i remember seeing this movie last year , after hearing much praise for it : and it's satire .

It was just a super crappy - horrible acting : dumb action movie - nothing funny about it

I'm not old, you're just 12.
i guess i didn't understand the satire - much like young frankenstien
How can someone NOT understand Young Frankenstein? It's the movie Frankenstein...played for laughs. It's simple.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
He hasn't seen any of the Frankenstein movies it spoofs/satirizes (and I think there are only about five or six). One of the great, unforgotten things about Young Frankenstein is that it's a true sequel to the Universal series. It's hilarious, yet still a loving homage and faithful to all the originals.

As far as I'm concerned, every Verhoeven movie is a satire, not only of the subject matter of the specific movie, but of the concept of genre movies in general. Yes, I'm including Showgirls too, a definite "guilty pleasure" of mine, even if I haven't watched it for years.

I saw Young Frankenstein when I was about 10, and I'd never seen any of the frankenstein movies, and I laughed so hard I fell off my chair. As long as someone has even a vague knowledge about frankenstein, it's just plain funny. I think you're overthinking it. Yes, it visually references the old films, but even without that knowledge, there's a ton of cheesey wordplay, slapstick gags, and that AWESOME musical number in the film that are simple to understand.

The inaugural 'No ***** Sherlock' award goes to this thread.

Congratulations!

It was a tough choice, let me tell you, between threads such as:

My arse has dropped off, should I see a doctor?

I lost weight by eating less food!

and

My nasty body odour improved after that shower. I think I'm on to something!

I'm bumping this just for laughs... And I honestly did not know you could lose weight if you ate less food. Good to know.

Incredible movie. One of my all time favorites. Pure comedy genius.

robocop is a satire...lolz...

Great, now I have "Putting on the Ritz" stuck in my head.

But yeah, Robocop's a satire. Pretty good one too, for an action movie. If you don't get it it's probably because it's target is the sort of 80's Good Morning America Regan capitalism that quickly stopped existing sometime around 1991.

Apparently, the original script was just a schlocky turd that Verhoeven polished until it shined. Go figure.

just got done seeing it for a second time - I actually really liked it , but yet again : i defintly wouldn't call it a satire - it has some very short satrical parts but I defintly wouldn't call the movie a comedy/satire

Why would you even call it a satire?
Why wouldn't you call it a satire?

Satire:1.the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing, denouncing, or deriding vice, folly, etc.

Isn't that what those wonderfully funny and entertaining commercials and TV shows are doing through the whole film?

Robocop, I love the movie to bits, Sure its got a ****** title but the movie is fast paced with i felt a good storyline that kept the movie going.

I have all 3 movies, Its good stuff.
