Re: The 27th General Hall of Fame
I guess I'll end my hiatus. Here's hoping I don't regret it.
Nomination sent. |
First one of these for me. Not participating, but will hang out and see how this works. So I'll be ready for the 28th event.

Re: The 27th General Hall of Fame
I'm in!

Re: The 27th General Hall of Fame
I'll make my decision once the doors open.

Re: The 27th General Hall of Fame
I am not 100% in and I will be waiting this time. If the noms look ok and sincerely look like enjoyable films I'll join. Too much nom bombing lately I have to admit.
Hopefully people can see where I'm coming from. If not you can watch a guy who's been in 24/26 generals not join anymore. Pretty proud of what was created with this and hopefully I can keep participating. |

Have you considered creating a private Hall of Fame that only has people who choose films that you know you will like? That way, you won't ever be disappointed.

That's not what I meant and maybe I should reclarify. I'll summarize by saying is Themroc and Daisies Hall of Fame candidate worthy?

Re: The 27th General Hall of Fame
Couldn't tell that by her reviews. Hell one was an atrocious blind watch.
If people want me on the sidelines for these to watch movies like that then I guess it is what it is. No hard feelings. |

Re: The 27th General Hall of Fame
And now she's nominating a "BS" Superhero movie. And yes those are her words too.

They aren’t exactly trashy films. Daisies is even recognized as amongst Czechoslovakia’s top films. Your stance here screams of “select films I want or I won’t join.” That, to me, goes against the spirit of these. |
The main thing I've enjoyed about these tournaments is seeing movies I haven't seen before. Like, I know people want to win, but I've seen Vertigo and The Deer Hunter and No Country for Old Men and I know why they're great and why people think they're great.
I think that probably about half of my legitimately favorite movies would maybe be seen as trolling. But I, for example, genuinely think that Brain Damage is a great film and I watch it a lot and I think about it a lot and it evokes very strong emotions in me. The main thing holding me back from nominating it is that it would make me sad to watch 10 of my forum-peers totally trash it, LOL. Anyway, I will be in as long as none of the nominated films cross my personal no-go boundaries. |
Re: The 27th General Hall of Fame
I'll copy something I wrote in the 26th HoF as this is the same controversy which popped up last time:
We all know that Themroc was really love-it-or-hate-it among us (well, maybe not "love-it" lmao), but Daisies, by comparison, is generally considered to be a much better film. A number of critical essays have been written about it, Criterion included it in one of their Eclipse series on the Czech New Wave, and Sight & Sound listed it as one of the best films of all time in 2012. To my understanding, while ueno_station wanted to pick another weird film for this Hall of Fame, she went with something that has more of a classic status. As an aside, here's the Criterion essay for this film, if you're curious (scroll down a bit on the page to get to the essay for Daisies). |
