Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (2025)

I loved Dead Reckoning and hope Final Reckoning doesn't disappoint.

Ooo I'm glad Pom Pom is back.

Besides all of the gazillions of dollars it made, Mission: Impossible will leave its mark as maybe the only film series ever made that actually got better and better as it went on.

I feel like it's gotten steadily worse in the last 2 installments... now it's all about the ego of a Hollywood star who just wants to show off, doing his own stunts. Boring.

Fallout was easily one of the best of the series and for me, Rogue Nation and Fallout represent some of the best of what the action genre has to offer. Cruise is a defender of old school cinema and a fantastic guy to his castmates and every member of the crew. A true legend of the industry and I love the MI films. Hat off to McQ, as well.

Fallout was a tough film to top, so i agree there was a bit of a dip in quality in the last one, but I still had a blast seeing it in theaters and it held up well on a re-watch. Looking forward to this final installment!

I found the last couple to be just as fun, and for the sixth and seventh films in a franchise they are very strong. When I think about the loud, dumb blurs that The Pirates of the Caribbean or The Transformers or The Fast and the Furious are, I would never, ever consciously revisit any of their later entries. But I could happily fire up Mission: Impossible Fallout, even if you may think it is weaker than peak I:M.

Well, hopefully it really will be the last...

What Holden said, yeah. They're still better than most blockbusters, and they really put the lie to people who make excuses for the bad ones because it's "just dumb fun" or "just action." The existence of these films shows that you can have action, have dumb fun, that isn't actually dumb or incoherent. And a big seconding to the thing about them being particular good for being so 'late' in the series. The fact that they keep hitting the same general level of quality after so many films is truly amazing.

But yeah, part of me is still sorta glad it's ending, whatever that ends up meaning. It's about time, I guess. But I'm sad all the same. I assume someone else will pick up the mantle and, IDK, Tom Hardy'll replace him or something.

The biggest problem with the series is that it has become more or less unprofitable. The latest estimate is that the latest one would have to make at least $800 million or so, just to break even.

Yes, by all appearances, this would be the last movie, at least the last one with him in it.

While Cruise is great in this, what really drives the series is McQuarrie, at this point. If we kept coming back with a new lead or an entirely new cast, I expect it would be almost as good, and maybe better in a few ways if they could start over and tweak a few things in a way they can't as much right now.

That said, I expect they'll both step away after this, unfortunately.

If history is any indication, the studio will probably try to keep the series going, as long as they've got the rights for it. But yes, it would undoubtedly involve a major reboot and getting a new "crew" for the project.
