Jackie Stallone (Sly's mother) and I go way back, which is why I've decided to use her. We're good friends. I pulled down my pants for her one day and she immediately saw right into my future. She's an astrologer that reads butts instead of palms. She gave me a spanking because she saw me being very naughty in 2008. (yep, I was!)

It's been a couple of years since I last saw Jackie, but I predict that we'll meet again when I visit her on the set of the next Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie.

Ironically, I just watch The X-Files episode starring Peter Boyle. Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose. Peter Boyle is a great psychic, but all the others are dreadful, with their easy answers, and thoughts that pretty much cover any possibility. "He is 17 to 35. She is a blond, brunette, or a red head, maybe. This person feels as though they have no control of their life . . . " With those kinds of answers, you can't be wrong. Even when you are.

Hello!

I wrestled with this probably more than was appropriate.

At first I had settled on the theme of 'Anything Hitchcock' since several of my favorite films are of that bent (and yours too judging by the favorites lists).

It was the MoFo top 100 list being bandied about though that really got me thinking about the lack of love for horror films here at MoFo. Of course some examples are widely loved and respected here but for the most part the old creature features, the Universal monster movies of the 30's & 40's, The Hammer Horror classics, Roger Corman etc get rather less attention than I feel is deserved.

So, to that end, the theme for the week is:

I wanted to be somewhat limiting so no one shows up with a Scary Movie avatar or a 'The Fog' remake avatar but this genre is probably the least likely to continue to get love here so whatever you like that fits the theme, knock yourselves out.

Of course, I'd personally be elated if some of you non horror fans go out and rent "I Spit on Your Grave" and love it so much that you make an avatar of it.

Or maybe you'll be curious as to who Roger Corman is and you'll stumble on a copy of Dementia 13 (written and directed by Coppola) and fall in love with it like I did.

Anyway, hope you all like it and that if you're not a horror film fan that some exposure and thinking about horror films this week will spur you on to give some a try. I mean, to me, a dark evening with a film like "Let's Scare Jessica to Death" is a slice of heaven.

Very nice .gifs, Destiny! Is it possible for you to create similar animated .gifs pertaining to The Blair Witch? For instance, a .gif containing the final, climactic scene (or a portion of it) where Mike is facing the wall, about to be you-know-what, or of some random scene in the woods showing the piles of rocks and/or hanging wooden figures? Or, perhaps, The Blair Witch Project doesn't contain an excellent scene for an animated avatar. :/

I don't have a specific scene to suggest (except for the movie's final scene) -- I haven't seen the movie in a couple months, but if you can come up with anything at all, it'd be greatly appreciated. :)

Lol, no worries. Yeah, I asked the same day. I wasn't impatient or anything, I just had some free time and felt like tinkering with how to make a .gif. I wouldn't feel guilty anyway, because making these things really is time consuming, and you turn them out for people on your own time.

I used one program - Adobe ImageReady CS - and THIS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z93Z1v5dypE) tutorial. ImageReady isn't a free program, though; I got mine in a Photoshop package. It's also currently discontinued.

Basically, ImageReady works like Photoshop: you can create an image made of multiple layers. To create an animated .gif, you create a new document, load all your single frame images into ImageReady, and then one by one, drag-and-drop them into the new document, making sure you line them up accordingly. Each image you drop will create its own layer, so if you've got twenty images, you'll have twenty-one layers (including the white background layer, which you delete later). You also have to drop them in backwards, so your frames will line up correctly in the filmstrip.

Then, you open the Animation playback toolbar, and load your layers into it automatically as a filmstrip. You've got to do some tweaking here, particularly in how long each frame plays, and also delete that white background layer. But once that's done, you save your .gif as a manageable size, and voila!

To get my images, I opened the Youtube video, paused at each frame I wanted, and hit "Print Screen" on my keyboard, which essentially copies what's on your screen. Then, I went to ImageReady, opened a new document, clicked "Edit" then "Paste" and cropped out everything but the frame I wanted. I had to do that 27 times because I used 27 frames.

You can also lighten your images (albeit one-by-one) in ImageReady using the Image Adjustment options.

Go to Zamzar, and click on the 'download videos' tab. Take your You-tube URL address, and place it in the URL blank. Click the 'convert files' tab, and choose 'video formats' AVI. Then enter your email address, and click the 'convert' tab. Wait for it to load. I've done this. It does work, and it is safe. They email you the link for downloading your video. You only have 24 hours to save your video to your computer, unless you join.

Of course I didn't know that until now. I had to shut-down earlier, because my computer is ****. I finally came back to toss it together, and the video stops at 7:13. Five minutes before the avatar scene. Anyway, whatever problem Zamzar was having, ii's OK now. It is at 71% complete. So, knock on wood, and no matter what . . . You best use this thing. :p
