I remember that episode of Different Strokes. Arnold met a kid and asked why he had a key on his belt. The kid made a reference to being a latch-key kid (jokingly), pulled the key which was tethered to a retractable string, and then released it. The key slapped back against his belt loop. He joked that his mom was worried about him being alone all afternoon while she worked or something.
