Yes, me likeum Noir.
I'm going to e-mail you about some stuff later Holden, just letting you know now. You're a noir fan, right?
I'm also looking forward to Scotland, PA, a dark comedy White Trash take on Macbeth, starring Christopher Walken, James LeGros, Maura Tierney and Andy Dick. Sounds like it could be fun.
A Thousand Acres (1997), adapted from Jane Smiley's novel, was the last decent modernization of King Lear. The movie wasn't the best translation of the book, but Smiley's incestual take on the material is interesting. Jason Robards was excellent in the flick, as usual.
There is a modern Noirish version of Macbeth: Men of Respect (1991), starring John Turturro. Not bad. The ending doesn't quite work, but the first 3/4 are quite good.
Funny that you bring up King Lear, Hold's.
I was looking through the plays today, thinking about which one I may like to make a modern and/or noir-ish version of, and that was one that really popped up. The other was Macbeth.

But that's not my great idea idea.
I'm still working on my experimental no budget Indie Film idea though. In fact, now that I think about it, I may be getting in contact with some of you MoFo's regarding it...
