Raul is it alright if i send my nom now and if i don't think i'll be able to do it i'll tell you before it starts? It's cool if not.

rauldc14 10-25-16 02:58 PM

Re: Animation Hall of Fame

Works for me. I'm expecting this to be a fairly small HOF.

CosmicRunaway 10-25-16 03:00 PM

Re: Animation Hall of Fame

I checked the Animated Films Countdown to see how the film I'd like to nominate (if I joined this) did...and it's not on the list at all. And there's no reviews for it on this site. That's probably not a good sign.

Camo 10-25-16 03:00 PM

Re: Animation Hall of Fame

Sent then. Think i'll more than likely end up joining anyway.

Maybe not many people have seen it.

CosmicRunaway 10-25-16 03:05 PM

Re: Animation Hall of Fame

I haven't seen the movie in question in a very long time, so I'll definitely have to watch it again before deciding anyway, but I thought it was something that a lot of people knew about.

rauldc14 10-25-16 03:05 PM

Re: Animation Hall of Fame

I hope you join Cosmic.

Camo 10-25-16 03:06 PM

Re: Animation Hall of Fame

Beauty and the Beast can't be nominated right, since it won the Animated Musical HOF? Just thought that should be said since it's popular and some people might want to.

rauldc14 10-25-16 03:09 PM

Re: Animation Hall of Fame

It could, but I'd prefer it not to be.

I've settled on my nomination as well.

Miss Vicky 10-25-16 03:11 PM

Nominate it!

I've seen every movie that made that countdown, so I'd like to see some fresh stuff. My nomination wasn't on the countdown either.

Camo 10-25-16 03:12 PM

Re: Animation Hall of Fame

I've seen 91% so i'm kinda hoping some of the ones i haven't seen from the list get nommed.

Re: Animation Hall of Fame

I told you to tell me if you started one :(. Anyway good thing I started being active again...yesterday. So yeah, I'm in, need to check the best animated nominee

Edit: what are the ones that we can't nominee? (Like previous winners or somethin?)

Just Beauty and the Beast.

Raul said anything that qualified for the countdown qualifies for this. The rules for the countdown and a list of ineligible films can be found here:

Re: Animation Hall of Fame

If we have less than 7 members I'm suggesting we nominate 2, but we won't know that for awhile yet.

tatmmw2 10-25-16 03:53 PM

Re: Animation Hall of Fame

Well I reduced the number to 14. So sad I can't nominee an entire Trilogy, Evangelion did a great remake

CosmicRunaway 10-25-16 06:45 PM

I just finished re-watching the film I mentioned earlier. I hadn't seen it in...probably about 15 years or more.

Nostalgia clearly coloured my opinion of it, but I think I'm going to nominate it anyway, especially since it doesn't seem to have much of a presence on this website. Even if it doesn't hold up as well as I thought it would, I do think it deserves a chance. People liked Goodbye, Lenin! more than I thought they would, so maybe the same will be true here.

MovieMeditation 10-25-16 06:51 PM

Re: Animation Hall of Fame

I nominate Re-Animator!

Oh wait...

Camo 10-25-16 07:05 PM

Decided i'm in Raul. There's only a limited amount of films i think are must sees before i send in my Sci-Fi list, so i i can do this. I was actually originally planning on not joining the 11th so i could join this one until you guys wanted me to host.

Shame you're not going to join, sean. But I guess that lessens the chances of me having to rewatch Fantastic Mr. Fox. ;)

rauldc14 10-25-16 07:14 PM

Re: Animation Hall of Fame

I will be rewatching anything that I've seen previously, regardless if I like it or not.

Would have been nice to get Sean in, but I know he hasn't been watching much lately.

If it is a film i disliked or was lukewarm about i'll definitely give it another shot. If it's something i really love and that i've seen recently i might just leave it. Don't know depends what is nominated.

Miss Vicky 10-25-16 07:20 PM

Re: Animation Hall of Fame

The only one I might not watch is my own nomination, but otherwise I will watch or rewatch everything, regardless of how I've felt about it in the past.

I'm really not anymore. I was a big Disney head back in the day. Yeah, I'm not joining any till my life gers a little slower. I don't want my movie watching to become a task.

Well, in these HoFs I think one should nominate stuff other people haven't watched. If it's a uber popular movie and wasn't in the countdown it's certainly because few people liked it (i.,e. a movie like Cars or Shrek 3).

CosmicRunaway 10-27-16 04:29 PM

You can probably just state which one is your first nomination, and then he could use the other one if he decides that we can nominate two films.

CosmicRunaway 10-27-16 04:33 PM

Re: Animation Hall of Fame

I'd just like to say that I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of films you guys have nominated. I rarely watch animated films and really need to increase my exposure to the medium.

tatmmw2 10-27-16 04:49 PM

Re: Animation Hall of Fame

The thing is that I watched a lot of Animated films but I think they are all well-known, what I mean is that I don't know animated films that other people didn't watch, I know one that it was ok and it's an argentinian one, but it's not a really cool movie I want to nominate, so I will just nominate a movie I liked a lot

I dont know if i`ll still think its as good, but this is one thats left such an impression on me- i constantly used to think of it as a kid.we used to drive around to different rent shop to look for it but never found it again.

Clazor 10-28-16 12:43 PM

Re: Animation Hall of Fame

My nom's sent. Had a similar experience as Topsy with my nom, this was a heartwrenching film at times with an uncertain ending. Didn't forget about it though, thankfully, but I love it.

Also, in honor of the HoF and the Sci-Fi countdown, my favourites will be fulxuating with my personal favourite animated/Sci-fi movies, that will change from time to time in accordance with my mood and what I think is the best movies at that moment. Feel free to parouse.

I think it's just prejudice to say you will dislike something only because it's released direct to video. And in the 1980's and 1990's most animated movies were released direct to video.

i'm fine with this it could easily be a great film. All i'd ask though is is it easy enough to obtain? A direct to video Anime film seems like it could be a struggle to find.

Just noticed this. I couldn't disagree with this more. If people want to nominate films that aren't seen or talked about much then i support that, but the same if someone nominated a super popular film i'm with them as long as they love it. It is a hall of fame after all; The Godfather or whatever has as much place in one of these as something unwatched and i think they work out best when there's a mix of obscure and well known. Possibly leaning more to the former i'll admit but i always appreciate say an Empire Strikes Back like in the 10th HOF.

I think you put yourself in a silly situation. You are nominating a film that isn't even among your animated favorites just because it's an obscure film. But whatever dude, do whatever you want and listen to us bitch and moan when we don't care for it.

Hell, nominate a Miyazaki film and or Takahata and let us enjoy watching it :)

You're right. I was just saying that since other people were able to find Bashu, a film that a few of us thought would be too obscure at the start of the HoF, you shouldn't worry about your nomination just yet - at least until we've had the chance to take a look as well.

No, it's the best animated film I watched this year. I nominate it because of its artistic qualities. Now, your attitude needs improving, first because it's not really obscure at all, for example, I first watched it on TV when I was 9 years old and yes, it's a personal favorite and a childhood favorite. There are other great animation besides Miyazaki and Takahata.

Second, but nonetheless important: It's very arrogant and disrespectful to judge nominations that you have not watched nor have any idea of its reputation. Now just because you never heard of it doesn't meant it's obscure: the world is vast, most of it is obscure to an individual mind, we have to be humble and understand that we know little and hence try to understand what we don't know and not just judge it without having formed an opinion based on a well intentioned watch. Enjoyment of movies depends heavily on how much you invest yourself into it and how humble you are in accepting that maybe it doesn't need to fit into the stylistic straight jacket used in most Hollywood movies.

I'm not part of this Hof.....But I did read the controversy about Guap's nomination and I've seen this problem with Guap's direct to video nominations come up in other Hofs.

Perhaps the rule should be no direct to video movies. As always it's totally up to the host. I'm just floating that idea.

Some direct to video movies are easy to find. The rule should only be about how hard it is to find, not whether or not it's a direct to video movie.

Well, usually direct to video is crap. And in almost every Hof there's complaints about Guaps direct to video nominations. Yet, there are plenty of theatrical release animes for him to nominate. Like I said, just floating the idea for future host.

I'm not bashing the direct to video aspect. I'm bashing that he has nominated something he has never talked about in his millions of animation threads before.

jal90 10-29-16 05:54 AM

This. Is. Getting. Ridiculous. What about waiting till the nominations are set, watching the films, and then having an opinion.

Raul, i'm not joining unless you force jal90 to nominate Bartok The Magnificent.

Nope. I'm in with The return of Jafar though

Might we heed our host and not spill the porverbial beans on the rest of the noms? I'm sure he's put in some work on presentation and I for one would like to see the fruits of that labour unspoiled.

And yes, I know the hypocrisy of repping jal's post and then say this, but that was only because it's a very good nom. :p

I thought the Return of Jafar comment was a joke. Was it serious?
