuff in my own music library is 1.5-2 minutes long. I love me some 50s blues and folk songs.

I guess the dude I used to write tunes with in our band and myself...we had a lot to say? A lot of our tunes were over 5 or 6 minutes long. I think I showed you one or two of them in the past. He was really talented with arrangement, though.
Cheers to Jack Nicholson on his birthday!
