KQ is actually a pretty good hand, considering they are A) connected and a decent start at a straight, and B) two over cards that, even if faced with a starting pair by your opponent, doesn�t put you behind much unless they have a pocket ace (which he did, unfortunately) but even against low pairs, the percentage isn�t that wildly against you, where if you hit a K or Q, or even both, in the flop, you�re ahead.
