I thought about New Years BB... but decided to go with one of my favorite movie genres instead... so the theme this week is:
WESTERNS
and I hope you all have some fun with it without flooding the boards with John Wayne... who, I, personally, do not care for at all.... :nope:
I'm going with Ellen from The Quick and the Dead for now...
We haven't done Westerns yet have we?

Nice theme. Nice avatar choice, too. I love The Quick and the Dead.
Decided to go with the other Crowe Western though. Funny how similar his two characters are. One's an outlaw turned preacher, the other's an outlaw who likes to quote the Bible and both spend most of their respective movies in chains.

I was actually conidering picking this theme when it was my turn, and I really like the choice, Iro. Mostly because it reflects that user's film interests.
However, I think I am going to split my week avatars because I have a tie for first place that I haven't really resolved yet, but here will be my choices.

You left the game, and announced that, so I removed you from the list. This is exactly why I kept stressing for people to look HERE (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=19298)! If you don't see your name on the list, PM or profile comment me. Let me know. Ask me to remove or add you to it.
I never said anything about a New Years week, so if that was something else that was truly wanted, it needed to be brought to my attention.
Miss Vicky
01-01-10, 02:19 PM
I'm a bit sad to remove Ben Wade from my avatar, but I do quite like this new theme.
And my choice is Quills. I love everything about this movie. The lush costumes and sets, the plot and dialogue that is at once heartbreaking, hilarious and oh so sexy. Plus it boasts an amazing cast, including Joaquin Phoenix at his absolute best - both in terms of performance and, well, let's just say that if real priests looked as incredible as he does in this movie, I'd be attending church every Sunday.

Say do you have to participate in every theme?
No. Not that I am aware of. I mean, what if someone doesn't feel up to changing their avatar one week? So yeah, I don't really think everyone has to really go along with every single theme. If they want they can skip one week here or there. It's not like some major catastrophe.

Decided to go with the iconic mini coopers from the classic Italian Job. Fun fact, the tunnel scene was actually filmed in Coventry, near where I live.

Even though I did participate in last weeks theme and this one. But guess you can't see that! *SIGH* Oh don't worry not trying to sound mean or anything. :)
Yes, I did notice your Christine avatar conveniently matched last week and this weeks theme... however, as I recall, you also used Christine the week before which was westerns... so, thus far, you've not really participated in the theme by choice... it's only been by chance...

You have no idea how hard I try to do this. It's tougher than it sounds.

No, you lucked out.

Sarcastic, maybe!
There are roughly 15 people ahead of you on the list. As you've been told, it's in order by post count. If you can participate in those . . . for the entire week . . . then you will get a turn. I don't see anyone else having a problem with this, so you shouldn't either.

Queen is a musical group.
Freddie Mercury is the lead singer of that group.
Flash Gordon is a sci fi comic book character that has also appeared in movies and television.
Basically, we are encouraged to find an avatar from a grab bag filled with 7thson's interests or obsessions.

Looking great guys. There are really many choices out there and you do not have to be stuck with just Flash or Freddie. Here is a snippet from the ever factual ;) Wikipedia:
Film and television
Queen contributed music directly to the movies Flash Gordon (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Flash_Gordon_(film)) (1980, directed by Mike Hodges (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Mike_Hodges)) and Highlander (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Highlander_(film)) (the original 1986 film, directed by Russell Mulcahy (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Russell_Mulcahy)). The songs, "A Kind of Magic (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/A_Kind_of_Magic), "One Year of Love (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/One_Year_of_Love)", "Who Wants to Live Forever (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Who_Wants_to_Live_Forever)", "Hammer to Fall (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Hammer_to_Fall)", and the theme "Princes of the Universe (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Princes_of_the_Universe)" can be heard in the film. It was also used in the Highlander TV series (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Highlander:_The_Series) (1992–1998). "A Kind of Magic (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/A_Kind_of_Magic)" can be heard in the beginning bar scene of "Highlander 2 (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Highlander_2)".
In the United States, "Bohemian Rhapsody (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Bohemian_Rhapsody)" was re-released as a single in 1992 after appearing in Wayne's World (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Wayne%27s_World_(film)). The single subsequently reached number two on the US Billboard chart (with "The Show Must Go On (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/The_Show_Must_Go_On_(Queen_song))" as the first track on the single) and helped rekindle the band's popularity in North America.
Several films have featured their songs performed by other artists. A version of "Somebody to Love" was done by Anne Hathaway (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Anne_Hathaway_(actress)) in the 2004 film Ella Enchanted (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Ella_Enchanted_(film)). In 2006, Brittany Murphy (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Brittany_Murphy) also recorded a cover of the same song for the 2006 movie Happy Feet (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Happy_Feet). In 2001, a version of "The Show Must Go On (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/The_Show_Must_Go_On_(Queen_song))" was performed by Jim Broadbent (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Jim_Broadbent) and Nicole Kidman (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Nicole_Kidman) in the movie musical Moulin Rouge! (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Moulin_Rouge!). The closing credits of A Knight's Tale (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/A_Knight%27s_Tale_(film)) released in 2001 has a version of "We Are the Champions (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/We_Are_the_Champions)" performed by Robbie Williams (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Robbie_Williams) and Queen; the introduction to the same movie features We Will Rock You (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/We_Will_Rock_You) played by the medieval audience. In 1992, the film "Gladiator (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Gladiator_(1992_film))" featured snippets of "We Will Rock You" performed by Warrant (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Warrant_(American_band)) whereas their full version was released as a single. In 2004 "Don't Stop Me Now" was featured in the bar fight scene in the cult movie Shaun of the Dead (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Shaun_of_the_Dead), and "You're My Best Friend" played during the end credits, as well as during the 2006 film "The Break-Up".
In May 2004, The Japanese live-action version of Sailor Moon, called Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. In Act 29: "Minako's Rival, Mio Kuroki, is a Transfer Student?", used "I Was Born To Love You" in a volleyball game scene between the shows hero Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon (Miyuu Sawai) and Mio Kuroki (Alisa Yuriko Durbrow) a Dark Kingdom minion and "Rival" to J-Pop Idol Minako Aino/ Sailor Venus (Ayaka Komatsu).
Keeping in the tradition (since Season Five) of naming each season's episodes after songs from a famous 1970s era rock band (Led Zeppelin (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Led_Zeppelin) for the fifth season, The Who (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/The_Who) for the sixth and The Rolling Stones (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/The_Rolling_Stones) for the seventh), the eighth and final season of That '70s Show (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/That_%2770s_Show) consisted of episodes named after Queen songs. "Bohemian Rhapsody (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Bohemian_Rhapsody_(That_%2770s_Show))" served as the season premiere.[98] (http://www.movieforums.com/community/#cite_note-97)
On 11 April 2006 Brian May and Roger Taylor appeared on the American singing contest television show American Idol (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/American_Idol). Each contestant was required to sing a Queen song during that week of the competition. Songs which appeared on the show included "Bohemian Rhapsody (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Bohemian_Rhapsody)", "Fat Bottomed Girls (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Fat_Bottomed_Girls)", "The Show Must Go On (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/The_Show_Must_Go_On_(Queen_song))", "Who Wants to Live Forever (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Who_Wants_to_Live_Forever)", and "Innuendo (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Innuendo_(song))". Brian May later criticised the show for editing specific scenes,[99] (http://www.movieforums.com/community/#cite_note-98) one which made the group's time with contestant Ace Young (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Ace_Young) look negative, despite it being the opposite.
Taylor and May again appeared on the American Idol (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/American_Idol) Season 8 finale in May 2009, performing "We Are the Champions" with finalists Adam Lambert and Kris Allen.
Al Murray's Happy Hour (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Al_Murray%27s_Happy_Hour) has a Queen theme, as it uses "Don't Stop Me Now (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Don%27t_Stop_Me_Now)" for the introduction and features guest performers along with host Al Murray (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Al_Murray) singing different Queen songs each episode. The remainder of Queen did appear at the end of a series of the show.
"I Was Born to Love You (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/I_Was_Born_to_Love_You_(song))" was used as the theme song (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Theme_song) of the Japanese drama (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Japanese_television_drama) Pride (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Pride_(TV_series)) on Fuji Television (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Fuji_Television) in 2004, starring Takuya Kimura (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Takuya_Kimura) and Yūko Takeuchi (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Y%C5%ABko_Takeuchi). The show's soundtrack also contained other songs by Queen, including "We Will Rock You (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/We_Will_Rock_You), "We Are the Champions (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/We_Are_the_Champions)" and "Bohemian Rhapsody (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/Bohemian_Rhapsody)".
The band made tentative plans to provide material for use in "The Hotel New Hampshire (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/The_Hotel_New_Hampshire_(film))" but this project was abandoned. However, "Keep Passing The Open Windows" (which is an important catch-phrase line in the movie) did survive. The Simpsons has also made storylines in which they use Queen songs such as 'You're My Best friend'.
On 15 November 2009 Brian May and Roger Taylor appeared on the singing contest television show "X Factor (http://www.movieforums.com/wiki/The_X_Factor_(UK))".[55] (http://www.movieforums.com/community/#cite_note-xfactoruk-54)

I had a tough time with this theme. I'm not really a fan of Queen and I've never seen Flash Gordon.
I've settled on this for now:
http://cache.gizmodo.com/assets/resources/2007/11/Freddie_Doll.jpg
It's a plastic figure of Freddie made by Necca toys. It's one of several they've done of various music icons and since I have a small collection of movie figures, as well as a Kurt Cobain figure from this series, I figured this would do.
I wanted to stick with my ghost avatar but maybe later
so to keep in the spirit:

Wasn't a problem with me, 7th, I still got to use a sexy woman for my avatar. Not only that, but one of my earliest crushes. ;)
n3wt's still having to log-on at his mother-in-law's, but I'd still expect him in the next day or two.

It was fun using the Classic Queen cover, 7thson. It was the first thing I thought of when I saw your theme.
I'm switching to temp avatar, though, till n3wt shows up.

Everyone seems to have chosen superb pics.
There were loads of cool choices, but I decided to go with Katherine Ross in the original Stepford Wives. It's just wrong and creepy. Simple, yet so effective.

Oops, I'm next. My first two ideas were "sort of" taken, but I have a new idea that I think everyone will enjoy.
EDIT*
At first, I was going to go with "Gunslingers", but then Westerns was used, so I felt like that would be too close to that choice. I know there are more, but still. That's what Westerns are all about. Anyway, then I was going to go with "Your Top Ten". Then your number one movie was named, so again, I decided to bail on that choice.
My new idea is . . .

So, Who Are You? (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=14632&highlight=character)
Out of all the movies you've seen, what character/which characters reminds you of you the most.
For me, I use to have her biceps, but these days I'm a little weathered. I'll fix that in time. No matter what, though, I will always have the attitude. ;)

Must we choose a movie character or will a television character work?

01-30-10, 04:04 AM
Yep, that was voted on way back when this got going. TV is good to go.
My name, Jason, means healer and the only character that seemed to come to my mind at the moment is Peter Patrelli in Heroes. :p

Okay this was a tough one. I can't say I've ever really truly related to a movie character, but there were a couple of TV characters that came rather close:
Daria Morgendorffer
http://www.angelfire.com/music6/walteregan/MoFoPics/dariaface.jpg
Darlene Conner
http://www.litty-online.de/images/sara_5.jpg
Both of them have a biting, sarcastic wit and don't fit in well with their peers. This was something that I related to very much as a teenager (and, to a large degree, still do today) and both of these shows were on the air during that time of my life. Besides the sarcastic wit, there were other parallels: Daria's best friend was very much into art (as was my best friend) and Daria had a huge crush on a not-so-bright rocker guy (as did I). While Darlene shared a lot of my same ideals (animal rights/vegetarianism, as well as a rather open view regarding sex).
In the end, I decided to go with Daria, since I already used a Darlene avatar during the Whedon themed week.

Sadly, I am in real life, the 'character' that he portrays in his programmes and, yes, it's very tiring and depressing being that angry all the time.

Nah, hk, I've embraced my pessimism/bitchiness.
Though I think I let the stupidity of others get to me a little too much (mostly at my job, and from coworkers and clients alike). Okay, way too much.

There are quite a few I can think of, but for the time being I'll choose Dante and Randal from Clerks.
http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd254/soapboxpirate/Other/Dante_Hicks_and_Randal_Graves.gif
Honourable mentions (which may still get picked) include Harold from Harold and Maude and Otto from Repo Man, although I think the Clerks will probably stick around for the rest of the week. I don't really get around to changing much.

I'll probably change several times this week... but for now, I'm going with Ripley... not that I think I'm as cool as she is by any means... but I do think I would have made some of the same choices she did... particularly where Newt was concerned...
