A similar thing happened to me back in 1999 -- although I didn't hit it smack-on and didn't damage the car. A deer ran into the street from the woods and ran *alongside* my car for a while, which freaked me out. I couldn't slow down (cars behind me) so I kept hoping she'd just run back into the woods. Instead she ran into the side of my car, like she was trying to shove ME off the road. Then she finally ran back into the woods, hopping over a guard rail to do it.

I got to work and saw no damage to the side of my car, but found all this deer fur stuck to the door. (It was early morning and the car still had dew on it.)
