I had to decide how I was really going to use the new laptop. MOST of the time a Chromebook would have been enough. But every so often I need to use InDesign while on vacation (doing the church bulletin from afar, for instance) or want to use Scrivener.

And the Asus was really inexpensive so I let that be the deciding factor. The good news is that the older MacBook Pros I'll be selling on eBay (two!) will net me enough money to pay for the Asus.

...mostly.
U mean Nay'Suh?

Yeah, as long as you don't need to use a lot of apps (Office, or other work stuff), Chromebooks are fine.

I hear Shredder is a fan.
Chromebooks are, generally, more secure due to how they receive updates. Good choice

I considered a Chromebook but then realized some of what I need/want to do with a laptop involves various apps/programs that don't work on a Chromebook, including InDesign, Scrivener, and other writing-related stuff. So I opted for a low-end Windows 10-based laptop.

Acer's a decent brand at a great price. Have had at least once and did well with it.
Ah, nice, think my wife has or had one of those. Not amazing but very solid machines, especially given how affordable they usually are.
