Wow, people are gettin' real outta line here, could we stop talking about sandwiches? That's such a polarizing subject matter. My father's side of the family has depended on deli meats for generations now, and my mother's side of the family only knows how to eat PB&J, can we bring some civility to the discussion here?
Yeah, Russia acts the exact same way it always did. But there is no way to talk about that without bringing up politics or at least lots of history smudged in politics. I'm not doing that in view of Yoda's plea to not talk about politics anymore.
As far as the war goes, all you folks who live in a NATO country do not really have to worry. Russia attacking any NATO country would mean a war with the entirety of NATO. One can imagine how well would Russia fare in such a war given how they do against Ukraine alone (admittedly, with lots of help from the West but still alone).

For the record, whether or not other countries broke Geneva Conventions in the past does not matter when discussing the contemporary conflict. Whataboutism of this kind is an oft-used one, historically. As a matter of fact, "And you are lynching Negroes" was a popular retort in the Soviet Union.
Fear is a natural reaction. After all, Russia has nuclear weapons. But even Russia's name for the mobilization of nuclear weaponry is called a deterrent. Historically, nuclear weapons were used to rather wreak fear than wreak havoc. Yes, there are still some dregs of a chance that Putin will decide to resort to a nuke, but there's hope that his subordinates will finally stand up to him in such a case. After all, it's totally unreasonable to risk a nuclear war over Ukraine. I'd definitely stop worrying (I know it's easy to say...). If nukes won't be used, there's little reason for fear. If they will, there soon won't be any reason for fear.

As someone who studied Russia in college I am far more informed about the internal specifics than the average citizen. These current events are very much on point for Russia within a historical context, and I will agree with you that the news ain't balanced. But when was it ever?

To Mr Minio: so far I haven’t been able to switch my brain into meditation mode to appreciate YouTube videos or my garden or hot chocolate. You know, at first I was saying the same thing to my hysterical relatives, ie chill out and be grateful you’re not there. Then I came into the office last Tuesday and the CEO said in my face “See you next week, please don’t invade”. He did apologise, but everyone seems to think that’s totally cool. I see the same attitude below.
