Top 25 Favourite Movies

Tools

I thought it would be nice to view everyone's top 25 favourite movies, to see who has the same favourites as me, or maybe some favourites I haven't seen or even heard of. If 25 is too much for you then just a top 10 or 15 would do. Just to get an idea of who's posting the list please state your age and gender if you will. I'm a male, 27 years old, and here's my list.

We do have the Top 10s feature on each and every MoFos profile page. Just click any user name in any post to head on over to a profile. This is an easy way to quickly get at least a fair idea of any given MoFo's taste. Plenty of people also do a Top 100 favorites, which you will see floating around in a thread of their own.

Obviously, this thread is fine too, but I just wanted to make sure you were aware of the current Top 10 features we have embedded in the site, or that users tend to post.

A lot of great movies on the list.

Just curious - why's Sawshank Redemption rated to high? It borrowed heavily from the plot of the novel "The Count of Monte Cristo", so IMO it's a good film, but is overrated because it lacks originality.

Shawshank at #1. Respect! Its is the stuff of legends, best movie in any language, any time period, any given day, any given weather.... and more any's if you want.

I base my ratings comparing with Shawshank!

Mystic River! Another good choice! It somewhat flies under the radar a bit! But excellent movie.

Never been able to sit through a Lord of the Rings movie and I just don't get Vanilla Sky. I still haven't seen Gone Girl or The Wolf of Wall Street, but I have no problem with the rest of your list.

I finished the trilogy in eight sittings!

Nice list...However, I must call out a discrepancy between this Top 25 and your Top 10 list on your profile.

Oh yes, you know exactly what film I am talking about!

Yes, I know it is hard to admit to liking this disco era classic. And when I say classic, I mean guilty pleasure, because this is a terrible, horrible film.

I love every second of it.

It is so ridiculously bad, that I must sing along to all the tunes, basking in the nostalgia of my childhood/teen crush on Ms. Newton-John, all while watching poor ol Gene Kelly stranded in this turd, with Micheal Beck posturing and attempting to act, while failing completely.

I hate love this film, and will never watch it again, ever watch it again very soon.

You will NOT find much love for this flick on the site, that's for sure. However, there are a few of us sad sacks hanging around that, for some alien, despicable reason, love it.

I love Xanadu.

That's a pretty loaded question. I'll come back later with my favorites; I need to sit down and think about this for a while.

This is my favorite list so far. It's great to see some love for international cinema.

Gooble gobble, one of us!
Here are 25 films I would consider to be my current favourites, in random order:

Eraserhead
Apocalypse Now
The 400 Blows
2001: A Space Odyssey
Persona
Raging Bull
The Mirror
Seven Samurai
There Will Be Blood
Amarcord
Tokyo Story
Barry Lyndon
Modern Times
Tirez sur le pianiste
The Rules of the Game
Bicycle Thieves
Une femme est une femme
La grande illusion
Vertigo
Citizen Kane
Man with a Movie Camera
Seven Chances
The Tree of Life
Shame

25 films doesn't even begin to justify what I think is the best of cinema.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
Why aren't there more fun films on your lists? They're full of "great" movies but only a few elicit any joy or personal, idiosyncratic love of cinema. They resemble some critics' consensus.
