Hi, I'm new here!

Tools

I noticed this "Birthdays and Introductions" forum so I decided to introduce myself to you.. So I'm a 19 years old movie lover from the Southern Finland. I usually watch movies with my girlfriend but some of them are just too much for her (Saw, Hostel, Paranormal Activity etc.) so I "have to" watch them alone. My current favorite movies are Inception and The Shutter Island (seems like I'm a fan of Leonardo DiCaprio...) and I'm really waiting for Tron Legacy and the next Pirates Of The Caribbean movie.

That's everything I want to share with you now.. I don't want to bore you by listing my other hobbies etc

See ya,
EffectLover

You're Finnish? Cool. You're the third Fin I've met on the internet who likes films. The other two are way more pretentious though. I think.

As a Fin, do you agree with your fellow Fin's opinion that Letters to Father Jaakob is the greatest Finnish film ever made?

Oh, and welcome to the site.

Welcome, love

Most of the movies you've mentioned are modern ones. Do you dabble in earlier years much?

Thank you all!

@planet news
I have to say that I don't agree to those other Fin's. In my opinion the greatest finnish movie is The Unknown Soldier (it's from 1955 and covers the Continuation War between Finland and the Soviet Union. Very touchy!).

@genesis_pig
Well I'm studying Information Technology in a University of Applied Scienses and I'm mostly interested in video and audio stuff. I always watch the FX Breakdowns of the newest CGI movies like Avatar. In future I hope that I'm going to work professionally with movies!

@The Dame
Do you mean if I watch older movies too? If so, the answer is yes! I love movies like Casablanca (my girlfriend hates it!), Ben Hur, Hitchcock's movies etc.

@christine I don't really know what finnish films I should recommend to English people.. There's just too much finnish in them so you might not like them. However there's a few finnish movies which are spoken in english. I recently watched Skeleton Crew (I heard it's loosely based on Stephen King's novel or something) which is a horror movie and it really sucks. Maybe you should watch The Home of Dark Butterflies.. It's rated 7/10 on IMDB

I heard about this recent film... I forget what it's called, but it's Finnish and it's about people capturing Santa Clause only Santa Clause is like a species of wild beast and murder people unless they are conditioned to sit in malls and stuff. I can't think of the title right now...

Do you know what I'm talking about?

Yeah you mean Rare Exports (A Christmas Tale)! I saw the trailer when I went to watch Inception and it might really be worth to watch! You really know a lot about movies (for me it's a big surprise if someone knows a finnish movie!)..

Thank you Classicqueen13

Are people in Finland like the ones I see in Aki Kaurismaki's films? Do people from Finland even like his films?

Oh, and welcome to the site.

Most younger people (under 25) don't really watch his movies and I haven't seen any of them because they make us look something we really are not. People in Finland are not depressed, poor, old-fashioned or uptight (at least not in the capital area in Southern Finland where I live!). There's no big difference between us and swedish people (you propably know swedish people better...).

And yeah thanks

So you are all depressed, old fashioned and uptight, then?

Welcome to the site, EF.
