Who Done It? (1942)

One of the best Abbott and Costello movies, where they work at a soda shop but aspire to be mystery writers for a local radio show. They kind of get their wish when the head boss at the station gets murdered right in front of everybody but nobody knows who the killer is. Lots of fun A&C gags, even the boys making fun of themselves when they turn on a radio and hear their own "Who's on First" routine and shut the radio off, saying that they're tired of "those guys." Typical murder mystery made very good by a game cast.

San Andreas (2015)

Smashing (literally) action movie where the biggest earthquake ever to hit Los Angeles takes out most of the city and threatens the lives of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's family. Paul Giamatti is in support as the seismologist nobody believes (a requirement in every disaster movie) but who is proven right pretty much right away. Johnson's estranged wife is played by the beautiful Carla Gugino and his daughter is played by the smoking hot Alexandra Daddario, who proves she's a decent actress here (but still oh-so-delicious!). The action and tension is almost non-stop and entertains throughout. It never claims to be more that what it is and it succeeds greatly.

Joe Kidd (1972)

Swell Western with Clint Eastwood as a tracker hired to help Robert Duvall and his men trace outlaw John Saxon through desert mountain passes. Eastwood begins the movie in jail, having tied one on in the local saloon. He sobers up quickly enough to lead the men into the mountains. Each of Duvall's men has a talent or trick to help them: James Wainwright is a specialist with a high powered rifle; Don Stroud carries a new-fangled automatic pistol etc. etc. Clint is not impressed by these guys, naturally. It turns out to be no surprise that
WARNING: spoilers below
Duvall and men are mercenaries who intend to kill Saxon instead of bringing him to jail.
Clint doesn't like that sort of thing, so he goes into action and that's half the fun of the movie, watching him defeat the baddies in different ways. Filmed in California and Arizona, the scenery is beautiful. The action is fine, with bits of humor thrown in here and there to lighten the mood. Good stuff.

Au revoir les enfants (Goodbye Children)(1987)
Wow!Now that's the way to tell a war story. Amazing film, intelligently and skillyfully done. I'm impressed....and I'll post my thoughts on it in the WWII Hof tomorrow.

Crazy, Stupid, Love. (2011) - Glenn Ficarra, John Requa

- This movie is cool and it's by far better than average Rom-Com that we all know... it has some funny moments and some boring ones but one scene in particular is just completely hilrarious (the best in the movie by far). I like the atmosphere and the aspect of the movie. It was a cool ride and I appreciate it.

La Strada

What an awful movie. With a main character who's only asset is that she is a female, completely and utterly useless otherwise. Not only that but she is unrelatable and doesn't even seem like a real person. And like a nun becoming attached to a convent, we've got the other main character who only likes her because she is familiar.

We've also got a broke family that can't afford to feed children but somehow lives in a beach house with an ocean view and no neighbors. If that is poverty then sign me up.

Boring, boring, boring. What a terrible movie.

I do not regret turning off 8 1/2 a few minutes into viewing if this is what a fellini film is like.
La strada belongs in the thread of shame.

Pretty consistent with your kneejerk reactions before , did you actually watch the full movie?
I would estimate that there are less than 20 movies in my life I've started but not finished.

10 Cloverfield Lane

A tight and suspenseful film with a stellar performance from Goodman. Is it a better or worse film with or without the "Cloverfield" title? I'll write a bit more about that later, but I really enjoyed it.

Pickpocket (1959)

I quite liked this, but I need to watch it again more intently to be sure how I feel. I thought the main character was rather fascinating. It's only 75 minutes long so it's easy to watch.

On my umpteenth re-watch I still give this a 5/5 as it's continuously been one of my favourites since I first laid eyes on it 17 years ago. Awesome art style, wonderful setting, and a plot that's so familiar but at the same time unique to this vision.

cartoon boobies and butt.....I approve.

Boldly going.
The good dinosaur 7/10

Excellent art. Some laugh-out-loud moments. Some touching moments too. Don't look for historical accuracy here, however: they've got dinosaurs romping around with early humans and bison. The pteradactyls act like t-rexes, when they probably would've been more like fishers. Somehow the river flows towards the mountains.

I love it. She hated it.
I've seen it once, and it's absolutely brilliant, but it's not exactly a film I'd fancy revisiting too often. It has some truly masterful scenes in it, though. For example, the scene where Henry's visited by the woman next door - wow, that is cinematic genius right there.

A Face in the Crowd (1957)

A boozy, down and out jailbird, is picked up by a radio reporter for his talent of guitar and singing. He is then thrust into the spotlight and becomes a huge hit with the public and achieves massive commercial success with every pitch he makes. However he soon bites off more than he can chew and the pressure of his popularity comes back with a vengeance.

An excellent cast of Andy Griffith (who is extraordinary) in his film debut, Patricia Neal and Walter Mathau.

Highly recommended!!!
