Oh it was
HORRIBLE!!!!
OK. ok. let me take a chill pill. First things first. I did enjoy the premise of the movie and the dark, vampy atmosphere. I wish this were given to better filmmakers.
It was like
Cloverfield on drugs. Now - if youre a person who hated Cloverfield because it jiggled around like a handheld camera, let me tell you that this movie (in terms of handheld filming quality) makes Cloverfield look like a visionary masterpiece......that was filmed on a tripod!
I am not kidding. As a person who felt zero motion sickness/disorientation during Cloverfield, and who has taken and edited hours upon hours of my own home videos - with and without a tripod - I can comfortably say that
Quarantine was an insult to the viewing populace.
It is almost as if they went for a
Blair Witch esque on blur and in color feel, and I dont really "do" fake horror documentary.
What's even SADDER is that the entire time I was squinting at the screen thinking
Hold up the camera, dude! What's going on in there??. It was ridiculous. Even
I know about night vision. How is it that we are supposed to believe that a professional cameraman doesnt know about night vision?? or that he is simply so dumb that he doesnt think of it until....well, until everyone is dead, basically.
I mean give me a break. MY personal handycam has a better night lens filter than my naked eye, and even my naked eye adjusts to darkness. I know that they are able to simulate darkness on movies while still enabling viewers to see virtually everything. I resent squinting at ONE CORNER of the screen with the pinprick of light.
FURTHERMORE. I completely respect the idea that people get scared when they are presented with a horror they cannot understand. I even understand screaming. .... .... .... .... Ok maybe not. But what I dont get is why these idiots would not SHUT UP. Anyone who has ever played a zombie game, watched a zombie movie, or even remotely understands zombie lore UNDERSTANDS that if they cannot HEAR you they cannot FIND YOU. I do not get why they did not just find a defensible hole, and camp out until things quieted down.
To make it even worse, this chick screams the whole movie. The sheer number of people who died as a result of her fear was....intolerable.
I would have put her down on general principle simply in order to save more lives.

I guess what I mean to say is that I feel that the whole claustrophobic / government-left-us-to-rot / we-have-to-escape storyline is a good one, but this one - with its poor filming, bad lines and incongruous decision-making - felt more like an abortive attempt.
