The Shoutbox
I do miss flipping burgers. While parts of that job felt like chores, it was a fun job and it was clear what the responsibilities were. Aside from a few drive-ins that would come in 5 minutes before closing to order things we'd already stopped cooking 20 minutes earlier, there were never really any unknown stress triggers.

Well, one time a ceiling tile fell down during cleanup, after we had closed for the night. The manager thought someone was up there waiting for us to leave to rob the place so she called 911. When they arrived, we opened the door to a huge cop with a shotgun in hand. Greeting a gun was stressful, but fun. We never had a situation where a client called in an hour to close demanding we bake 20 pizzas. We didn't make pizzas. But I'm constantly asked to do things I've never even heard of before now. That can be fun. I guess. But in the moment and during, not so much.

That's been my experience. You kinda worded that pretty good actually.

True, but this is still one of Sedai's more agreeable opinions.
You guys have completely destroyed the 4+ years of admiration I've built for you.

Will Ferrell not your style?

Or Will Ferrell is trash?

I find the people who get promoted are the ones who are best friends with the managers. Is that their goal or do they genuinely like hanging out with them? They act like they do, anyway.

What I've learned: never throw your back out (figuratively or literally) working for a company because you think they might recognize your efforts. Don't spend more time on work than what you're paid for. Do a good job but don't overexert yourself or worry about getting people to like you. If it happens it happens, but the ones who try hardest to get promotions usually don't receive anything. It's the people who AREN'T really trying who get them, simply because the managers noticed them/bonded with them. So it literally all depends on personality combinations.
My experiences have shown that all type of personalities and traits get promoted. As far as I know, most jobs are "for the time being" filled by a human making a decision. To err is human

+1,000,000

Everyday, every task is a potential audition. Anyone that believes "I'll work hard when I get paid to", won't ever have to worry about.

Insert cliche "work like you have the job you want" .
