Movie Theme of the Week!

OK, this is an old idea of mine, from many years ago. Hopefully it goes well. All we do is take the new "theme of the week", choose an avatar, signature quote/quotes, and/or even a user-title, to match the theme. This isn't a test of any kind, so choose whatever you prefer.

We will each have a turn, according to where we are on the high post count of the member's list. Once everyone has had a turn, the list cycles again. However, as post count changes, and people come and go, I will alter the list. Right now, those who are interested in trying this are . . .

Now, if you are not sure as to what I mean by theme, it can be anything from an actor, director, genre . . . but try to choose something with a little more range. Some examples would be Boxing, Vampires, Bank Robbers, Mothers, Supernatural, Football . . . You can find these characters in pretty much any genre.

Also, the same movie can be used by more than one person, as long as you choose a different character from it. Now, this is another one of the rules we did over yonder, but if you all prefer not to worry with it, and are OK with more than one person using the same person/idea, let me know.

That takes me to the last part. The new person was to choose their theme on Sunday. With it being the weekend, it made it easier for almost everyone to be on-line. With this board, I'm fine with the member having both Saturday, and Sunday, to post their theme. Almost everyone tried to be there that morning, just to get their favorite choices. I don't see that being a huge problem, here. I rarely ever showed up, because I loved sleeping, more. I still had an easy time choosing something.

If you all want anything different, or whatever, speak now. Caity chooses her theme this weekend.

Also, if for any reason you can't/don't show up by midnight Sunday night to name your theme, it rolls over to the next person. If you need to be switched, just let me know. That is easy enough to alter.

The list goes by high post count. So as people ask to join in, I toss them in the list. This idea did end up helping a lot with the board post total, but as I've remarked before, make them good ones. :D

The new theme goes up on either Saturday, or Sunday. Whichever works out best for that member.

Disclaimer: I'm actually NOT using clowns as my theme, so if anyone wants that one, it's up for grabs.

Also, don't know if Des is up to this, but whomever has it the week after whichever theme is currently active, let her know a couple days in advance so she can get a couple avatars ready. This is all up to her though.

OK, first . . . Caity, you can PM your original idea to me, if you like, so that I can see if you're headed in the right direction. Also, I'm fine with knowing a day or two in advance, so that I can make some spare avatars. Also, if you know your theme a couple of days early, and want an avatar from a You-tube video, or something, let me know that, as well.

As far as Martian goes, only if she joins in normally, will she get a turn. It won't be right for someone to pick something out, that everyone's going to follow for the week, with her not doing the same. Besides, that "just for Friday" deal won't work for the bulk of these, with the new themes going up on Saturday-Sunday. It went up for a lot of us on Friday, last week, because that was Nebbit's Saturday. Anyway, I took her off the list a few days ago, and only if she joins in accurately, will she be re-listed.

As far as using TV shows goes, that's fine, but once this gets going, you all will see that it's a lot easier than it seems. We had quite a large number on that other board, maybe 30 or so, and it worked just fine. Nebbit's movie worked, because there are numerous Star Trek movies, but as someone mentioned up above, it's not always a movie that should be used. They usually won't work very well. I listed some very good examples in my first post.

This is probably very sloppy, but I'm running late, and must get ready to go . . .

Friday is the end of the previous week's, with Saturday-Sunday being the beginning of the next week. Basically, as soon as the next person in line has announced there's, everyone does the hokey-pokey and switches avatars. :)

Yes, but the last time I checked, these are two different forums. Yes, your original thread was for a different themed avatar on Friday. Des took that, and turned it into the different themed avatar for a WEEK.

I already know what I would use. See, that's what is fun about this. The second the theme goes up, everyone gets these movie ideas going through their heads, and with all the different taste in film on this board, it will be very rare that we all come up with the same idea. You'll see. ;)

That wasn't who came to my mind, but the one that did will probably be used before I got to this. My bad taste in film, my love for cheese, and the 80's, always helped me out with this game. Something always came to mind.

Don't forget, if you would like to tell me the theme a couple of days in advance, I'll make some spare avatars. I'd rather not wait until after the theme is up. That last set was a rush job, and I hate to rush.

Now, although I've said that you have to join in on a more-so regular basis, if you want to choose a theme, anyone who doesn't want to choose a theme, can simply let me know, and I'll take them off the list. There's a good 6-7 months of themes before your's. If you like, I can leave you there for now, and you can decide for good, closer to the time that you would choose your own theme. Would that be OK?

Don't be so quick to sell yourself short fishy. There's still one person that has been around longer and still doesn't get the concept. I'm sure, with you, this will only take one post. :)

Back on the first page, in the second post, there is a list of all who are participating. We're basically going down this list and every Saturday-Sunday, whomever is next on the list picks the theme for the next week. It can be anything movie related.

So, if you wanted in on this, which it'll take a while to get down to you with you being a new member, you could pick Cowboys as your theme. Everyone would find a Cowboy-related avatar and use that until the next week. Nebbit, who was first, chose Star Trek. If you want to use a movie series that has a lot of characters to choose from, that's fine as well.

Caitlyn is up next with hers, which will probably be announced tomorrow. Regardless of how long it takes before its your turn is really not important. The important thing during all of this is to HAVE FUN!!

I think this was more or less the simple fact that we just jumped into it without waiting on a lot of people. As soon as people started seeing what we were doing, their curiosity had peaked.

If memory serves, on that board, once a certain character was used, no one else could use them. No one seemed to mind, here, so I didn't say anything. Although, I guess we could at least keep it to not using the same exact picture that someone else has already used.

I doubt we can always say "Don't use the same character," but I'd agree with not using the same picture. But I didn't even KNOW he and I had the same picture till yesterday when I happened upon a thread with a post of his in it that I read.

Plus, would we have to start checking EVERYONE'S avatar before posting our own? How would this work exactly? I agree with it -- but it won't necessarily be easy to make sure we all have different pictures.

OK, it looks like the most of us think it's best to not worry about the same character being used, but to try not to use the same photos. My guess is, it will rarely ever happen. The same character being used, would be the bigger pain to avoid.

Austruck asked how we would keep up with this? Over yonders, we all replied in the theme thread, once we had our avatar set. That was simple enough.

I honestly didn't make the rule, on a character only being used once. It was someone else's idea, and enough of them liked it, so it stuck. To me, there are so many choices out there, that if I pick something, and someone else snags it first, I'll simply choose something else. That's exactly what I did this time around.

I've read everything now, including the recent discussion and now I'm just not sure what the conclusion is. Is it ok as long as its not the same picture? or are we avoiding same characters? Perhaps different actors playing the same character is ok?

There is only one serious rule, that I can think of. You can't pick one, unless you go along with the other members' choices. For the most part, anyway.

I'll get that thread up, tomorrow night. It will have a simple post of what to do, and the "post count" list of who all wants to join in.

I almost went Highlander, I was closer to going Conan actually. In the end it was the Sword that won out. The Green Destiny from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon along with the lovely Ziyi Zhang was too good to pass up. There are some great stills of Michelle Yeoh from that flick as well but this one is pretty good.
