Have you seen Nocturnal Animals?

I enjoyed it but the friends I went with did not.
Yes, I really, really enjoyed that. It’s was a rare ending where I went, ‘Hell, yeah.’

I know I am. I’ve seen 38 of the films on the shortlists.

Great example of the film with a vast difference in quality when comparing the theatrical and director's cuts...

That’s quite the response though. I’d be happy with that. When I tend to bring people along to watch ‘my type of movie, not theirs’, it tends to end badly for me. They criticise it, or take the opposite side than I do, and I get upset. Not that I really go into it, but I’ve had a great many films I initially loved ruined for me in this way.

Looking more and more like last year was an anomaly, as once again this year most of the (most likely) BP contenders don't interest me. I liked a large majority of the films last year, but I have a feeling I will have trouble working my way through the entire list this time around.

Yeah, I used to do this, or attempt it, anyway, but I no longer want to watch something I have zero interest in just because it might get an Oscar. Looking at you, ‘Wicked’, ‘The Piano Lesson’ et al.

I never cared either about the Oscar contenders. I watched whatever I want to see, whether up for an Oscar or not.
Exactly. To be fair, I was only doing it because I do try to broaden my horizons. It seems myopic to only watch what I think I’m bound to like. But these days I’m somewhat descending into that.

I watch pretty much anything except American Comedies. I will watch some but not a great many. Depends on the type of humor.
