Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice

Okay I got to say this. I like Ben Affleck. I like him both as a director and as an actor; hell I did not mind him as Daredevil. But I have to admit that I think this was a bad call. Ben was at his best when he worked with Kevin Smith on the likes of Chasing Amy and such. I just don't think he has what it takes to play Batman.

It could be much worse. The only reason that I'm nervous is because I didn't know that much about the other actors who have played Batman before I saw them as Batman, so it was completely believable that they were Batman. I've seen Ben Affleck in quite a few roles now, and I don't know if I would ever be able to completely see him as Bruce Wayne. Still, he somewhat does look the part, and I like him.

I'm not old, you're just 12.
I'm willing to give him a shot, cause I loved his work in Argo and The Town. He's come in to his own lately. I certainly like him better than any of the "pretty boy" actors that had been rumored. Ben Affleck is a good looking guy sure, but not in a "pretty" way, and I think he could possibly do a good Batman as long as he commits to the role. He wasn't even that bad in Daredevil, that movie was entirely the fault of it's hacky director.

I'm giving Batfleck a chance.

If he manages to put a little more boldness in his acting, then I'm also willing to give him a chance. It's a shame his first picture is also with Superman, though. I don't see much good coming out of that, to be honest.

but now you have my attention
This movie is doomed from the start, I've heard Ben (1 film out of every 20 is good) Affleck is going to play Batman, although he has the perfect good jaw for Batman, I can't take him seriously as a superhero especially taking over from Christian Bale. It's seems like George Clooney all over again.

Young Skywalker. Missed you, I have...
Ben Freaking Affleck. Son of a. Why? Why would you do that? He already tried to play a super hero once and screwed that up. Royally. The only role that I have ever seen him in that I actually liked was the one in Argo. Great now I'm thinking about it. You might as well bring a return of the nipples on the Bat suit while you are at it. What a bunch of crap.

I think we're all being a bit quick to judge. I mean, the only time we can is when we actually see him in action. I mean recently he has upped his game; he's proved he has the acting chops now.

Yeah, agreed (and with byrom94). I wouldn't have chosen Affleck, and I'm not terribly optimistic, but I don't think it should shock anyone if this ends up being a good choice in the end. Especially if they're going for a different incarnation of the character. Affleck would be a horrendous choice for some Nolan-Bale style Caped Crusader, but for a wittier, more sardonic version, he might be just fine.

People hate a lot of casting choices that end up being awesome, and then nobody remembers the initial uproar. Even Heath Joker's Ledger met with some initial resistance. But once they knock it out of the park people forget that there was any turmoil over the choice.

Yeah, I guess...

This time round he can convert two Lesbians at the same time instead of just one.

What a guy.

In the Beginning...
Yeah, I think the comic book crowd doesn't realize that Ben Affleck is a far cry from his Bennifer Aff-Lo days. He's a pretty fantastic director and, while he'll never be a great actor, I thought he was pretty good in The Town and Argo. I personally wouldn't have cast Affleck, but like Yoda said, he might end up being a great choice for the direction of the role.

And seriously, am I the only one who's ready for a change? Christian Bale was a bit better in The Dark Knight Rises (which I watched on the plane to Paris), but overall he was still a pretty awful Batman.

Miss Vicky's Loyal and Willing Slave
I'm not hugely invested in the film so I don't have strong feelings one way or another but I will say that I admire Affleck for making a bit of a gutsy move in accepting the role. After being such a derided individual for so long he has only just built up a degree of respect and goodwill in the film community with The Town and Argo. And now he is putting it all on the line. If the film bombs much of the blame will be thrown his way, and comic book fans are certainly not people you want to p*ss off; we hold a grudge!

I was asking my wife to guess who the new Batman was, and at some point she suggested (half-jokingly, I think) Casey Affleck.

Now that I'd like to see. It'd be awesome to see him mumble timidly about how he prowls Gotham in the night.

There's been a massive backlash from fans across the globe.

It's been reported that Batman fans and comic book fans all over the world have hammered the decision.

Apparently there's been Twitter posts saying Postman Pat, Butt-Head and even Michael Jackson would be better in the role.

There's been thousands of responses that "Affleck will kill this movie" and that "The Superman and Batman franchises are going to be f**ked beyond repair"

Some Twitter responses:

"Ben Affleck officially cast as Batman in the Man of Steel sequel. For the first time in history, I kind of want Superman to win."

"Ben Affleck as Batman? You know who'd have been a better choice? Alan Rickman."

"Ben Affleck already butchered the Daredevil movie and now he's been cast as Batman??? Some men just want to watch the world burn."

"Ben Affleck as Batman is another disaster waiting to happen! (again) Who's idea was this? Joel Schumacher's?"

"Ben Affleck as Batman is the worst thing to happen to the franchise"

"Ben Affleck as Batman. Day ruined.ise since George Clooney's bat nipples...#WTF"

"Ben Affleck as Batman? I didn't know who I wanted, but I know it wasn't him. Meryl Streep, maybe?"

"Ben Affleck as Batman is really just another Ben Affleck movie I won't be watching."

Also, within barely hours of the news, comic book fans have actually put together an official petition and sent it into WB for Affleck to be removed from the role.
