Yeah, the only PC games I play these days is abandonware
just hop into Starcraft II or D2 Resurrection! All you'll ever need.
Well, most of my games have to be dialed down at least a bit to play, but for the most part, they run well enough, Oddly, what has been giving me fits lately, is the online version of GTA V, which is a years old game! The online version, especially when the server is full, can bring my CPU to its knees if shit starts popping off with multiple players creating chaos. I run a hardware monitor and my poor little CPU takes a knee pretty fast. Assassin's Creed Odyssey can hammer it pretty badly also, as it's another massive world and when a things start to get crazy gameplaywise, my CPU tanks into the red then, as well. Recent 4x games give it fits, too.
So here’s the most important question: what game is giving you problems that made you say “ah shit, it’s time”?
Yep. That curve flattened off quite a bit. I remember thinking around 2015 or so I would need to get a new chip and board any day...here we are in 2021, almost 2022 when i am finally going to do it.
Yeah, my 1155 build was an Ivy Bridge: E3-1230v2

Remember the days when you had to update your CPU every 3-4 years? Crazy how good stuff is these days

SO BAD. My GPU is 3-4 years old, but no way am I forking out cash for a new one these days, if I could even find one.

But re: 1155 - You can say that shit again. I got ELEVEN years out of this sandy bridge rig, which just seems insane to me.

@Cringefest - the plan is to replace Mobo/CPU/RAM and the cooler. Waiting for Black Friday deals!

I turn off all sorts of service and features as well. Check out Windows Debloat script when you get a chance. It's pretty awesome.

Anyway - not really worth the time/money for whatever tiny gains I would get from a 10 year old chip that someone might have spilled chocolate milk on. Gimme those new parts right nao!
You can't really replace the processor without changing the mobo and ram anyways, now THAT'S the kicker...
You can if it's the same socket. He wouldn't be so screwed if he had waited for 1150 or 1151.
Yeah but you gotta be careful about unsupported hardware
