I googled "the Best Scottish Historical Hero Movie of 1995" and only Braveheart came up. What instead? Enquiring minds want to know.

Two my cents for the moment... Scrooge McDuck could kick Braveheart's ass

At least it isn't boring as shit like Gladiator, the other Oscar winning bro movie that has fallen out of favor with critics in recent years.

I've also got a pair of plastic vampire teeth for particularly special occasions.
It's yet to be determined if this situation will require them

Wit alone is not going to cut it.
I agree with your take on Braveheart. I'm not courageous enough to say anything against Gladiator. Hail Phoenix!
Neither Braveheart nor Chungking Express are on my list.
I have seen Braveheart, but I haven't seen Chungking Express.

My brother likes films like Braveheart and Gladiator, I don't. Both were just, eh, movies I saw; and pretty unremarkable movies at that. He tried to talk me into seeing the sequel for Glads, thankfully his son-in-law said he go, as I slipped him a fin under the table (yes, I think I'm living in a 40s film noir, what of it? Also that was a lie, he volunteered out of the kindness of his heart)
I later bumped into it streaming and got about 20 minutes into it before I breaking into my George C. Scott impression... "TURN IT OFF, TURN IT OFF!!" sobs uncontrollably.
Welp I'm glad for you and yours, sadly, I was not filled with such joy. It wasn't quite "TURN IT OFF!" levels, but nevertheless, not joyful. Nope, joy is not the word I would use.

Holy frijoles! The four of us that went (Anderson lovers all, though all with different opinions about what his best is/are) all agreed Asteroid City was one of his best films and early candidate for best film of the year. We were joyful about cinema itself when we left that theater.

Braveheart is good but it's been decades since I saw it. It was one of those we used to watch a lot as teens in the 90s. Probably the violence and the freedom.
I had Chungking Express at #4. Love WKW. Love this film. It always plays well on rewatches. Especially this scene, one of the best transition scenes in the history of film.
My Top 25 is taking shape:
1. Close-Up (1990)
4. Chungking Express (1994)
8. JFK (1991)
12. A Moment of Innocence (1996)
17. The Thin Red Line (1998)
18. Apollo 13 (1995)
20. Sonatine (1993)
22. The Player (1992)
23. Three Colors: Blue (1993)

Braveheart was okay. It has some good action scenes and the story is okay (regardless of accuracy). It just dragged a lot. I also got super sleepy about half an hour before it ended so I couldn't wait for it to end so I could go to bed. It felt like it had five chances to end, and didn't, which annoyed me. I've been tempted to rewatch it when I can stay awake the whole time. I wasn't tired when I started it.
I haven't seen Chungking Express. Sounds interesting though.

Ok, two Scots based movies close together.
Living in Scotland when Braveheart and Trainspotting came out... 14 with Trainspotting, 13 years old with Braveheart.
I remember the buzz around the movie being huge where I lived... but on release, I remember a lot of people feeling disjointed due to the inaccuracies.
Its a fun movie... but when the Scottish education system of the 80s and 90s revolving around Geography Class teaching ONLY Scottish Geography, Art Class teaching ONLY Scottish Artists, Music Lessons teaching ONLY Scottish Musicians, Gym Class teaching ONLY Scottish sports including Ceilidh Dancing... Social Studies teaching ONLY Scottish Politics and Sociology and....... drum rolll...
... History Class teaching ONLY Scottish History, Braveheart falls short of the mark for me, and many of the people around me at the time, as the real history had been belted into us from an early age.
