I checked out those lists that Pyro linked to and one of them had Shawshank on there. So I guess pretty much any movie is a cult movie. Its totally subjective.

Well, i'm not sure how i can cut it down when it's quite subjective, thought not using films that were 'cult' solely on fan following would be good start in cutting out mainstream movies that can be deemed as cult. Since most zombie films are also cult and done last week, will say none of them.

So difficult to narrow it down. So many cult movies become kind of mainstream-cult (you know what I mean, they're on t-shirts and posters everywhere, your Scarface, your Clockwork Orange etc). What counts as obscure cult? If just me and my mate like it that makes it obscure, but is it enough for a cult? Cultexistential angst aside, I've gone for this. Cos I like it. And a couple other of my favourites have been picked already.

Well, you know I own the box set, right? When I bought it at Supanova, the people running the stand for Siren Visual (the DVD distribution company that published the Jodorowsky box set in Australia) ended up giving me a free T-shirt - it's powder blue with the opening scene of Holy Mountain screen-printed on in white.

As for being a fan - I'm still up in the air about it. It's one of about fifty films that I'm trying to fit into the bottom 10 of my upcoming Top 100 list and it may just end up making it in. I don't know, my opinion on the film is somewhat conflicted.

Obviously they don't have to be off that list but if we could stay away from mainstream films and ones that are mainly cult because of their following- Star Wars for example.

I'm just now going through these lists, and I'm surprised as to how many I own from the "obscure" list. I didn't think I'd have any. I love my avatar, and it reminds me of . . . me, but I'd sooner make them from my collection, so I'll be changing it soon.

The only way I can think of The Thing being considered "obscure" is because it's not actively touted as a masterpiece of either critical or cultural significance in the same way that something like The Shining is, for example.

Well, it's pretty obvious what my theme is. There are numerous movies to choose from. Obviously, you can choose from Vampires, Werewolves, etc . . . or you can go for something more real, like the bear from The Edge, the monkey from Outbreak, etc . . .

Just make sure your avatar has fangs.

I was contemplating using a Near Dark-related avatar but the vampires in Near Dark actually don't have any fangs, just regular incisors, so I felt it wouldn't count.

It's funny, but Pyro almost used this. He sent me two ideas. Vampires, and Cult films. I almost told him that I was going to use Vampires, sort of, but I didn't want him not using them just because of me. I sent a simple reply, about Vampires working as good as the Zombie theme did, and that cult films would also work well. That's the first thing I looked for the next morning . . . Vampire avatars. I was like, "Yippee!" :p

Sarah Palin took her younger daughter to a Yankees game, and he said something along the lines that Palin's daughter got knocked up by Alex Rodriguez. He also said something about Palin looking like a slutty stewardess. This was all in his "Top 10" somewhere, I believe. Palin fired back that her 14-year-old daughter (the one who went to the game) shouldn't be discussed being raped (although I don't recall the word rape being used), but that Letterman is a 62-year-old pervert. Conservative radio has latched onto this to prove that Letterman has no sense of humor and is in fact, a pervert. I guess it might have something to do with the fact that Letterman is a liberal and spent the last eight years slamming W., but it's a hot topic now, so that's what I think it's about since I didn't hear or see any of it firsthand. I just listen to the radio in the car sometimes.

Again, thanks to those who joined in. I thought it was a pretty decent theme. The Vampires made it easy enough, for those who aren't into creature type films. There's only 100 Vampire movies out there. The Fangs gave it loads of variety. I wanted to use some of the fanged creatures from Evolution, and possibly Mimic, but the week just wasn't long enough. I also wanted to use my Dracula movie, and Love at First Bite. I just thought of another possible film. If I have the time, I'll switch it again.

p.s. I'm kind of surprised no one used one of these guys . . .
