My hello

Hey. I just joined and wanted to say hello. I've been looking for a movie community forum and thought I'd join here.

I'm Chris. I'm an English teacher who got a job teaching Media Literacy and in between teaching my kids about different forms of media -- advertising, journalism, and video production -- I often throw in a little movie instruction since that's my first love. Right now, the kids are watching City Lights (my avatar.)

I though it would be fun to join this weekend since I've been watching the Oscars for a looooong time now (don't ask) and wanted to chat a bit.

Hi there and welcome to MoFo. City Lights is a favorite of mine...

Hi Chris. That's my name too, actually, so expect any number of zany shenanigans and playful misunderstandings to take place. Or not.

Anyway, welcome to Movie Forums. Your timing couldn't be much better; we're having an official Oscar Chat on Sunday. Feel free to stop by!

I just saw City Lights a few weeks ago myself, and adored it. Of course, a couple weeks after that, I saw The General, so the internal Chaplin-vs-Keaton debate is percolating in my head at the moment.

Hope to see you around the boards.

Thanks for the welcome. I gather the chat takes place in the Shoutbox? Is that right?

Chris, nice name! As to the Keaton-Chaplin debate, since I'm the sentimental type and love to cry, I'm in the Chaplin camp. Keaton only makes me laugh.

Aye, it is a lovely name, isn't it? I find I have to go by Chris, though, as "Christopher" sounds a little pretentious.

The chat will actually take place in a brand new, as-of-yet unrevealed real-time chat room. I'll be posting the link to it on Sunday, a bit before the telecast. We'd love to have you there, naturally. It figures to be a crash-course for anyone who wants to meet a few of MoFo's usual suspects.

Mark, the best "kid" of all was my 12 year old son. He loves the Tramp.

It's really neat to see kids of the 21st century enjoying Chaplin's work. I love hearing them in class giggling. Nice to know some things are timeless.

Welcome tramp! Hope you have the time of your onlife!
