Well Brazil was the first film that came to my mind when I saw the term 'Kafkaesque'.

Sam Lowry: Excuse me, Dawson, can you put me through to Mr. Helpmann's office?
Dawson: I'm afraid I can't sir. You have to go through the proper channels.
Sam Lowry: And you can't tell me what the proper channels are, because that's classified information?
Dawson: I'm glad to see the Ministry's continuing its tradition of recruiting the brightest and best, sir.
Sam Lowry: Thank you, Dawson.

The question is . . . Can he be as creative as he was the first time around? I liked the Charlie's Angels theme. It went over very well, too. If he's already had 2 themes, which I believe he has, then I can't recall what the other theme was.

Miss Vicky

Charlie's Angels was his second theme. The first one was Drew Barrymore.

Alright.

My pick for theme of the week is...

Movies You Hate

Expanding on my last choice, this time you pick a movie that, for whatever reason, you dislike with a passion. It could be a terrible piece of filmmaking, it could be something that offends you personally - anything like that. If you don't like it, pick it.

Iroquois
07-09-10, 11:18 PM
Anyway, my current choice is Knocked Up. One of the biggest comedic black holes to never feature Will Ferrell.

Yep, whoever is up, they post their theme choice on their Saturday/Sunday.
Funny enough, I just had this same theme idea a very few hours ago.

I'll pick something very soon. I'm watching a movie with my son right now. I like showing my children all my favorite movies and TV shows from the 80's and such.

Miss Vicky
07-09-10, 11:28 PM
Nice theme.

My choice may seem a bit obvious, but I have suffered through two of the three movies and will never understand their popularity.

In Praise of Love (Jean-Luc Godard, 2001)

Of all the godawful, pretentious and completely behind-the-times films which Godard has made, this is the most-godawful. At least I tried to post something visual from the trippy section.

Iro, this is a horrible, horrible theme. :D

TBH, I've cheated slightly, just because I couldn't bring myself to look at the smug racist all week (I really do hate him), but this is my most hated film so, in the spirit of the game, I went ahead and picked an avatar from it. From Drew to this, the world's an imperfect place.

You must have missed the part where quite a few people would lay out of mine and other's themes. I finally became so tired of trying to pretend there were rules to follow, that I told everyone there weren't any rules. Not anymore. I held true to each and every theme, no matter what it was, but I became very tired of trying to get everyone else to. Now that there aren't any rules, I sure don't want my lacking in the game to be pointed out.

p.s. I don't have the DVD. Understandable so. However, if you can find a picture of Harry that is actually from the movie, then fine . . . I'll use that.

I "wanted" to use A Return to Salem's Lot. I rented that about 20 years ago . . . the days of VHS . . . and it was the movie that made me decide to never rent movies again. That it wasn't worth the money. That's hate. There's a big difference from hate and repulsed by. I can't stomach Bug. I thought it was completely different than what it was. That movie is f@cked up.

Anyway, I can only find one picture that I know is A Return to Salem's Lot. It sure is pink.

One case where you wish, actually, they hadn't bothered with an end. Equally appropriate tagline could have been: Every good film franchise is inevitably ruined by the bloated second sequel.

This is a fine theme as it allows me to express a few different sub-categories of movies that i hate.

1. shatty inferior drek that capitalises on the name recognition of the title , and dares call itself a sequel, as if they are remotely related.
example used: Slapshot 2

2. Big name talent in a film that could have just as easily starred Wings Hauser and Marc Singer (or any other number of B-movie grade thespians), and gone straight to video.

example: Righteous Kill

3.Movies based on popular novels that stray greatly from the source for no apparent reason.

Now, I understand literature and film are two completely different mediums, and as such there is bound to be discrepancies between the two. I also begrudgingly accept the reality of financing 1st novel adaptations, so I understood that Morgan Freeman as the lead in Kiss The Girls was an OK choice, as the movie worked as a stand alone entity.

However, when it came to adapting Along Came a Spider, which in the novels by James Patterson provided a wonderful foil for our hero Alex Cross....to
Kill off Gary Sonji in the climax, thus eliminating a good number of worthy sequel novels..well i just hate it. hate i say. HATE IT. especially with the tag line "the game is far from over"

At least you weren't neg repped for hating the movie you chose. Especially by someone who doesn't even play this game, or join in with the discussion. I believe he should still have to explain himself. Shouldn't he, rauldc14?

Nope, no neg rep for picking Twilight.

Actually the only neg rep I've ever received was for saying something along the lines of "Tom Cruise isn't that great of an actor." LOL.

Loony Actors would work. Child Stars (if you use the term "star" loosely) would work. Back to School might work depending on how you define it. Movies About Fire would work.

Favorite Blondes does not. Neither does Bald Headed Characters.

Hi Guys sorry im a tad late getting online been mega busy this morning, but here is my choice for this weeks theme... Drum Roll Please...

Films that have made you cry with laughter,

So thinking back through the vast amount of comedy films I have seen there are so many that have made laugh so hard I have had tears running down my face. Maybe its not just the film it could just be one charactor from a film/films. Any way I hope you all enjoy the theme and im looking forward to seeing some great avatar choices :yup::up:

EDIT: If you havent seen a film that has brought you to tears, you could choose a film that you thought was hilarious.

Here is my first choice

Naked Gun

OK, it's my week. I had a few ideas for a theme but, as I know it's going to please, at least, a couple of you, I'm going with...

CHILD STARS

As they are now or as they were then, it doesn't matter so long as they were famous before the age of 16.

I know what you're thinking. Who the hell is HK going to pick? Well, it may come as some surprise to you that I'm going for...

I'll change though and go with Natalie Portman instead...

I figured HK would prefer I picked them over Shortie from Temple of Doom. Loved their movies when I was a kid.

Child stars, and make sure that they became a star before the age of 16. I think I have that right.

He's probably confused over how you guys decide who goes, and in what order, and what the criteria are for choosing themes, like I am.

EDIT: That's what I thought

Miss Vicky
07-27-10, 12:59 AM
The order is determined more or less by post count. If you are participating, Destiny will add you to the list. The more you post, the higher up on the list you will go and the sooner you will get to choose your theme.

When it is your turn, you can decide on a theme. Any theme that is broad enough for everyone to participate is acceptable, though it is asked that you not use any theme that has already been chosen.

This week's theme (Child Stars) was chosen by honeykid.

Courtroom Movies

Judges, juries, lawyers, defendants, victims, etc . . . Anything legal, minus police officers and private investigators. We've already used those two.

I want to use at least 5 movies this week, but I doubt I'll have the time. I'll start with . . .

Reversal of Fortune (1990)

If this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Trial_(1962_film)) reads accurately, and they did have a bit scene in a courtroom, then yes, I'll let it count. I won't be too picky about how much time is actually spent in a courtroom. My movie is a perfect example of that.
