Deliverance (1972)

It's been years since I saw this and am I happy I did. I was tense the whole way through even though I knew a lot of what was involved in the trip. So much better than I remembered.
8.5/10 I won't be leaving it that long before I see it again.

The Mission, 1986

Everything is perfect with this film. De Niro, Jeremy Irons, the landscape shots, ughh and the score by Ennio Morricone is beyond divine.

Welcome to the human race...
Speaking of documentaries that feature Herzog...

Incident at Loch Ness -

*insert joke about how Zak Penn's behaviour in this movie is still not as reprehensible as some of the movies he's written screenplays for*

Trying Real Hard To Be The Shepherd
Didn't you just want to punch him, though?
I know what you mean but I had a lot of sympathy for the guy. He seemed like such a tortured soul. I wish he could have found out more about the woman that was willing to be out there with him. Yeah, there were times I wanted to punch him.

THE LONGEST YARD (1974)

Guards vs the inmates. Classic prison film, also at the top of my sports films next to Rollerball (1975). Two movies that get sports right, hard-hitting & rough around the edges. Burt Reynolds, washed up pro quarterback, goes to prison for stealing his girlfriends car, resisting arrest, & generally being an azzhole. Burt rejects an offer to coach the prison guard semi-pro team, instead talking the warden into an exhibition game of prison inmates vs the guards

One of the weird times where someone outperforms De Niro in the same film (Irons).

Yeah but a great film, the ending is unbelievable.

Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (1974)

Finally got to see this cult classic. I found the beginning a little slow and uninteresting but man it sure does pick up the last hour or so. It was pretty much non-stop thrills and suspense all driven by a very unique plot. The second half made me appreciate the first half more after it was over. Great movie, just another reason why Sam Peckinpah is one of my favorite directors.

The Hawks and the Sparrows, Pier Paolo Pasolini, 1966.
Pasolini takes on an endless and aimless walk through many different aspects of italian society of that time. I really enjoyed up to after the part set in the 13th century. Especially the very beginning, with Toto' and Ninetto just walking and walking and walking talking of important things like life and death, is absolutely brilliant. After that I found its episodic structure to be a little annoying.
As usual, I can't decide if I like when directors use "real" people from the street to act in their movies. I understand the natural and spontaneous feeling they give to the movie, but it's not really for me.
The opening credits are definitely worth mentioning too.
6.5/10

Shaun the Sheep: 8/10. Very good.

Woody Allen is a pedophille
Just got back from the Indiana Jones Triple Feature, here is how I rate each film

Raiders of the Lost Ark - One of my favorites of all time, a classic
+
Temple of Doom - Defiantly the worst of the trilogy, but still fun. The first 20 or so minutes are pretty bad, but once you get to the temple it's awesome
-
The Last Crusade - This one was definitely the funniest, and the action was OK, but I didn't feel like it did enough to surpass the original

Trying Real Hard To Be The Shepherd

Just about as great as I expected. The writing and the acting are top notch. The movie also looks fantastic with amazing camera work. The panning shots are spectacular. The only exception are the two or three car scenes, but I have to forgive them in older movies because everyone was doing it. Incredible how the story makes us think about the way we judge people. Very thought provoking and profound film. Probably already my second favorite movie surrounding the Holocaust.

A Patch of Blue - 8/10
What a wonderful movie. This wasn't a factory-made film on race. After all, the girl was blind. She endured so much abused, and my quest in life is to witness justice. Very emotional, sad, but it's what I like. I want to feel. I also love to love certain characters vicariously. I didn't want this film to finish...
