Unfinished Business 3/5

Special note. This is the most penises I've ever seen in a film. It really blew the record away.
Check out the director's cut of Trier's Nymphomaniac. :P

Tommy (1975)

Ken Russell really is a mixed bag for me, going into this I knew it was going to be a bizarre and trippy experience, which it certainly was but I found it all too chaotic. It doesn't help that I'm not really a fan of The Who either, so the music didn't do much for me. Surely with a casting of Oliver Reed, Ann Margaret, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Tina Turner and Jack Nicholson, this could provide some excitement in this Rock Opera but no, the majority of these were pretty much wasted here.

By the title and your description, it sounds like a bunch of guys urinating..

And God Created Woman (1956)

Brigitte Bardot plays an orphan in a small town, and there's nothing hotter than that. She knows what she's got and she flaunts it. She makes all the men crazy and that's about it. It's her showcase.

The Lion in Winter

"What shall we hang, the holly or each other?"

And you thought your family Christmases were dysfunctional.

Had this on my watchlist since it appeared on the 1960s Countdown and I can see why it made the top 100. I probably would have it on my top 25 of the decade if I made it again now. Really good, brilliantly acerbic dialogue, I was riveted. (Although I couldn't quite watch some of Peter O'Toole's scenes without thinking of Brian Blessed in The Black Adder...)

The Babadook (2014)

When his widowed mother's emotional unavailability manifests itself as a gothic boogeyman, Kevin McCallister must defend the roost with his wacky booby traps. Paying homage to films like Repulsion and books such as Grimm's Fairy Tales along the way, Jennifer Kent stitches together a powerful tapestry threaded by tense sound design, chilling melancholia, and zero conformity to the modern conception of the horror genre.

I'd give her a HA! and a HI-YA! Then I'd kick her.

Isn't "Kevin McCallister must defend the roost with his wacky booby traps" the description of the movie Home Alone?

Yes. Also see, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Skyfall.

I don't like horror movies, so I'll probably never see The Babadook or Nightmare on Elm Street. I might eventually see Skyfall, but I don't really like Daniel Craig as James Bond.

Departures (2008)

This is an absolutely beautiful movie. It's great to look at, the characters are memorable and you get drawn into their world. It is both sensitive and humorous and the music is gorgeous. I really recommend it.

Aparajito - I have been distracted by the shooting, very hard to focus on the screen, very hard to concentrate... Don't think it was as good as the first one. I also have to avoid the introductions - constant spoilers...

Notes On A Scandal (2006) - Richard Eyre

A very touchy and delicate film that could also suddenly turn out to be gross and dull...Love such films that make it so much difficult to take a stand...great script and acting.

8.5 out of 10
Loved Notes on a Scandal...Judi Dench was brilliant...there's a review of it on my review thread.

I respect your opinion and keeping an open enough mind about Ken Russell to watch this movie, but I LOVE Tommy.

Finished here. It's been fun.

The Shoot Horses, Don't They?
-

We work hard every single day, in hopes of one day making something of ourselves. We get little sleep and though tired we continue to work. We lean on a significant other for support, but even they aren't enough to make us happy. Time goes by and there we are: still dancing that same old dance. The dance goes on forever, until the day we pass away.

Finished here. It's been fun.

All About Eve

"woah that was such a clever line" (x100)

"damn the writing in this film is so good" (x100)

basically my experience with All About Eve.
