I don't think there is any way to be fair and balanced on pop music.
The 60's music that is technically pop seems to have more substance than each following decade.

Pop music in the '70s and even '80s at least seemed like different songs with different voices. Today's pop just seems to run together as one long annoying, shrill *thing* instead of actual music.
But perhaps I am just old.
Punk was a revolt against prog, grunge a revolt against hair metal...I'm expecting another revolution.
